YOUTH PROGRAMS, Page 13

JUNIOR ARROW / ROOKIE LEAGUE BASKETBALL

This is a fast-break basketball program for boys and girls in the 3rd - 6th grades.  This program is sponsored by the Watertown Park & Rec Department, Boys & Girls Club, and WASK (Watertown Athletic Services for Kids).

The focus of this program is to create a more comprehensive, high-speed, competitive based basketball program through league play, practices and clinics.  This program is endorsed and co-created by the Watertown Arrow varsity coaches to create a consistent program for Watertown basketball and future players.  Participants will participate in both structured games and practices.  The program meets either on Mondays or Tuesdays.  Within each night, teams will receive a 20 minute practice and a 40 minute game.  Participants sign up as individuals and go through three weeks of practice and drills sessions.  Teams will be formed through team selections held by volunteer coaches (done to create parity within teams).  Following assembly of teams, one week will be given for teams to practice together.  We will then have two sessions of games and scheduled practices.

We are still holding our traditional Saturday program, as well.  We encourage parents to look at which program best fits your child’s skills and desires.  The Saturday program will truly focus on building skills and developing fundamentals.  The Junior Arrow / Rookie League is designed to place more time and emphasis on team play and strategies.  Players may play in both leagues.  If you are unable to attend Saturdays due to traveling basketball, consider not signing up for the Saturday program, as it affects the team you are placed on.

All players signing up the Junior Arrow / Rookie League will receive a game shirt to keep.
