Welcome to the Shakopee Girls Softall Association Web Site!!
The purpose of the Shakopee Girls Softball Association (SGSA) is to plan, structure and coordinate Shakopee Youth Softball; to be a governing body of the program; and to uphold the philosophy of the program.

Our philosophy is to benefit the youth of our community by providing means for their athletic and social development through organized sports. It is our goal to recognize the importance of all individuals and to conduct our programs in a manner that provides the opportunity for the development of all participants.

SGSA offers three levels for In-House Softball. Peewee softball is for girls who have completed the 2rd or 3rd grade. Midget softball is for girls who have completed 4th or 5th grade. Juniors softball is for girls who have completed 6th, 7th, or 8th grade. Emphasis is on skill development and learning the game of softball. Both softball levels will practice/play two nights a week starting in May and ending in July. In House softball concludes the season with an Play the Parents fun night. All levels will stress that winning is not the primary goal.

Traveling softball is a more competitive level of play. Winning is not the primary focus, however, more emphasis is placed on competing and striving to win. Winning at the constant expense of specific individuals will not be allowed. Teams will be formed, based on numbers, for 10U, 12U, 14U, 16U, & 18U. The season starts at different times based on the age group. Games are double headers and played twice a week (except 10U, once per wk). Typically traveling to communities in a 15 mile radius. Weekend tournaments can range from one to three. An end of the season tournament is held around the end of June or first part of July.

Emphasis is on skill development, team work, cooperation, sportsmanship and respect for others. Recognizing that individuals will have different skills and needs, a positive environment will be created to foster contribution, accomplishment, confidence and a feeling of self-worth in all players. Each participant will be treated fairly and know they are an important part of the team and that their contribution is valued.
