FROSH CHIEFS TAKE 2nd IN INAUGURAL TOURNEY
Coach Tom Haggerty and the Frosh Chiefs spent a windy Saturday in Cachey Park hosting 8 other teams in the First Annual Chiefs Summit Frosh Tourney. The Chiefs battled to victories over Minooka and Downers Grove North/South before dropping a close one to the Fenwick Friars 5-3 in the Championship game. The Fox Valley Foxes, a club team, took 3rd place in the tourney.
Full tournament scores and photos will be posted soon. Photographer Hank Wolf was at the tourney taking shots, and they are available for viewing and purchase at www.highfivephotos.com
The Chiefs Summit was the first Frosh tourney of its kind in the southwest suburbs, and provided all teams with the opportunity to play at least 2 games, most teams playing 3. Teams involved were: D230 Chiefs, York Dukes, Minooka Indians, Hinsdale Central Red Devils, Naperville Central Redhawks, Fenwick Friars, Downers Grove North/South, Fox Valley Foxes, and Homewood-Flossmoor Vikings. Due to a last minute cancellation, the brackets had to be reorganized on the fly. Thanks to all teams for being understanding and flexible.
Thanks to the Haggerty, Teschke, Kurtovich, Palumbo, Nelson, and Miller families, as well as NiCole and Chloe Kedziora, for their help in planning and executing the event. Thanks also to all of our parent volunteers for their time and energy, and to our tourney sponsors..XS Energy Drinks, Lacrosse America, and True Lacrosse, for helping provide this opportunity for lacrosse teams from all over the south and west suburbs.
Plans are in the works to make this an annual event.
The D230 Chiefs are open to all interested boys grades 9 - 12 from Sandburg, Andrew, and Stagg.
If you or someone you know would like to play lacrosse, email us for more info at chiefslax@comcast.net

=================================
HISTORY The Chiefs are a boys lacrosse team. The club was organized in the summer of 2003 by George Miller, the father of a junior high boy. Several boys from Century JHS and surrounding towns came to a clinic put on by Lacrosse America during the summer. That group played several games against high school teams and then moved on to an indoor league at Darien Sportsplex. Today, those boys are still playing lacrosse. On March 24, the D230 School Board voted unanimously to recognize Lacrosse as an emerging sport. The first season in the IHSLA was played in spring 2005.
There are two programs within the club -- a high school progam and youth program. Based in the Orland Park area, the HS team is composed of members from each of the Distrct 230 high schools - Andrew, Sandburg and Stagg . Any male student in District 230 is welcome to join the high school program and play on one of the teams.
Orland Park Lacrosse Club also has a 4th through 8th grade junior high division that is the life blood and future of lacrosse in District 230. Players come from throughout the Southland. The youth team looks forward to another successful season in preparation for the challenges of competitive high school lacrosse.
