Sharks Finish 3rd in Bandit's Fun Fest in Cullman
For the second week in a row, the sharks came up short in the semi-final to the team that eventually won the tournament.  The Sharks finished 3rd in the tournament, losing to the eventual champion Tomboy's 4-2.  The team started off slow, losing to the Red Storm Elite (3-1), Blue Mystics (5-0) and the Tomboy's (5-0) in pool play.  The team played very well, still short handed due to Natalie M. and Lindsey S. being out with health issues.  Uncharacteristically, the bats were cold Saturday, cause the team to only plate one run in the three games.  Several opportunities were missed with runners in scoring position to score, however it wasn't our day.  The pool bracket was expecially strong with those teams being some of the better teams in the state.  Being 0-3 in pool played, earned the team the 4-seed for elimination forcing an early Sunday game with the 1-seed from the opposite bracket (Twisters).  The bats came back alive and the Sharks beat the twisters 6-1.  Several great defensive plays were made with hitting contributions coming from almost everyone on the team.   Winning that game forced a rematch with the Tomboy's the team jumped out to early 2-0 lead, only to fall 4-2.

Monday, September 10
Sharks Finish 3rd in 1st Tournament of the Fall

The Sharks finished third in their first tournament of the fall losing to the eventual champions (Birmingham Vipers) in the semi-finals 3-0.   The team played short handed the entire weekend due to a number of conflicts and Natalie M. being too sick to play.  The team played outstanding all weekend finishing with a 4-1 record beating the Sparks '94 (5-0), Crusher's Orange (8-3), LC Pride (4-0) in pool play earning the number one seed in their bracket.  Highlights from these games, included a no hitter thrown by Emily against the Sparks, two additional outstanding pitching jobs by Alyssa and Carrianne and some awesome defense plays by Myriah and Lindsey and several great hits by Alyssa, Lindsey, Mary Calvert, Julie including a home run by Emily against the LC Pride.

The team started slow in the first elimination game Sunday morning digging a 6-0 hole to the Crushers Black.  Facing elimination the bats came alive and pounded out a 9-6 victory in a thrilling come from behind game.  All the hits were used up in the come back and the bats went cold in the semi-finals where the team lost to the Birmingham Vipers who went on to win the tournament beating the Red Storm '93 4-2 in the finals.

Mary Calvert did another herculean job, catching 3 different pitchers over 5 games of the tournament.  Great job girls ....  A very good showing for the first tournament of the fall playing without some very key players.

The Sharks '93 traveled to Panama City Beach, FL to compete in the the United States Fastpitch Association (USFA) World Series the week of July 8-15, 2007.   The team had an awesome week, coming in 13th out of 70 teams.  Teams in the 14U age bracket represented 11 states.

The team played 3 pool games on Monday and Tuesday against quality teams from Texas, Louisiana and Georgia.  The pool games allowed the girls to prepare for elimination games that started Wednesday morning.  The team won there first two elimination games against the Magic (Atlanta, GA - 9-1) and Centex Slugger (Austin, TX / USFA Texas State Champions - 4-0).  By winning these games, the girls earned a day off and didn't have to play at all on Thursday.  Friday morning, the Sharks got the Fury '92 from Monroe, LA.  The Sharks took a 4-1 lead into the 4th inning only to lose a heartbreaker 5-4.  That loss sent the team to the losers bracket, requiring they win the next three games to advance to the gold bracket (final 8 teams).  The team won the next two games beating x and then the defending 14U USFA world series champions (Panama City Lady Lightning - 6-3).  The team fell to the South Georgia Botz 4-2 to be eliminated.

A number of incredible plays, both offensively and defensively, occured during the week.  The team recorded four double plays (Natalie Matos, Chelsea Fagan, Jacquie Shadden, Lindsey Sylvester).  Mary Calvert Sammons caught all 8 games and led the team in hitting for the week.  Emily Adlich recorded back to back home runs against the the Panama City Lady Lightning.  Alyssa Statham, played solid 3rd base and came in to pitch the final game trailing 3-0 to shut down the boltz, allowing only 1 run, the final three innings.  Natalie Williams and Julie Davis contributed several key hits for the week.
