Welcome to the home of the Wall High School Ice Hockey Team

Welcome to the Wall Varsity Ice Hockey website for the 2007-8 season!

The Knights have qualified for both the Shore Conference tournament and the State wide public "B" (schools with lower number of students) tournament. This public B tournament is new this year.

State Tournament game results

Last week the Knights defeated a surprising Passiac Valley team. The Knights dominated almost every aspect of the game except the one that matters most, the score. After a scoreless first period PV got a goal in the 2nd period to star the scoring. The Knights game back and scored tow goals to go up 2 to 1 late in the second period but with under 30 seconds left PV caught the defense napping and tied it at 2 all. The third period saw increasing intensity by both teams but no goals. On to Overtime! Wall played at a terrific pace and finally at 7 minutes in Junior forward Rob Calabro positioned himself in front of the PV net took numerous checks but was there to sweep in a loose puck and the Knights survived the preliminary round for the third straight year. This would have been an upset if Wall lost as they were seeded 12th in the State B ranks and Passaic ranked a much lower 21st.

Second round played tonite featured Wall going up against #5 seed Chatham a team that has place well in state tournaments for two decades. the Knights came out in period 1 with uncharateristic hustle and were rewarded when Jack Gabuzda scored the game's first goal. The second period featured the same pace by the Knights and this time a long shot by Chris Swan resulted in a deep rebound which Tim Margadonna picked up and scored with, Wall up 2 to 0. The third period featured the most physical checking and penalties of the game but the Knights clearly had faster skaters than Chatham and Kyle Middleton sweep a deep pass in front of the Chatham net which Rob Calabro scored with and put the game out of reach with about 5 minutes to go. Eric Stohrer had a season best game in goal stopping over 30 shots with acrobatic moves for his third shut out!! This game marks two firsts for the Knights, the first time the team has made it to the Quarter finals in the state tourny and the first time defeating a top 10 seed, Congratulations boys!!!

Now please come out and support the team this Sunday 3/9 at 4 PM at the Mennen Arena when the Knights take on Jefferson in a fight for a berth in the State semi finals!!!!
