Stony Brook softball coach Megan Bryant has announced the signing of two student-athletes to National Letters of Intent. IF/OF Suzanne Karath (Fishkill, N.Y./Roy C. Ketcham High School) and C/OF Jessica Phillips (Cicero, N.Y./Cicero-North Syracuse High School) will join the Seawolves softball program in the fall of 2008. "In signing Suzanne and Jessica, we have added two talented, confident young women who are a great match for Stony Brook University both academically and athletically," said Bryant. Karath hit .356 with 19 stolen bases and 17 runs scored as a junior last season and was named All-League, All-Section and a second-team Poughkeepsie Journal All-Star. She is also a standout goalkeeper for her high school's soccer team. Karath also plays with the CT Panthers Gold traveling team, coached by Bryan Pereyo. "Suzanne is exactly the athlete we were looking for in an outfield candidate both offensively and defensively," said Bryant. "She can slap from the left, hit from the right, has good power potential and is an excellent base runner with speed." Coach Bryant has high hopes for the hard-working Karath and expects her to challenge for a starting spot immediately.
