An Unfortunate Event

This past Saturday afternoon an unfortunate event occured in the Monroe Fields parking lot. Sometime shortly before 5:00 PM, while Fall Ball games were in progress, a car parked underneath the trees at the backside of the lot had a window smashed and valuables were stolen from inside. To my knowledge, this has never happened before at Monroe. Please help us by reporting any suspicious events in the parking lots to a Board Member or the staff at the Snack Bar and refraining from leaving valuables in your car. Hopefully this is a very isolated event, but an ounce of prevention...

The SRALL Majors All Star team played their way to the final round of the Major League District Finals in Healdsburg. In Monday night's game they staked themselves an early lead courtesy of a prodigious, 2nd inning, Brandon Miller, grand slam home run. The relentless attack of Petaluma Valley's offense however, ended up being the deciding factor. Petaluma Valley won the game by a final score of 14-5 and SRALL's great season is now complete.

Congratulations to all of the players and coaches. You have provided the League with much excitement and pride throughout this memorable tournament season.

SRALL Majors All Stars are District 35 West Champions

"It was the worst of times, it was the best of times"..."what goes down, must come up"... Maybe that's not quite how these famous phrases were penned, but it aptly describes the play of our SRALL Majors All Star Team the last two games. Where on their first attempt to beat Mark West on Tuesday, base runners were running into unneccessary outs, on Wednesday evening they were stealing bases. Lazy fly balls and weak grounders turned into solid line drives. Balls batted by Mark West that were finding gaps between players and gaps between gloves and the ground were now sure outs. The results of the turnaround? A superb 9-2 victory against an outstanding Mark West team, the District 35 West Division Majors All Star Championship and a trip to Healdsburg on Saturday to play for the Major League District Championship!

It took no time for SRALL to demonstrate that Tuesday's loss was long gone and it was a new day at Andrews Field. Jamie Iroz opened the game with a double. Then Brandon Miller did what Brandon Miller does. Two run home run and before the game had seen its first out, SRALL was up 2-0.

In the bottom of the first Jake Hunt took the mound for SRALL. Jake showed a few early jitters and walked the first batter he faced. That walk turned into a run following a well placed bunt and a ground out, but a Mark West runner was stranded at third and SRALL maintained the lead, 2-1.

Ryan Frenzel opened the second with a single, but was stranded as Mark West recorded three straight strikeouts. In the bottom of the frame Jake gave up one more walk, but no runners came home and two more K's were added to his one from the first inning.

In the top of the third the floodgates opened. Rylan Kobre and Miller doubled back to back, resulting in a Kobre run. Miller then took third on a follow up single by Torrance Fleming, and home on a single by Joe Beneducci. Paydon Miramontes was accorded a walk that sent Fleming to third and Beneducci to second. Another single followed, this time by Ryan Frenzel, sending Fleming home and Beneducci on to third. The innings first two outs came on a 6-3 double play, but Mason Robinson quickly stepped in to pick up the hit parade and singled home Miramontes. The SRALL half of the inning was finally halted, but by then our boys had posted five more runs and led 7-2.

In the bottom of the inning Jake started quickly, striking out the first two batters faced. Mark West then picked up a single and scored its second run following a stolen base and two more singles. The inning, and for that matter all Mark West scoring, was quelled by one more Hunt strikeout.

SRALL was not satisfied with their five run cushion and added tally number eight in the top of the fourth. It came courtesy of another Beneducci RBI as he picked up Fleming who had previously singled and stolen second.

The bottom of the fourth saw two more Mark West runners stranded as Hunt left the last two batters shaking their heads following strikeouts. That gave Hunt a total of eight strikeouts in four innings.

The fifth inning was relatively uneventful as SRALL was unable to add to it's run tally. Ryan Frenzel was sent in to take over for Hunt in the bottom of the inning, and that he did. He gave up a double to his first batter faced, but then settled in and recorded three straight outs, two by way of the K.

The top of the sixth saw one more run plated by SRALL, but everyone was anxiously waiting the bottom of the inning to see if there would be any type of miracle comeback mounted by the team from the north side. Frenzel put an end to any such speculation. Following a first base gift to Mark West's first batter, he recorded three straight strikeouts to wrap up the District 35 West Majors Championship for SRALL!

Congratulations are in order for all of the teams who participated in the tournaments hosted by SRALL. More congratulations are due to the entire SRALL community who pulled off a minor miracle by coming together and hosting two great tournaments simultaneously. But, of course, the greatest praise goes out to all of our SRALL ballplayers for whom it is all about.

...Thanks to Bonnie Beneducci and Sandy Miller who contributed great photos of the Championship celebration. Those photos, and others, can be seen by clicking here.
