TO ALL ROWERS BUT ESPECIALLY THE VARSITY.....GET YOUR DARN REGISTRATION PAPERS IN!!!!!   YOU MAY THINK YOU ROW FOR THIS CLUB. BUT YOU DON'T, UNLESS THE PAPERWORK IS IN.......NO JOKE.

CONDITIONING: i HOPE YOU HAVE BEEN DOING SOMETHING. IF NOT, NOW IS THE TIME TO START, ON YOUR OWN TIME OF COURSE. WE ARE STARTING A BIT LATER SO EXPECT TO HIT THE GROUND RUNNING WHEN PRACTICES START.

To WCC rowers. I am aware that there has been lots of discussion about pre-season training, including a meeting which I allowed to be held in my room at John Jay. Let me clarify again.

Whatever conditioning you do between now and February on your own or with a buddy or two is fine. In fact I encourage it highly. I did not intend for there to be a big organized effort and certainly nothing that would occur on school grounds. We have neither the supervision or insurance to cover that. SO PLEASE, NO PRE-SEASON TRAINING ON SCHOOL GROUNDS. What you do at home, in your basement, at the park, in your neighborhood is your business. Ho to see you in February ready to take it to the next level.

To the novices......a very good Fall "learn-to-row" program this year. You all did a great job and are positioned well to start again in the Spring (actually mid-Feb for conditioning). Looks like at least two 8s of boys and an 8 and 4 of girls. We certainly hope you all come back in the Spring.....WHEN THE REAL FUN BEGINS!!!!
REMEMBER.........FAST IS FUN!!

Meanwhile, try to stay in shape and don't forget what you learned!

Hi, coach here. A clarification on yesterday. I think our goal should be to develop as strong an aerobic base as possible so that when we get going in Feb. we are starting from a higher level of condition than in past years. That would put us in a position to gain that last bit to be the very best we can be. Work in small groups, do some lifting on your own time(especially legs and, ladies, upper body strength is often a weakness in women's crew.) Take the long view and work on it.. Just don't hurt yourselves!!!. All the best....

To all varsity rowers. You can thank Troy & Troy for my great sceen name. I got to thinking as I have been watching the novices. You guys have come a long, long way...from nothing to major contenders on the local and state scene. How well do you want to do this year? How fast do you want to go? If you don't want to get edged out by a second or two in the big races, NOW IS THE TIME TO THINK AND ACT. Clearly we are not having any formal practices. Many of you are now rowing or active physically in other ways. Being a fitness freak is almost a requirement to do well. For so many of you, this will be your last season with WCC. You have made it what it is today. Go out with a bang!!!!! THIS IS YOUR YEAR. Bilding cardiovascular condition takes time. You can't start too early. Run, row, swim,
XC ski, bike....whatever it takes to get your heart rate up and keep it there.
See you on the river.

WOOF
