WELCOME TO
SOUTH VALLEY LITTLE LEAGUE®

NEWS !!  With boundary changes toward 2008, we are now serving Drain, Elkton, and Yoncalla school districts in addition to South Lane School District (primarily Cottage Grove, Oregon).  The boundary description is attached as a link on the "South Valley News Page" !

We chartered our first year in 2003 and are primarily located west of I-5 and just south of Eugene/Springfield.
Click on the blue "map" icon by the webmaster if you'd like a better idea of where we are located ...

Little League Baseball and Softball - and every local chartered Little League - is first and foremost a "Child Development Program" using baseball and softball as the means to help our youth become healthy, productive, positive members of their adult community!

Little League® does not limit participation in its activities on the basis of disability, race, color, creed, national origin, gender, sexual preference or religious preference.
... and will not turn any child away for lack of or limited funds.

Our primary focus and goal is to provide every child within our boundaries the opportunity to experience LEARNING and IMPROVING on the fundamentals of BASEBALL and SOFTBALL in a FUN and educational environment - playing in Little League. Our objective, as with all Little League® programs and noted in our Constitution, is to "implant firmly in the children of the community the ideals of Good Sportsmanship, Honesty, Loyalty, Courage and Respect for authority, so that they may be well adjusted, stronger and happier children and will grow to be good, decent, healthy and trustworthy citizens."

Currently, SVLL is looking to have an All Star team for 9 & 10 year old Baseball, Junior League Baseball, 10 & 11 year old Girls' Softball, and Little League Girls' Softball.  The "Little League Girls' Softball" team is made up of only ages 11 & 12 ... and will likely be a team combined with players from South Valley and the Pleasant Hill area kids from Willamette Valley Little League.

We are part of Oregon's District 9 (newly formed prior to the 2003 season).  Forming as a new District, we started with one HUGE league serving Lane County and now have six leagues focused on creating the 'hometown' feeling best known across Little League.  Click on the league name for additional information regarding their specific program. Leagues are only authorized to register players residing within their legal boundaries.

BETHEL LITTLE LEAGUE - NEW in 2008 - serving Bethel School District, Elmira, Triangle Lake & Junction City HS boundaries! With this being a 'starting year," Bethel LL is being served by a "common board" with West Emerald Valley - two separate businesses/charters and non-profits served under one common board. President: Rick Stewart

MCKENZIE LITTLE LEAGUE - serving Thurston High School boundaries. President: Bo Hart

SHELDON LITTLE LEAGUE - (formerly "Emerald Valley East Little League") - serving Sheldon and Harrisburg High School Boundaries. President: Jerry Rygg

WEST EMERALD VALLEY LITTLE LEAGUE - serving the boundaries of Churchill, North Eugene, South Eugene, and Crow high schools. President: Rick Stewart

WILLAMETTE VALLEY LITTLE LEAGUE - serving Springfield, Marcola, Mohawk, Pleasant Hill, Lowell, Creswell & Dexter. President: Dave Duncan

SOUTH VALLEY LITTLE LEAGUE®  is the League Baseball and Softball® affiliate serving our local community.  SVLL is not an affiliate of South Valley Rec Association.

NOTE: The term "Little League" and the Little League logo are federally-registered trademarks of Little League Baseball, Inc., Williamsport, Pennsylvania, extended only to local chartered leagues for purposes of identification and publicity.

    BOARD OF DIRECTORS:

Our annual meeting was held in June, 2007, including elections for 2008, and the following are your League Board of Directors and Officers effective October 1st, 2007. Their term runs through September 30, 2008. As you can see, the actual ‘individuals’ operating your program are small in number, as you will learn, they are high in motivation and caring about the kids! They will appreciate help from those in the community with the same desire – a safe, fun, ‘learning’ Little League program for area youth! Anyone interested in helping and/or being part of the volunteer pool for your league operations is encouraged to call 942-3077 or 942-3841 for additional information –

ELECTED - Required Positions: President, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer, Player Agent, Safety Officer, Coaching Coordinator, League Information Officer (Webmaster):

    • President/Coaching Coordinator - Randy McClendon
    • Vice President/Player Agent – Shawn Teague
    • Secretary/Safety Officer – Lacey Teague
    • Treasurer - Bonnie McClendon
    • League Information Officer/Webmaster - Raleen Hockenberry

APPOINTED – these positions may be created, or changed by Board from pre-season through the regular season.  Each of these individuals have specific duties that help the operation of the league for the kids and other volunteers:

    • Umpire Coordinator – POSITION NEEDS TO BE FILLED
    • Field Scheduling Coordinator – POSITION NEEDS TO BE FILLED
    • Field Maintenance - Steve Petit
    • Equipment - Randy McClendon
    • Uniforms - Jill Tuerffs
    • League Fund Raiser Coordinator - Sheryl Childers
    • Fund Raiser Coordinator "by Division" - POSITION NEEDS TO BE FILLED
    • Sponsor Recruitment Coordinator – "everyone" should be recruiting Sponsors!  -  POSITION NEEDS TO BE FILLED

    "BASIC SCHEDULING OVERVIEW"
"Regular Season" for area Little Leagues generally begins with registrations in January and February for players "League Age" 5 through 18, "evaluations" to help create 'balanced teams' for 9-18 year olds in late February and early March, practices generally begin in mid-to-late March, and games running from early-to-mid April to about June 15th! Then it's All Stars for those voted in!

Questions about the League should be directed to 541 942 3841 ...

The league's charter and insurance covers Little League activities from January 1st through December 31st - and the new league year charter and insurance goes in to effect as soon as payment of funds is received - (hopefully no later than January 1st of the following year) - allowing for continuous activities which may include fundraisers, clinics, work on pitching, batting, fielding. For those kids who are 'high on baseball and softball,' Little League provides the opportunity for leagues to have activities to keep the kids occupied :-) Being a 100% Volunteer Program, what the League can provide depends on volunteer involvement by adults across the community. No volunteers? No program. No volunteers? No additional activities. Step up to the plate and help make your local League the best it can possibly be!

Monitor the "SOUTH VALLEY NEWS" link! Included on that page are specific bits of information important to the Registration process, as well as additional information about your League.

Your local Little League® has gone through some EXCITING changes ~

    1. 2003 (our first year) - we had two "Major Baseball teams" for players ages 9-12.

    3. 2005 - 1 Major Baseball and 1 Junior Baseball.
    4. 2006 brought additional changes in the "demographics" of our program - with our first ever Tee-Ball team, and two minor Baseball Teams that were 'coach pitch/instructional," plus one Major Baseball Team!
    5. 2007 - we doubled the # of teams we had in 2006!
    6. 2008 - we extended our boundaries to include the school districts serving Elkton, Drain, and Yoncalla AND increased our player registration to just over 100  ...
    7.  Our participation #'s ...

2008’s season has continued to great showing of community participation with nearly 100 children! BUT … we know there are many more who could benefit from learning the program is here, and we make every best effort to get the word out! Your Volunteer Board appreciates all the help it can get as it moves forward. We appreciate your 'appreciation, support, and assistance!' as we set goals, define the program, and help the community make it happen ...

Little League® - "The Child Development Program" is ready to move forward to make this the best and most organized season our community has experienced with the program ~ Join in with YOUR energy and commitment to the Kids!

In 2007, participation doubled from 2006!

      • 2 Major Baseball Teams
      • 1 Junior Baseball Team
      • 1 Player Pitch Minor Girls’ Softball Team

FOR 2008 - and beyond ... HELP US CONTINUE TO GROW! Register your child, recruit friends and their families to participate, share with others in the community that Little League® is HERE "4 The Kids"!

In 2008, we had continued growth with:

      • 2 Tee-Ball
      • 1 Coach Pitch Minor Baseball
      • 2 Player Pitch Minor Baseball
      • 2 Junior Baseball
      • 1 Player Pitch Minor Girls' Softball
      • 1 Major Girls' Softball and
      • 1 Junior Girls' Softball team (from the new boundaries including Drain!)

      _______________________________________

Until we have a higher number of teams in a specific division, all divisions will be 'interleaguing' (playing games) with teams from other chartered Little Leagues across Lane County. "Regular Season" (all kids play) generally starts up with games during the first week of April and runs through approximately June 15th! Our goal for the future is volunteer and player participation for all divisions - from Tee-Ball through Big League - and Challenger Division® (for children with mental and/or physical 'disabilities'). We're thrilled to have Softball developing in our League!!

Little League® - "The Child Development Program" is ready to move forward to make this the best and most organized season our community has experienced with the program ~ Join in with YOUR energy and commitment to the Kids!

      IMPORTANT NEWS BROADCAST!
South Valley Little League® generally schedules (with other District 9 leagues) to begin its games early to mid-April - and will finish "regular season games" around June 15th! Throughout "regular season," the board works with teams and families where we have players that are "league age 9" and up - toward commitment to selection of eligible players for All Star teams to will represent us in District tournaments, and (if continuing to win) beyond to the State Tournament level. We're part of The Real Deal: Little League® International, so there's always the dream vision of one of the South Valley teams going all the way to Little League Baseball World Series® in Williamsport, Pennsylvania, or Little League Softball World Series® in Portland, Oregon ... with teams from all over the world!
The gist: "South Valley Athletics" (formerly Cottage Grove Recreation Association) usually begins their baseball/softball games about June 15th! CHILDREN MAY PARTICIPATE IN LITTLE LEAGUE®, AND, IF NOT SELECTED TO AN ALL STAR TEAM, COULD OPT TO CONTACT THE REC PROGRAM FOR ADDITIONAL PLAYING TIME - OR DISCUSS WITH THE LITTLE LEAGUE BOARD THE OPTIONS OF PARTICIPATING IN A "TRAINING AND DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM WITHIN LITTLE LEAGUE!
** CHECK THE "SITE NEWS" about Little League's move to a mandatory "Pitch Count" instead of number of innings pitched ... and check about All Stars!

LEAGUE COLORS: RED, WHITE, & BLUE!   Our boundaries are the same as the SOUTH LANE SCHOOL DISTRICT plus the communities of Drain, Elkton, and Yoncalla - so any child residing within those boundaries is invited to sign up and play. Each season, the number of teams, and placement of players on those teams will be determined once we see how many kids sign up. We hope to grow and provide more levels of play - for boys and girls from age 5 clear up to 18! It all depends on "numbers!" For the "older kids," if they really want to play and there are not enough for a local team, we will work with District 9 to have them be part of "combined teams" with ballplayers from our neighboring leagues.
