Welcome to the Bishop McGuinness Villains Wrestling Homepage!2007-08 was the 5th year that the Bishop team has been in existence and it sure was an exciting one! The Villains finished in the top three at 5 of the 7 tournaments they competed in this year. Additionally, two of the varsity wrestlers, Patrick and Josh, captured third place finishes at this years State IndividualTournament. Great job Villains!

2008 Middle School Camp - Training Future Champions!
The Bishop wrestling team worked with young "future champions" in what was the first wrestling training camp held at Bishop McGuinness. Local middle school kids worked with Coach Sickelbaugh and the Varsity wrestlers to develop fundamental wrestling skills and experience the sport of wrestling.

State Tournament Results
John showed the same drive and determination that he showed getting here. This was his first time at the State tournament, quite an accomplishment for a two year wrestler. John lost his first two matches by only a few points.
Patrick had one loss in the tournament, his only loss coming to the wrestler that went on to become the State Champion at 160lbs. Patrick wrestled well and gave us a lot of excitement as he took a couple of his opponents into overtime to clinch the victories. Patrick showed a lot of stamina and determination as well, securing a 3rd place position at the end of the tournament.
Josh Chen went against Jaime Weaver from Alleghany in his final match for 3rd place. These two wrestlers have been battling each other for two years and were at 3 and 3 coming into this match. Josh finished his season on a high note when he pinned Jaime in the second period to clench the 3rd place position.
Great job guys, and a great season for the entire team!

Senior Night at Bishop McGuinness
The wrestling team celebrated their Senior night this past week on January 25th and honored their 5 seniors (Justin Vanderpool, Josh Chen, John Valitutto, Patrick Lawler, and Ben Barrow) who will be graduating this year. Each senior was presented with a large photograph of themselves in some of their key wrestling matches, a certificate signed by each of the coaches, and a single rose to present to their mothers (for all of the stress and worry they put them through ;->). Great job guys, we will miss you all.
