Starr's Mill opened the final regular season game of the season by having their first 7 batters reach base against starter Nathan Bown. A double played helped get the Patriots out of the inning, but not before 6 runs scored (5 earned). Sandy Creek was able to chip into the lead, trailing by only 2 after 6 innings, but could not get over the hump, and lost by a final score of 7-5.
After the shakey 1st inning, Bowen settled down and pitched 2 scoreless innings with 2 K's. Travis Himber took over, holding the Panthers scoreless in the 4th and 5th. Humber opened with 6th with two walks, but Hunter Parrott came on to strike out the side. Parrott finished with 5 strikeouts in 1-2/3rds innings of work. Sophomore Aaron Warren made his varsity debut in the 7th, coming in with the bases loaded and two outs. He coaxed a weak pop-up on one pitch.
Zach Drummond lead the offense, getting on base in all 3 of his at-bats (1 hit, 2 walks, 1 run, 1 RBI). Andrew Toles reached base twice (with 1 hit, 1 walk, 2 steals) and drove in a run with a sacrifice fly. Duncan Midkiff had a double and scored a run.

This was Senior Night for Avery Anderson, Nathan Bowen, Blake Brewer, Craig Carroll, and Duncan Midkiff. All 5 of these outstanding seniors have signed college scholarships to continue their playing careers next year. Congratulations!
Every batter got at least one hit in Sandy Creek's 16-2 win over Cedartown. The win, coupled with the Cass loss to Cartersville, gives the Patriots 3rd place in region 6-AAA with a final region record of 9-5 (18-7 overall). Braxton Lane (2-2, 2 BB, 1 HBP) lead the way, reaching base in all 5 of his at-bats and scoring 4 runs. Also collecting 2 hits each for the Patriots were Arthur Owens, Nathan Bowen, Avery Anderson and Andrew Toles. Russell Bonner hit the game's only home run.
Duncan Midkiff pitched the first 4 innings, giving up 5 hits, 1 walk, 5 strikeouts, and 2 runs (none earned). Hunter Parrott pitched a perfect 5th.

Sandy Creek could have secured 3rd place in the region with a win, but came up on the short end of an 8-5 loss at Villa Rica. Blake Brewer pitched the first 5 innings, and left the game with a 3-2 lead. Unfortunately, the bullpen gave up 6 runs in the 6th to drop the Patriots to 8-5 (17-7 overall). Brewer was close to unhittable, striking out 10, walking 5 and giving up only 2 hits (both in the 5th inning). He touched 93 on the scouts' radar.
Offensively, Sandy Creek did not generate much offense, getting only 4 hits. Nathan Bowen had a double, and Lane, Midkiff, and Parrott had the other hits.

Sandy Creek made it 5 in a row, and 9 of their last 10, with a 4-1 win at Central Carroll. The Patriots were lead in hitting by Hunter Parrott (2-3, 1 RBI) and Chris Triplett (2-2, HBP, 1 run).
Braxton Lane opened the game with a single and advanced to 3rd on a wild pitch. Arthur Owens drove him in with a sac fly. Central tied the game plating an unearned run off Nathan Bowen in the 2nd. The game stayed 1-1 until the 5th, when Chris Triplett singled and advanced to 2nd on a passed ball. Russell Bonner hit a deep fly to left center, and Triplett moved up to 3rd. Lane drove him home with an RBI ground-out. Then with 2 outs, Arthur Owen singled, stole second, and came home on an Andrew Toles single. The Patriots final run was scored in the 6th on a Duncan Midkiff double, followed by a Hunter Parrott RBI single.
Nathan Bowen went 5 innings on the mound, giving up only 2 hits. He struck out 7 but didn't appear to have his best stuff, as he walked 4. However, he kept battling, and only allowed the one unearned run. Chase Blount pitched a scoreless 6th, and Avery Anderson a scoreless 7th for the save.

Sandy Creek travelled to Carrollton and improved to 6-4 in the region (15-6 overall) with a 4-1 win. Blake Brewer pitched 5 innings for the win, striking out 10 and giving up only 3 hits, 1 run and 5 walks. Carrollton advanced runners to 3rd in 4 of the 5 innings Brewer pitched, but in every inning except the 5th he was able to keep them from scoring, usually with a big strikeout.
At the plate, Sandy Creek opened the scoring with 2 runs in the 2nd without benefit of a hit or the ball leaving the infield. Duncan Midkiff opened the inning being hit by a pitch, and advanced to 2nd on a stolen base. After two strikeouts, Hunter Parrrott hit a chopper to short that took a tough hop, ruled an error by the scorer, which allowed Midkiff to score. Chris Triplett followed with a grounder in the hole at short, but a bad throw allowed him to reach safely with Parrott advancing to 3rd. The 3rd error of the inning on a Braxton Lane grounder to 2nd plated Parrott with the 2nd run.
With the Patriots ahead 2-1 after the 5th inning, Craig Carroll rattled the fence in left center for a double leading off the 6th. One batter later, Nathan Bowen blasted a home run to left, giving Creek a 4-1 lead. Avery Anderson came on in relief of Brewer and held Carrollton scoreless for the save.

Sandy Creek 16 - Haralson Co 0
Patriot bats came out swinging as Sandy Creek defeated Haralson Co 16-0 in a run-rule shortened 3 innings. Duncan Midkiff was a perfect 3-3, with a homer and 4 RBI. Other players with two hits were Braxton Lane (2 runs, 1 RBI), Andrew Toles (2 runs, 3 RBI), Craig Carroll, and Russell Bonner (2 runs, 1 stolen base).
Nathan Bowen pitched all three innings, scattering 3 hits and 1 walk. He gave up two hits in the first inning with only one out, but got out of the jam by a beautifully turned double play grounder to third (Bonner-Owens-Green). Bowen helped his own cause defensively in the 3rd, ending the game by starting a 1-6-3 DP (Bowen-Triplett-Green). He struck out four and threw first pitch strikes to 10 of the 11 batters he faced.
Sandy Creek improved its region record to 5-4, 14-6 overall.
Wednesday, April 16
Sandy Creek 7 - Newnan 3
Sandy Creek played outside the region, visiting Newnan (4-AAAAA) and came away with a solid 7-3 win. The Patriots scored single runs in three of the first four innings to take a 3-1 lead behind the one-hit pitching of Duncan Midkiff. Midkiff finished with 7 strikeouts. Avery Anderson followed with two innings (giving up only 2 hits and 1 run while striking out 3), and Chase Blount closed out the 7th (allowing the final Courgar run). Sandy Creek showed improvement defensively, committing only one error (on a botched pickoff attempt).
Offensively for Sandy Creek, Craig Carroll pounded out 3 hits, which included a double and solo homer, driving in 3 runs from his catcher's position. Chris Triplett had 2 hits, one of which was a triple. Zach Drummond also tripled and scored.

Cartersville 13 - Sandy Creek 1
Cartersville came into Sandy Creek’s Butch Bennett Field Tuesday as the top-ranked team in Region 6-AAA. Sandy Creek quickly found out why.
The Hurricanes pounded out 12 hits -- including a homer and a grand slam -- on the way to a 13-1 win over the host Patriots in five innings. The Patriots (4-4, 12-6) managed only four hits off Cartersville and committed four costly errors in the field.
The Hurricanes (7-0, 12-5) kept their hold on the region’s top spot with the win. Cass and Carrollton are tied for second with 7-1 region marks, and Creek is in fourth.
The Hurricanes came out swinging, and jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the first inning with a lead-off homer and a grand slam. They added five runs in the top of the second, and never looked back. They tacked on three more runs in the top of the fourth. Creek’s only run came in the bottom of the fourth. With two outs, Duncan Midkiff and Nate Bowen both singled. Alex Green singled to load the bases, and Midkiff came home on a balk by the Cartersville pitcher.
Blake Brewer, who drew a crowd of scouts armed with radar, opened on the mound for the Patriots. He threw two innings -- hitting the 91 miles per hour mark before giving up the mound to Travis Humber, who closed the game.
