2007-2008 TCVA Season Summary
Tri-County Volleyball Association reached new heights this year. The 16U “Titans” team had a spectacular year and are headed to the US Junior Olympic National Championships. They finished 5th out of 144 teams at the Lone Star National qualifier and by finishing 2nd in the Lone Star Regional National championship qualified for Nationals to be held in July at Dallas . The 16U team roared through the competition at the Lone Star championships. They entered the tournament ranked fifth but had to finish in the top four teams to qualify for the national championships. A victory over #4 Brazos Valley secured their qualification and a victory over #1 seeded “AVA of Texas 16 Asics” propelled them to the Regional championship. Unfortunately, they lost in close sets to AP 16-Stealth to finish second. Head Coach Blaise Cui praised his team “The Titans peaked at just the right time. Their outstanding performance at two national qualifiers prepared them well for the Lone Star Region National Division Championships. Our middle blockers (McKenzie Adams and Tara Dunn), hitters (LeighAnn Huddleston, Lauryn Lozano, Kelsey Davis and Breanne Schultz), setters (Taylor Martinez and Brittani Loux) and defensive specialists (Megan Lee and Kacie Simpson) all worked together as a team to earn a bid to the Junior Olympic Nationals. I also want to thank my Assistant Coach Rich Simpson and board members Carolyn Epperson, Terrie Adams and Penny Skinner for all their support to this team and all the teams. We could not have made it to nationals without their support.”
“We are very excited about how each team performed this year. Our 12U and 13U teams had solid seasons and medaled at several local tournaments. The 14U team reached the final four of the Cross Court Classic in Houston . The 15U reached the select championship match at the Lone Star Classic and the final four of the Lone Star Regional club championships. Each team represented their club and communities well and we are proud of each athlete” summed up Club President Richard Simpson.
