"My Team History Page" Description
This page contains a history of the different teams that I have played with during my baseball and fastpitch softball career. Each team is represented with either batting or pitching stats that I accumulated during my time with each team. This page will also list the team's win/loss record for the year(s) I played with the team, and a brief description of my playing experience with each team. -Bruce Hackett Rochester Royals(NY), 2002-2003, 2005-2008
*2002- I joined the Royals for the 2002 season, after the Olean Lumberkings folded in the spring of 2002. The Royals were a much different team than the previous adult amateur teams I had played on. This team was/is made up of older, more experienced ball players. These guys play because they enjoy playing. The teams I played on in the past were made up of mostly college players, trying to stay sharp by playing over the summer. The Royals finished the 2002 year with a 13-8 record. I returned to the mound with the Royals, after pitching very sparingly in the 2001 season. I was available only on a part time basis for the Royals due to my fastpitch schedule. *2003- I again joined the Royals for the 2003 season. I played more with the Royals in 2003, and picked up 2 wins and 3 saves on the mound, and I found my power stroke at the end of the year, hitting 3 HR's for the year with the team. *2005- After a one year absence from the RMSBL, I joined the Royals for one game during the 2005 season. I pitched a 9 inning complete game with the team, though we lost the game. In the game I also batted, which was the only baseball game of the season I was able to bat in due to injury. *2006- I was only able to play a few games with the Royals in 2006, due to first an injury, and later because of my schedule with other teams. The Royals had a tough season overall in terms of wins and losses, but the team played quite well the games that I was able to play with the team. *2007 - The Royals team rebounded from 2 losing season to post a 12-10-1 overall record, including 2 wins in the RMSBL playoffs. *2008 - Here are my combined batting and pitching stats with the Royals for the 2002-2003, 2005-2007 seasons: Batting(Stats)- Games-47, At-Bats-164, Runs-42, Hits-65, Doubles-13, Triples-2, HR's-7, RBI's-44, Stolen Bases-10, Strikeouts-14, Walks-20, Avg.-.396 Pitching(Stats) Games-32, Starts-23, Innings-190.66, Hits-217, Strikeouts-182, Walks-41, Earned Runs-82, Wins-11, Losses-8, Complete Games-12, Saves-3, ERA-3.87 2002 Team Record- 13-8 2003 Team Record- 16-11 2005 Team Record- 5-13-1 2006 Team Record- 5-15-1 2007 Team Record- 12-10-1 ------------------------------- (5 Season)Win/Loss Totals -- 51-57-3 Rochester Red Stockings(NY), 2003-2004, 2006-2008
*2003- I joined the Red Stockings for the 2003 season, and it was one of the greatest times I have ever had on a baseball field. The Red Stockings contained many members of the Rochester Royals team, 8 in all. We won the regular season division with a 13-3 record, then went undefeated in the playoffs with a 3-0 record. I had one of my best baseball seasons of my career with the Red Stockings, compiling a 6-0 record on the mound, and batted .647, with 2 HR's and 22 RBI's in 12 games in the field. *2004- I was only able to play a handful of games with the Red Stockings due to weather and my commitments to other teams during the season. In those games, I mostly pitched for the Stox, and batted only .307 in the 5 games. *2006- After not playing with the Red Stox for one season, I returned and had one of my best seasons ever in a baseball uniform. Our team made it all the way to the League Championship game, dropping a close one by the score of 6-5. This was also the first season the Rochester NABA League switched to using all wood bats. *2007- A rough year for the Red Stox, finishing the regular season with a 7-9 record, and then being eliminated in the first round of the playoffs by the Padres. (2003-2004, 2006-2007) Red Stockings(Batting) Stats- Games-37, At-Bats-103, Runs-31, Hits-46, Doubles-15, Triples-2, HR's-3, RBI's-34, Stolen Bases-4, Strikeouts-4, Walks-21, AVG.-.447 (2003-2004,2006-2007) Red Stockings(Pitching) Stats- Games-27, Starts-22, Innings-175.0, Hits-149, Strikeouts-227, Walks-30, Runs-87, Earned Runs-49, Record-17-5, Saves-2, Complete Games-16, Shutouts-1, ERA-2.52, Strikeouts Per 9 IP- 11.75, Walks Per 9 IP- 1.48 2003 Team Record- 16-3 2004 Team Record- 10-8 2006 Team Record- 13-3-1 2007 Team Record- 7-10 -------------------------- (4 Season)Win/Loss Totals - 46-24-1 Hackett's Cubs (2008)
We started the Cubs in 2008, because we needed a sponsor for our ESA League team and I decided to pony up the dough as the sponsor. I have long been of fan of the Cubbies, so it seemed a logical choice as our team name. Adding several new players, including St. Bonaventure pitcher Sherri Thompson, we expect to compete for first place in the league in 2008. Batting Stats - Games-15, At-Bats-44, Runs-13, Hits-19, Doubles-6, Triples-3, Homeruns-2, RBI's-18, Strikeouts-3, Walks-7, AVG.-.432 2008 Win Loss Record - 10-7 overall, 2-1 in playoffs Ricola Couph Drops (Morris Plains, NJ) 2008
*2008- I joined the Ricola team after the Elkland Fastpitch Team ceased operations in late 2007. The Ricola team is sponsored by the Ricola Company, a Switzerland based company that has been making herbal candies, such as cough drops for over 60 years. The team has been sponsored by Ricola for the last 18 years. Batting Statistics - added at the end of the 2008 season. 2008 Team Record- Troy Storm(2004-2008)
*(2004) I joined the Troy Storm for one game during the 2004 season, pitching for the team aginst the Candor Coyotes of the STABL. *(2005) An injury during a Storm practice cost me the entire 2005 STABL season as a batter. My only addition to the Storm team for the 2005 season was as a pitcher. *(2006)I rejoined the team as a fill in player during the 2006 season. *(2007) I played just one game with the team in 2007, pitching a victory over the Black Sox in the STABL. *(2008) I played 3 games for the Storm in 2008 as a first baseman, filling in on Saturday games when the team was short players. Batting(2004, 2006-2008)- Games-18, At-Bats-33, Runs-7, Hits-7, Doubles-1, Triples-0, Homeruns-1, RBI's-6, Stolen Bases-0, Strikeouts-2, Walks-10, AVG.-.212 Pitching(2004-2007)- Games-10, Starts-7, Innings-56.0, Hits-71, Walks-9, Strikeouts-55, Runs-42, Earned Runs-18, Record-2-4, Saves-1, Complete Games-4, ERA-2.89, Strikeouts per 9 IP- 8.83, Walks Per 9 IP- 1.44 2004 Team STABL Record- 7-11 2005 Team STABL Record- 10-9 2006 Team STABL Record- 10-7 2007 Team STABL Record- 8-10 2008 Team STABL Record- 11-9 ------------------------------------ (5 Season)Win/Loss Totals - 46-46 The Elkland Fastpitch Travel Team(PA), 2002-2007
*2002- I had spent the summer of 1995 playing tournaments with Hackett & Son's, but then played only the Elkland(PA) tournaments in 1999 and 2000. Our 2002 Elkland squad reunited me with several players that I played American Legion baseball with in high school in 2002. We finished at 25-27-2 for the 2002 season, but placed in the top 10 at the 2002 NSA World Series, and finished 2nd in the 2002 Elkland "B" Tournament. *2003- our team turned the corner, so to speak, and finished the season with a 24-20 record. We added better defense, improved pitching, and a solid hitting lineup in 2003. If our team continues down the "improvement road" in 2004, we just may have one of the best teams that the town of Elkland has produced in a number of years. *2004- proved to be the best single season the Elkland Fastpitch Team has ever had. For the season we compiled a 26-15-2 record for the season, and finished in 2nd place in 3 tournaments, 3rd place in 2 tournaments, and had a 4th place finish in the Elkland Labor Day Tournament. Probably the most noteable finish of the season was a 3rd place finish at the 2004 NSA World Series. *2005- was the Elkland teams best ever season, finishing the season with an overall record of 33-10 on the season, and even more impressive the team started out the season with 17 straight wins on the season, and won 4 straight tournaments to start the season. I was limited to playing in only half the games for the season due to injury, but I finished with my best ever batting average with the team(.380 in 79 at-bats). *2006- Our team finished the season with an overall record of 25-12 on the season. We had our ups and downs as the season went on, but overall it was a success, finishing the year with a 3rd place finish at the Elkland Labor Day tournament, behind the pitching of fastpitch legend Paul Algar. I had my worst season in terms of batting average, batting .312 for the season, with just 15 RBI's on the year. *2007- Our team moved to the open/major level of fastpitch, and had a very decent season for our first time at the open level, posting a 27-14 overall record. Probably the highlights of the season was our 2nd place finish at the NSA World Series, where we won 8 games, while only losing 1. 2002-2007 Elkland Fastpitch Team Batting Stats- Games-240, At-Bats-670, Runs-123, Hits-221, Doubles-36, Triples-15, HR's-17, RBI's-123, Stolen Bases-1, Strikeouts-126, Walks-55, AVG.-.330 2002 Team Record- 25-27-2 2003 Team Record- 24-20 2004 Team Record- 26-15-2 2005 Team Record- 33-10 2006 Team Record- 25-12 2007 Team Record- 27-14 ---------------------------- (6 Season)Win/Loss Totals - 160-98-4 The Foghorns(Elkland, PA) (2007)
(Fastpitch Softball) The Foghorns team was created in 2007, after the departure of several players from the previous Moose league team in the ESA League into their very own team. The Moose team folded and players went to the Morgan and Margraff team, while others stayed together and formed the Foghorns. The team was named after players on the team noticed the “bed head” of Elkland Fastpitch manager Joe Cevette at a tournament the previous season. The name stuck and became the team name for the 2007 ESA League season. While with the team I played both first base and occasionally played the outfield. Batting Stats – Games-17, At-Bats-56, Runs-21, Hits-27, Doubles-8, Triples-2, Homeruns-5, RBI’s-21, Strikeouts-2, Walks-9, AVG.-.482 2007 Team Record- 12-7 overall, 10-8 in league play Moose Team, ESA League(PA) 2003-2006
*In 2003 I returned to my previous ESA League Team after spending the 2003 season with my brother on the Steve's Beverage Team. I was only able to play in 9 league games, due to my baseball schedule. *In both the 2004 and the 2005 seasons I was unable to play in a full ESA league schedule due to injury and commitments to other teams. *In 2006, our team claimed both the regular season and the playoff titles in the ESA League. Overall we had a 14-2 record, with a 2-0 record in the playoffs. 2003-2006 ESA League Batting Stats- Games-35, At-Bats-120, Runs-32, Hits-46, Doubles-10, Triples-6, Homeruns-4, RBI's-32, Stolen Bases-0, Strikeouts-2, Walks-17, AVG.-.383 2003 ESA Moose League Team Record-12-1 2005 ESA Moose League Team Record-17-2 2006 ESA Moose League Team Record-14-2 ------------------------------------------------ (3 Season) Win/Loss Totals - 43-5 Big Flats Tribe(NY): 2004
Tired of the long drives to and from Rochester, NY for games, I started up the Big Flats Tribe and the Steuben Chemung Baseball League for the 2004 season. The league went ok, rain played havoc on our schedule throughout the year, but the team played very well overall, finishing the season with an overall record of 18-4, including a league regular season record of 14-3, a non league record of 2-1, and a SCBL playoff record of 2-0. On a personal note, my overall play, both at the plate and on the mound was not too bad considering I was usually worrying about everything but my playing. I used myself as a relief pitcher for the season, and as a DH and outfielder. I had looked forward to continuing both the team and league in 2005, but it never materialized, and I have since moved on to playing other leagues in the Upstate NY area. 2004 Big Flats Tribe Batting Statistics- Games-18, At-Bats-55, Runs-13, Hits-21, Doubles-8, Triples-0, HR's-2, RBI's-17, Stolen Bases-0, Strikeouts-5, Walks-6, AVG.-.382 2004 Big Flats Tribe Pitching Statistics- Games-9, Starts-1, Innings-17.0, Hits-12, Strikeouts-23, Walks-3, Strikeouts-23, Runs-3, Earned Runs-3, Record-3-0, Saves-1, Complete Games-0, ERA-1.24 Steve's Beverage(NY), 2002
I returned to the ESA Fastpitch League on a full time basis in 2002, after spending the last 2 years(2000-2001) playing very sparingly for the Moose Team. Playing with Steve's Beverage teamed me with my brother Blaine, who served as the team's ace pitcher. Blaine compiled a 12-2 record on the mound, and blasted 5 HR's at the plate on the season. Steve's finished with a 14-4 overall record, 11-4 in the league, and 3-0 in the playoffs. Steve's finished 2nd in the 2002 ESA League Standings, and won the 2002 ESA Playoffs, with a 3-0 record. The following are my hitting stats with Steve's for the 2002 season: Games-18, At-Bats-62, Runs-27, Hits-33, Doubles-9, Triples-3, HR's-1, RBI's-29, Strikeouts-5, Walks-5, Slugging Pct.-.823, AVG.-.532 2002 Team Record- 14-4 Binghamton Black Sox(NY)(2001)
I joined the Black Sox for their final weeks of the season in the STABL league. They finished the regular season 10-10-1, clinching the third seed for the playoffs in their division. I took over as their starting centerfielder. The playoffs will begin on August 11th. The Black Sox fell to the Afton Chiefs in the first round of the playoffs 10-7 in 9 innings. the Black Sox will merge with the STABL Angels in 2002. The following are my statistics with the Black Sox: 2001 Binghamton Black Sox Statistics ------------------------------------ Stats(batting)- 6 Games, 18 At-Bats, 7 Runs, 6 Hits, 1 Double, 3 HR's, 13 RBI's, 1 Stolen Base, 3 Strikeouts, 5 Walks, .777 Slugging Pct., .333 AVG Stats(pitching)- 3 games, 6.66 Innings, 7 hits, 8 Strikeouts, 5 Walks, 8 Earned Runs, 8.51 ERA. 2001 Team Record- 10-11-1 Olean Lumberkings(NY)(1997,1999-2001)
I have played with the Lumberkings for 2.5 seasons. the team has compiled a record of 85-22 while I have been with the team and won three consecutive Buffalo News Central League Titles. I managed the team last season(21-7), taking over for Player/Coach Matt Burke. While with the Lumberkings I have had the opportunity to play with many Div.I players. This allowed me to judge for myself, if I could still compete with the higher talent college players. One of the teams greatest accomplishments was finishing in 2nd place in the 2001 Memorial Day Tournament. We were the under dogs of the tournament, winning 5 games(three were come from behind victories). In the first game of the tournament I got the chance to live out a HR opportunity that every guy dreams about. In the bottom of the 7th, trailing 3-2 with 2 outs I came to the plate. The opposing team had brought in a left-handed pitcher to face me(lefty vs. lefty). Falling behind 0-2 and then being knocked down on a pitch inside, I felt that we were destined to play the rest of the tournament in the losers bracket. The next pitch was a low fastball that I deposited over the right center field wall, for a game winning 3-run HR. This is probably one of my biggest baseball thrills. The Following are my statistics with the Olean Lumberkings: Stats(batting)- 68 games, 261 at-bats, 99 runs, 112 hits, 25 Doubles, 4 Triples, 24 HR's, 104 RBI's, 3 Stolen Bases, 24 Strikeouts, 43 Walks, .831 Slugging Pct, .429 AVG Stats(pitching)- 15 Games, 60.33 Innings, 63 Hits, 53 Strikeouts, 25 Walks, 23 Earned Runs, 7-1 Record, 1 CG, 2 Saves, 2.66 ERA 1999 Team Record- 30-10 2000 Team Record- 32-5 2001 Team Record- 21-7 --------------------------- (3 Season)Win/Loss Totals - 83-22 Bath Bombers(NY)(1996-1997,1999)
I began my Adult Amateur Baseball Career with the Bombers in 1996. It was very much being in the right place at the right time. I was coaching a Legion Baseball game when the opposing coach began visiting with me and said his son was coaching an adult team. He said they were looking for a left handed pitcher for the next day. I called Bill Steele III and asked him if I could throw for them. This started my career with the Bombers. I played on three league championship teams and in 1999 I won the SCMABL MVP Award. I also was voted MVP of the first ever Bomber Invitational in 1996. This was more than just a baseball team to play on for me. Amateur baseball didn't exist in the area I lived so I planned on my senior college season as being my last in the game of baseball. Playing with this team had me beginning to think that I would still be able to play the game when my college career was complete. The team folded after the 1999 season as well as the SCMABL. By now I had made contacts to other teams and would continue on with my amateur career. The following are my statistics for my 2.5 years with the Bath Bombers: Stats(batting)- 60 games, 226 At-Bats, 75 Runs, 96 Hits, 25 Doubles, 3 Triples, 12 HR's, 79 RBI's, 12 Stolen Bases, 32 Strikeouts, 30 Walks, .721 Slugging Pct., .424 AVG Stats(pitching)- Games-23, Starts-15, Innings-87.66, Hits-92, Strikeouts-97, Walks-23, Earned Runs-37, Record-12-4, Complete Games-3, Shutouts-2, ERA-2.95, Strikeouts Per 9 IP-9.95, Walks Per 9 IP-2.36 1996 Team Record- 28-9 1997 Team Record- 29-5 1999 Team Record- 22-6 --------------------------- (3 Season)Win/Loss Totals - 79-20 Redding Giants(CA)(1998)
I played only one season with the Giants. I hooked up with the team after I was released from the Chico Heat. A fellow Heat player, Jason Beeman(who had played for the Giants before signing with the Heat) asked me to take his place on the Giants roster. These were big shoes to fill. Jason had been the Northern California Hardball Associations MVP the previous year. This was a very talented team and I had the opportunity to play again with Jason at the end of the season(Jason retired from pro ball, to spend more time with his family). We finished the season 24-4 and brought the Championship home to long time Giants coach Ron Morris. I finished as MVP-Runner up in the NCHA. I also had the best playoff series of my life. In the 3 game championship series against the Rockies I hit 6 HR's, and won a game on the mound. It was truly a remarkable year for me. It gave me the confidence to believe that I was a power hitter. The following are my stats with the Giants: Stats(batting)- 22 Games, 83 At-Bats, 33 Runs, 36 Hits, 9 Doubles, 11 HR's, 34 RBI's, 9 Strikeouts, 13 Walks, .939 Slugging Pct, .433 AVG Stats(pitching)- 12 Games, 61.33 innings, 54 Hits, 68 Strikeouts, 19 Walks, 25 Earned Runs, 8-1 rec., 2 CG's, 2.83 ERA 1998 Team Record- 24-4 Chico Heat(CA)(1998)
After my college career ended I came to the realization that my future in pro baseball was not going to happen. I went undrafted in the 1997 major league baseball amateur draft. I got the idea in my head that if I worked out all winter that I would have a chance to hook on as a free agent in either the Minor Leagues or the Independant Leagues. I had a few options. I had planned to either tryout for the Elmira(NY)Pioneers, The Chico Heat(CA), or possible fly to Florida for a tryout with the Baltimore Orioles that a friend of mine was trying to get for me. My first tryout was my last. I traveled to Calfornia in March of '98 for a tryout with the Chico Heat. I spoke to then Heat manager Bill Plummer(Former Seattle Mariners Manager, and member of the Big Red Machine) on the phone who said to come down to the tryout(which just happened to be on my Birthday). At the tryout I was clocked at 85-86(MPH). I pitched in a simulated game for about 30 pitches and allowed only one hit. I was contacted by the Heat General Manager shortly after the game. The words ring true still today, "We'd like to offer you a contract". I signed two days later for standard rookie pay($600 per month). 30 players were invited to camp. Of the 30, 22 would be selected for the season. I made it to spring training, but only appeared in 1 game before being released. Only two true rookies(no pro experience) were on the club at the time, and both of us were released when some veteran were taken off the disabled list and put back on the active roster. Still it was the experience of a lifetime. This experience did have its negatives. After being released I decided it was time to give up my dream of making it to "the show". It was a road that I did not want to travel. I met alot of players who were at there end of their pro careers and didn't have much to show for it. I didn't want that to be me. So I moved back to where I grew up, got a regular job, and became a "ball playing weekend warrior". Here is my pitching stats of my 1 professional game: Stats(pitching)- 1 Game, 2 Innings, 2 Hits, 1 Walk, 1 Strikeout, 1 Earned Run, 0-0 rec., 4.50 ERA. Salem International(Teikyo) University(WV)(1994-1997)
I was recruited a little during my high school years, mostly by division II colleges. I had three schools that had offered scholarship money, Slippery Rock Univ., STU, and Gannon Univ. I decided on STU because they had offered the largest scholarship and the promise that I would play as a Freshman, rather than having to red-shirt. During my 4 years at STU I had the opportunity to play a variety of positions(6 in all) and played with players from 4 different countries. I also got to travel to Florida every year for Spring Training. During my 4 seasons at STU the team managed only a 59-77 record, and one trip to the WVIAC playoffs. The team now has a new coaching staff and is still on a rocky road, but are making progress. The following are my batting and fielding statistics at STU: Stats(batting)- 113 Games, 297 At-Bats, 49 Runs, 87 Hits, 20 Doubles, 1 Triple, 2 HR's, 54 RBI's, 5 Stolen Bases, 53 Strikeouts, 39 Walks, .387 Slugging Pct., .293 AVG Pitching Statistics- Games-40, Starts-27 Innings-145.0, Hits-170, Strikeouts-93, Walks-74, Earned Runs-85, Record-8-15, Games Started-27, Complete Games-7, ERA-4.10, Strikeouts Per 9 IP- 5.77, Walks Per 9 IP- 4.59 1994 Team Record- 14-19 1995 Team Record- 20-21 1996 Team Record- 14-16 1997 Team Record- 11-21 ---------------------------- (4 Season)Win/Loss Totals - 59-77 Elkland American Legion(PA)(1991-1993)
I never had the opportunity to play high school baseball. My high school, Elkland HS, and many of the neighboring high schools did not offer baseball. Instead many of the local baseball players played American Legion Baseball in the Tioga County League. My first year in the league with Elkland we won the league with an impressive 21-2 record. I was selected all three years as an all star(2 as a first baseman and 1 as an outfielder). After my playing career was over I returned to coach the team in 1996(10-11), the next to last year of the teams existence. Now most of the players who wish to play summer ball go to play for Corning(NY) American Legion. The team compiled a 54-21 record while I was playing for Elkland. The following are my Statistics while playing Legion baseball: Stats(batting)- 72 Games, 240 At-Bats, 80 Runs, 102 Hits, 26 Doubles, 4 Triples, 10 HR's, 90 RBI's, 8 Stolen Bases, 27 Strikeouts, 23 Walks, .691 Slugging Pct., .425 AVG Stats(pitching)- Games-28, Starts-17, Innings-135.66, Hits-123, Strikeouts-182, Walks-70, Earned Runs-63, Record-15-8, Complete Games-9, ERA-3.25, Strikeouts per 9 IP-12.07, Walks Per 9 IP-4.64 1991 Team Record- 21-2 1992 Team Record- 17-8 1993 Team Record- 16-11 ---------------------------- (3 Season)Win/Loss Totals - 54-21 |
