Milwaukee Journal Article on RYAC:
look
Group pulls together team to support sports
Club sets $3,000 goal for Racine athletics, hopes to expand throughout region By ANDY TURNER

Milwaukee Journal Sentinel:
Racine - There is the Downtown Athletic Club, the New York-based organization that plays host to college football's Heisman Trophy ceremony.
Then there is the Racine Youth Athletic Club - not quite at the same level but equally committed - a new group that seeks to promote and raise money for youth sports in Racine County.
"You have to start somewhere," said club President Bob Evans, who founded the booster club in January with Dave Harder and Mike Patino.
The three men started the group with a fairly basic plan.
"We wanted to have four events a year, and the money we received we would give to youth sports in Racine," Evans said.
There was no model they looked to, said Evans, who has coached youth football in Racine for 12 years.
"The three of us brought enough thoughts, enough ideas," he said. "We thought if we could get members who are willing to work, the sky's the limit."
Initially, the club hopes to raise about $3,000 a year. The organization then will distribute the money to such groups as Racine Youth Sports, the Racine Area Soccer Association, the Washington Park Kids Club and the Old-Timers Athletic Club.
16 on board
The RYAC has 16 board members - all handpicked - but plans to have open membership and aims to have 500 members within five years. In 10 years, the group would like to have chapters throughout southeastern Wisconsin.
"Our hearts are definitely in the right place," Evans said. "We have a great group of people who are willing to help out, who are creative and who want to promote the club. We are very determined.
"We go by our motto: 'The future of the world is seen by the eyes of its youth.' I think that tells people where we are coming from."
Marie Rasmussen was asked to join the club last fall. All three of her children have participated in youth sports in Racine, and she feels obligated to give something back. Rasmussen is in charge of promoting the organization.
"This is just a real small way I can pay back with everything I've gotten," she said. "I just felt very honored to be a part of it."

To: Local Business Owner/Manager

The Racine Youth Athletic Club (RYAC) is a booster organization that supports local Youth Groups. Examples of organizations that we have supported are the Washington Park Kids Club wrestling, Racine Youth Sports, R.A.S.A., Big Brothers / Big Sisters and several other sports camps and events. RYAC also originated the “Friends of David Penza” fundraising campaign. David is a former RYS football player who has contracted bone cancer. The campaign has been very successful and is helping afford the family the opportunity to receive special treatments that, prior to our efforts, were not affordable.

RYAC holds 4 main events during the year –A Home Run Derby contest, Chili Cook-off which is a team effort with Big Brothers / Big Sisters, 9 –Pin tap bowling tournament and our signature event, the Pigskin Classic. The Pigskin is a collaborative effort with RYS and involves the 2 older leagues – Senior and Major. Each team selects the players that will represent them for this early November contest. The only criteria RYAC has established is that each player must have a verifiable at least “C” average in school. We not only stress athletic but academic achievement as well. There is a banquet held at Roma Lodge the night before honoring the participants which is attended by over 300 people. Each player receives a commemorative RYAC Pigskin Classic Tee shirt at the banquet.

We are soliciting (a) sponsor(s) to have their name on the sleeve of each Tee shirt. For a sponsorship of $1500 your company/business will receive the following:
1.        Your company/business name with logo exclusively on the sleeve of each of 2007 Pigskin Classic t-shirts.
2.        Invitation to the banquet and the game.
3.        Top sponsor billing on the cover of the Pigskin banquet program, which has an average attendance of approximately 300 people.
4.        Top sponsor billing on the 2007 Pigskin Classic DVD (we sold approx. 200 in 2006).
5.        A table sponsorship placard placed on the head table at the Pigskin banquet.
6.        Public address recognition by the announcer during both 2007 Pigskin games, which will be played at Carthage College.
7.        A table sponsorship placard on a table at the 2007 Chili Cook-off.

For a sponsorship of $850 your company/ business will receive the following:
1.        Your company/business name with logo on 1 of the sleeves.
2.        Invitation to the banquet and the game.
3.        Recognition in the sponsor list on the Pigskin banquet program.
4.        Recognition in the sponsor list on the 2007 DVD
5.        A table sponsorship placard at the Pigskin banquet.

The sponsorship money raised helps defray the cost of putting this event on.

Send a message to kids that you support this event and acknowledge the RYAC philosophy of academic as well as athletic achievement.

“RYAC - A Commitment to Guide, Support and invest in America’s Youth”

Friday, August 10
Reggie White signed 75th Anniversary Football
Reggie
The Racine Youth Athletic Club is in possession of a limited number of Reggie White signed 75th Anniversary footballs. These footballs are now being offered to the public. The proceeds are going to 3 very needy causes, the Racine Youth Athletic Club (RYAC), “Living With” Foundation and Pipeline Ministries. RYAC is a booster club which promotes local youth athletic programs, Pipeline Ministries is an outreach program which provides spiritual guidance to people in need and the “Living With” Foundation is devoted to helping people cope with ALS or Lou Gehrig’s disease.

For your donation of $300 you will receive one of these ‘hard to find’ collectors items. For your donation of $500, you not only receive the football but also advertising for the next 2 RYAC events. These events are the Pigskin Classic Football event in November and the Chili Cook-off also in November. The value of one of these footballs is much more then the $300 donation that we are asking. The timeliness of this item is also significant since Reggie will be inducted into the Football Hall of Fame this August. You can use this item as a promotional piece for your business, as a raffle item for your personal cause/organization or simply keep it yourself as a reminder of one of the greatest football players whoever played and one of the greatest people whoever walked this earth. A Certificate of authenticity will be sent along with the football.

To receive one of these special footballs, please fill out the information on the form provided and send it in. You better hurry, they won’t last long. Please send a limited edition Reggie White signed football with Certificate of Authenticity to the address below. Enclosed is my check or money order for $300 – football only or $500 for the football and advertising in the next 2 RYAC events. If you do choose to receive the advertising for our next 2 events, you will be contacted to review the information you want advertised. Check and application should be mailed to: Mike Reth 3319 Riverwalk Ct. Racine, Wi 53405 ………………………………………………………………………………………………

Dear Friend and Local Business;

Racine can be proud of its commitment to youth sports. We have seen some great football talent come out of Racine and play college ball and even some pro ball; but how does our youth talent compare to the rest of the country? With your help, we may soon find out!

Tryouts were held to put a field of talent together and head to the Ted Ginn Gridiron Classic over Thanksgiving week-end. On Sunday, September 25, we had over 55 young athlete’s tryout for this once-in-a-lifetime experience. The top 25 players have been chosen. This is a dream week-end of football for these young players. You can help turn this dream into a reality!

The Racine Youth Athletic Club (RYAC) immediately came on board to become a sponsor and paid the entry fee for the tournament. However, that is just the beginning of the costs associated with this awesome experience. Conservatively speaking, I estimate the costs of taking one team of 11 year olds to be $3,700.00. We plan on doing fundraising, and each player does have to put in an initial fee and be active in the fundraising activities. Time is short, though, and most of the other teams rely on community corporate sponsorships.

In keeping with the RYAC belief in the student/athlete, each of our players will have to have a verified “C” average in school. Parents must attend meetings to proactively address behavior. The routine waivers, insurance forms, etc will also be taken care of prior to departing Racine. In other words, this is a well-run event that will only reflect positively on our community and the young men who will comprise the team.

We are hopeful that you will consider a donation to this cause. Because you are receiving nothing of intrinsic value, your donation will be tax deductible to the fullest extent of IRS rules and regulations. Checks should be made payable to RYAC – c/o Vinnie Scacco and mailed to PO Box 080883 Racine, WI. 53408

I Appreciation of your donation your business will appear on the RYAC web site and on the commemorative T-Shirts that the players will be receiving. The T-Shirts are being donated by another local area business and friend of RYAC. Racine Screen will be printing the shirts for the players. You will also receive a framed team photo in sincere appreciation of your donation.

If you have any questions regarding this event, please do not hesitate to contact me at the numbers listed below. We are excited to field a team to represent our community and we hope you will share in this excitement and support this positive, memorable experience for some of Racine’s youth. We do hope to expand this program next year and we would be happy to report back to you when we return from Cleveland about our experience.

Yours for Racine’s youth,
