What is the SMBBA?

ST. MARGARET’S BAY BASEBALL ASSOCIATION

Welcome to all new and returning players for the start of another baseball season.

We've been experiencing site glitches this year and are currently organizing a brand new one.  Until all systems are go however, should you not be able to open or download our registration forms, please email Pam Jones for a form in JPG format for convieniance.  We are still accepting Registrations, we will find a team for every player of course, but the sooner the better for gear preperations. pamelajones@eastlink.ca

We had a wonderful turn out Sat April 26th, at the Lakeside Rec registration...Thanks for bringing BLT back in such style.

WE WILL NEED A PHOTO COPY OF THE PLAYERS BIRTH CERTIFICATE ATTACHED to all Registration forms.

We are pleased be offering the following age divisions, T-Ball 5-7  Rookie 7-9, Mosquito 9-11, Peewee 12-13, Bantam  14 -15.  We are placing a special emphasis on developing all girl teams if the interest is expressed from now on.

As in past years, there will also be competitive teams who will play in the Bluenose League, administered by Baseball Nova Scotia.  Sign up sheets for those interested in trying out are located at the registration table.   The URL address is http://www.eteamz.com/smbbaseball/. or search Baseball Nova Scotia’s’ website and find us there.

Our Association will be providing a kick off camp to our T-Ball and Rookie players for a minimal fee if necessary. Dates will be announced sometime in May.  Please make a note on your registration if you’d be interested in helping some of our “seasoned” players either for this one day event or to donate refreshments, prizes, etc. Of course, we can be called or emailed also.

Hammond’s Plains will be having indoor camps for Mosquito at the Sackville Curling Facility – tentative dates are end of April till mid May - $45 per player. Limited space is available for Mosquito. If interested please contact Holly LaPierre at 468-7213 or 499-3777. You can also contact her via email at holly.lapierre@aliant.ca. Peewee and Bantam - dates are Sunday April 13, 17, 24, May 1 and May 8 – 6pm to 7:30 is Peewee – 7:30pm to 9pm is Bantam.  These clinics will also be used as condition camps for those interested in trying out for the rep teams. Please note – the last two indoor sessions will be the start of the tryouts selection process.  Once registration is complete – we should have the teams in place with coaches, etc by mid-May.  HRM generally will not allow us to start any league play till the first week of June. There will be an umpire clinic on Saturday, April 19th – The cost is $60. Anyone the age of 12 and over is welcome to attend.  For those brand new umpires – if you commit to 5 games over the summer, we will reimburse you the cost. As always – coaches and other volunteers are needed.  Please contact us if you have any questions. ThanksSMBBA Executive

Our association is responsible for minor baseball in the St. Margaret's Bay Area from Beechville to Hubbards along the Bay Road and from Hammonds Plains to Dover along the Peggy's Cove Road.

The S.M.B.B.A. executive strive to help the youth in our community enjoy and excel in the game of baseball. We put forth a program that enables both the recreational and competitive players an opportunity to meet new friends and be part of a team environment that dwells on player development, fairplay and good sportmanship.

Please contact us if you have any ideas or desired information for the site. For now please visit often and enjoy.

Sincerely,
Executive SMB Baseball Association.

St. Margaret's Bay Baseball Association Needs Your Help

Organizations like ours depend upon the support of the community, and rely on volunteers who graciously donate their time, enabling Minor Baseball to exist. We are in need of interested individuals to fill positions as coaches and umpires for the upcoming season. Without more volunteers there cannot be baseball in our community. Please read the following outline of where we need help and see if you could be available to help.

Coaches

Do you enjoy working with children? The smell of fresh cut grass? The thrill of friendly competition? Then maybe coaching is for you. Many parents want to help out on the field but don't know how to get involved. It's simple, call any of the former executives and give them your name. Others say, "I don't know how to coach." Well we can solve that problem too. We will be arranging for a Level One Technical and a Level One Theory course for all our first time coaches. The Level One Theory deals with coaching in general and is required by Sport Nova Scotia for all coaches, regardless of the sport. The Level One Technical is Baseball Specific and is required by Baseball Nova Scotia before you can take the field. The extra bonus is that SMBBA will pay for the coursing if you guarantee coaching a team for the year. Of course we want you to continue but we only require you to do it for the one season.

*** An RCMP screening of all coaches and assistants is required for this upcoming season to protect the children. This process is done as a free service by the RCMP and only takes a few minutes.

Umpires

Are you interested in baseball but not comfortable with coaching, or are you a student over the age of thirteen, that would like to make a little extra cash? Umpiring may be for you. Umps are paid cash at the game and typically make $25 a game. This is perfect for the teenager, fourteen or over, that loves the game and wants a summer job. Again, what you need to do is contact a SMBBA Executive Member or the Webmaster and give them your particulars. We will arrange for your coursing and registration. What we require is a guarantee that you will Umpire six games during the year and we will pay your coursing and registration, (And yes, you still get paid for those six games) if you want to do more or use your certification elsewhere you are free to do so. All we require is the first six games. More information is available by contacting Rick Fleming at 477-6352 or send an email to richardfleming@eastlink.ca.
