                               2008 Class AAA State Champions!!

Apple Valley won the 2008 Minnesota State Wrestling Championship with a 57-6 victory over Albert Lea.  This was the ninth State Wrestling title for AVHS in the past 10 years and the sixteenth overall state title for the AVHS Wrestling team.  The team is rated #3 in the nation and is the top-ranked public high school.  Congratulations to all the wrestlers, managers, coaches, and supporters!

In the individual portion of the state tournament, AVHS had five individual champions which ties the state record for most individual titles in a year.  This gives the AVHS Wrestling team a state record 52 individual state champions.  The individual state champions were Eric Devos (103), Destin McCauley (119), Justin LaValle (130), Matt Mincey (135), and Tyler Lehman (171).  Additional placewinners included:  Matt Kelliher - 2nd (112), Tom Kelliher - 2nd (125), Jarrett Hoeppner - 4th (140), and Craig Kelliher - 3rd (152).

Head coach Jim Jackson was voted Head Coach of Year for both Section 3AAA and the State of Minnesota.

Congratulations to the 9th Grade Team State Champions!!

The Apple Valley 9th grade team won the 9th Grade League Team State Championship with a 44-26 win in the championship team dual.  There were 24 teams at the team dual event.  In addition, Chris Carney was a 9th grade individual State Champion.  Congratulations to the wrestlers, managers, and coaches!!

Win with Class; Lose with Dignity

This statement has been stressed by the Apple Valley wrestling program as an important pillar to the success of our program and in life overall.  In wrestling, as in life, everyone deserves to be treated with respect.  We would like to take this opportunity to emphasize to all members of the Apple Valley wresting family to respect all mat officials, opposing wrestlers, coaches and fans.

Good sportsmanship is a point of emphasis this year for the MSHL.  A new program has been implemented whereby mat officials will rate the sportsmanship of wrestlers, coaches, and fans.  Let’s show the state of Minnesota that the Apple Valley wrestling family can win off the mat as well as on the mat!

Our Philosophy...
At Apple Valley High School we believe success in wrestling, as in life, comes through thoughtful preparation and a sincere commitment to improvement through learning. Opportunities in life are at best difficult to anticipate but preparation can be a constant achievable goal. By working to learn we work to succeed. By growing as people we place ourselves in a position to seize opportunities and achieve personal goals.  There is no pretense in such a philosophy. We are what we make of ourselves and what we give of ourselves.
