2008 Southeast Summer High School Showcase
JUNE 3-8, 2007
Hosted by Norcross High School and Wesleyan School
Wednesday, May 14
Jennifer's Corner - It's all in the numbers
100: number of wins Head Coach Andy Collins has as a head high school baseball coach
21: number of hits the Blue Devils had in the first game (second most was 15 against Grayson)
17: number of runs the Blue Devils scored against the visiting Wolverines on Friday - most runs scored in a game this season (and the game was called due to the 10 after five mercy rule)
12: number of strikeouts Taylor Rakes recorded in his win in Game 2 on Friday - the most in a game so far (11 against Forsyth Central, 10 against South Forsyth)
On Friday, The Blue Devils hosted the Woodstock Wolverines in the first round of the state playoffs and swept them.
The first game was a 17-7 win, called by the mercy rule, as Forrest Garrett picked up the win. Travis Ragsdale had three singles; Danal Slay had three singles, a triple, and an RBI; Tyler Roach had three singles and a couple of RBIs; Peter Poole and Beau Buckler (1RBI) had a pair of singles; Drew Lennox had a single and a couple of RBIs; Matt Kinney had a single, a double, and three RBIs; Nathan Mitzel had a pair of triples and 2 RBIs; and
Devin O'Malley had a single and a double. The second game was a close 2-1 win by Taylor Rakes, but a heck of a game as the Blue Devils moved on to round 2 of the playoffs. This win gave Head Coach Andy Collins his 100th win of his high school baseball head coaching
career. Drew Lennox was 3-for-3 with a pair of singles, a double, and the two RBIs of the game.
Our second round opponent will be the Brookwood Broncos on Wednesday. The double-header will be played at Brookwood with a 5pm start for the first game. The Broncos, touted as the best team in the nation last week, struggled against fourth seed Alpharetta over the weekend, losing the first game, and winning the third game on Saturday off of a walk-off home run.
The Norcross/Brookwood series is set to be an exciting one, but we lose home field advantage due to seeding. Therefore, we MUST take the home field feel with us - YOU!
PLEASE come out to Brookwood on Wednesday to support the team! Fridays games were packed with fans and we need that once again. I'll send out directions Wednesday but PLAN ON BEING THERE!
