2008 Williamsport Tournament Team Eliminated
The Williamsport Tournament team has been eliminated from Tournament play after losing both of their first 2 games. Both games we spotted the other team 8 runs before our first at bat which proved too difficult to overcome.  Thanks to the players who tried and practiced hard and the parents who collected all the paperwork and got the kids to practices and games.

League Eligibility
Newton East LL (NELL) runs baseball programs during the Spring, Summer and Fall seasons with each having unique eligibility requirements.

Spring Program - For the 2008 Spring Season, NELL serves eligible boys and girls who were born on or between the dates of May 1, 1995 and April 30, 2003 (see age chart below for eligibility). All new(i.e. first time) applicants to NELL, must reside in, or attend the public schools in, the school districts of the Memorial-Spaulding, Bowen or Mason-Rice Elementary Schools.  The only way we can accept a new/first time, out of district applicant is if we receive a written waiver from the player's assigned little league. Without such waiver, we will not accept the application.  Please note the T-Ball program is open to all children who reside in any Newton school district or attend any school in Newton. Information on the other Newton Little leagues is listed at the bottom of this page. Click here for more information on the Spring Program.

Summer Program -  The Newton Summer Baseball League operates two summer intramural programs. These are instructional leagues with relaxed competition and are open to all age eligible Newton kids.  The 7, 8 and 9 year old League is an all-Newton program directed by the Newton West Little League. The program is for players who have played farm or minor league baseball in the spring and who would like to get more experience with players pitching under relaxed competition and rules (generally AA Level). Ten-year-old players may participate. This league is for any NON-TRAVEL league player who wishes to continue playing through July and into the middle of August.  The 10-12 year old League is an all-Newton program directed by Newton East Little League. Teams consist of Major Division players from all 5 of the Newton Little Leagues, who may or may not be playing on a Summer Travel or Williamsport team. Minor Division (AAA) players who are likely to be eligible for the Major Division next spring are also included in this program. Some 9-year-olds may also participate if they are likely to be Major Division eligible and at the commissioners discretion. Click here for more information on the Summer Program.

Fall Program - The NELL Fall Baseball program is a competitive program with opponents from other Newton Little Leagues as well as Little Leagues from Needham, Belmont, Brookline, Waltham and Weston.  For purposes of the Fall league, participants must be age eligible for the upcoming Little League Spring Season (see table below).  Major Division Program – Consist of players who were members of a NELL Major Division team last spring  and who will also be eligible for the upcoming Little League Spring Season. Occasionally players from AAA teams may be considered, strictly by invitation only.  Minor Division Program – Consist of players who were members of a NELL Minor Division team last spring and who also will be eligible for the upcoming Little League Spring Season. Click here for more information Fall Program.

Field Improvements

On behalf of the Newton East Little League Baseball board of directors and volunteers, we hope to give you the very best program available.  We continually update equipment and provide training to coaches and umpires. Field improvements are an important ongoing undertaking as well. Recent improvements include:

At our Major League field - Jay Gordon / Newton Centre – a new backstop, safety coverings on the perimeter fence, a remote controlled electronic scoreboard, a state of the art batting cage / pitching machine and a warning track were installed.

At our AAA and AA fields adjacent to Wheeler Road, we re-graded these fields and installed new clay and seed which will greatly improve playing surfaces and drainage.

Our Bowen Field complex is now fully irrigated with well water, primarily through our efforts in securing a Community Preservation Act grant.  The previously existing field has been totally re-graded with the installation of new sod, clay and a new backstop.  We have also created a second baseball field at Bowen, complete with a new backstop and benches.

We're planning additional improvements as well to provide the best little league experience available.

"If you build it, he will come."

Sponsor a Team
In an effort to continue providing a high level of services and equipment, such as safety gear, major league replica uniforms and high quality playing fields, Newton East Little League urges you to strongly consider becoming part of our sponsorship and fund raising efforts. We are offering opportunities for parents, patrons and area businesses to participate in our sponsorship program. It is our hope that this program, will maintain our high level of services without continually raising fees to our children and their families. As the cost of goods and services continues to rise, more than ever Newton East Little League is counting on additional financial support to help meet costs. For more information click here   Please visit our Sponsors page.
