Firebirds Game Recaps

TRIPLE CROWN WORLD SERIES (Steamboat Springs, Colorado) -- July 20 - 24, 2005

Desert Firebirds are World Series Champions!

They were undefeated in their World Series run!

Firebirds 8, Humble Lazers (Texas) 6

Triple Crown World Series, Steamboat Springs, Colorado

Championship Game
Sunday, July 24, 2005, 10 a.m.

The Firebirds battled back from a 4 - 3 deficit with a 5-run 5th inning to defeat a terrific team from Humble, Texas, 8 - 6, and earn the Triple Crown World Series Championship.  The Firebirds knocked out 10 hits, received outstanding pitching from Devon and Zach W, and played solid defense in winning the title.

Peter, Michael B, Austin and Devon each had 2 hits to lead the Firebirds offensively.  Zach W pitched 4 innings of relief to pick up the win.  The play of the game, however, was an incredible 6th inning throw from leftfielder Harley who threw out a runner at the plate with a 1-hop laser.

For the tournament, Peter (.769 -- 10 - 13) and Devon (.733 -- 11 - 15) led in batting average and hits, respectively.  Collin led the Firebirds with 11 RBIs in the 6 tournament games.  Zach W and Austin each picked up 2 wins on the mound, while G-Money won 1 and saved 1.  Devon picked up the other pitching victory.

The Firebirds scored 86 runs in the 6 games and pounded out 73 hits, in just 24 innings at bat.
