Majors All Stars Get to Finals
 |
The Mt. Seymour Majors All Stars, led by Manager Dan Graham and Coaches Dan Jarvis and Brad Kenning put on a great show at the District 5 Majors Championship by finishing the tournament in first place with a perfect 6-0 mark. Along the way they managed to make a little history, hitting 7 - yes, you read that correctly - 7 home runs in one game. Alas the championship was not to be, however, as the boys ran up against an extremely strong North Van Central pitching staff in the playoffs and in the Championship Game. Congratulations to the team and to the coaches on a great tournament, and for giving us all some great baseball memories.

We Are The Champions!!!!
 |
The Mt. Seymour 9-10 All Stars, coached by Mark Jones and Tim Leclair completed a tremendous District 5 9-10 Tournament by defeating North Van Central in the final 19-13 to take the Championship. This is the second year in a row Mt. Seymour have taken the District 5 Championship. Mt. Seymour went through the tournament with just a single loss, and went undefeated in the playoffs to earn a berth in the Provincial Championships which will be held at Zuehlke Park starting Friday, July 13. Congratulations to the team on a great tournament, and for making everyone very proud.
Come on out and cheer our boys on as they go for the Provincial Championship. The tournament schedule is available here.
Good luck boys!! |

ClosingDay 2007
 |
Well how quickly does a season pass! The Rookie Junior, AA, AAA and Majors seasons came to a close on Saturday, June 9, and has become customary for important dates on our league calendar - it rained! The divisional championships played out as follows:
AA: The AA division championship was played Saturday, and it was Greg McDade's Athletics defeating Peter Matthew's Red Sox 6-1.
AAA: Our AAA division got lucky, and played their championship game on Friday evening, and so escaped the rain. The two best teams through the regular season managed to meet in the final - this time it was last year's Coach of the Year Mark Jones' Mariners coming out on top over this year's Coach of the Year - Glenn Sorensen's Cardinals.
Majors: The Majors division championship was a very tight game that featured a monster home run by Jaret Babych that propelled Steve Sutton's Mariners to a hard fought 8-7 victory over Dan Jarvis's Angels. For a second year in a row the Majors championship was a one-run game, and played at a very high calibre - congratulations to both team for a terrific championship game!
This year's MVP Awards were awarded as follows:
AAA Division MVP: Eric Bradwell
Majors Division MVP: Taylor Williams
Congratulations to both players for having tremendous seasons.
In addition, the Coach of the Year awards were presented:
Two coaches were co-winners of the 'Coach of the Year' award - John Vandespyker and Glenn Sorensen. Congratulations to both coaches for providing their players and parents with a great year of baseball.
Other coaches who scored extremely well, and received Honorable Mention are: Richard Gilbert, Brian Massullo, Peter Matthews and Dan Jarvis. Thanks to all of you for making baseball the positive experience we want it to be for our players and parents.
A special thanks to Peter Clarke of Clarke's Awards for donating the 17 Sportsmanship trophies that were handed out as well - and a special congratulations to the 17 recipients of these awards as well!

Mt. Seymour Angels Take Carter Chevrolet May Majors Tournament!
 |
In a thrilling Championship game that capped a very eventful and successful tournament, the Mt. Seymour Angels coached by Dan Jarvis, with assistants Brad Kenning and Gary Mallendar defeated the North Van Central Sox 7-4 to win the 3rd Annual Carter Chevrolet May Majors Tournament. Rain threatened to wash the entire event away, but players, umpires, parents and volunteers alike persevered, and it was the biggest and best tournament ever. There are many thanks to go around, not the least of which goes to Susan Romeo-Gilbert, who took on the job of Tournament Director, and did a terrific job. More details to come.

Welcome to Rookie Senior
 |
Our busy Communication Officer (and co-2006 Coach of the Year) Bob Knight has put his pen to work in an effort to help explain the changes that are taking place in the older Rookie division. This division has been renamed Rookie Senior from Rookie 8, in order to reflect its expanded role. This document is most particularly targeted to the coaches in that division, but may be helpful to parents as well. Click here to view the document.

Player Placement
 |
Parents sometimes question how decisions are made with regard to placement of players in divisions. We have put together a write-up that explains the process used to form divisions, and place players in them. Please take some time to review this, and feel free to contact us if you have any questions or concerns. Show me the document. |

Stepping Up To The Plate
 |
If it weren't for volunteers, there would be no Mount Seymour Little League.
Because there is no paid staff, volunteer Board members work all year round to ensure that there will be a next season. One member handles our many equipment needs, another keeps the diamonds in game shape, another works to ensure player safety, and the list goes on.
Coaches and managers put in untold hours running practices, planning for games, and striving to give each of their players a positive experience. Coordinators spend long hours helping things run smoothly for the teams within their division. Then there's the Concession Booth staff that works 4-hour shifts several evening per week plus longer on weekends.
In addition to all the time they give to baseball, our volunteers have jobs and family responsibilities just like you. They're not looking for thanks, but they are looking for help.
So when you're called upon, please step up to the plate and give what time and energy you can. Or contact your child's coach or the Board and offer your services before being asked.
Thank you for joining us…to ensure that Mount Seymour Little League is very best it can be.
