Markhams Strikers Ladies - Finalists at the Soccer Fest Tournament in St. Thomas

The Markham Strikers, who are a group of ladies which play in the YRSL - Premier Division, competed in the 32nd annual Soccer Fest Tournament in St. Thomas, Ontario on June 28 and June 29.

The Strikers were led by their passionate and competitive coach, Louie Voltsinis, who stood on the side lines for the entire weekend encouraging and directing his players.  The team was comprised of the following players:  Brenda Pharoah (Goalie),Linda Mccabe, Nicole Powankumar, Tesha Takahashi, Emilie Arcomano, Nelly Chambers, Jessica Clermont, Christyn Frugoni-Rojas, Kari-Anne Noble, Sarah Owens, Tawnya Pancharovski, Tina Voltsinis, Sheryl Waggott, Shannon Wolfe, Lisa Young, Michelle Butler and Marianne Black.

In the round robin the ladies defeated Sarnia with a score of 1-0.  They lost to Byron Fury with a score of 2-1.  In the last game they defeated St. Thomas with a score of 4-0.  The two wins pushed the ladies to the final where they fought hard through regulation time, over-time and eventually penalty kicks.

The ladies left as finalists but truly won in their minds as they came together as team and bonded, showed sportsmanship and did a lot of good things out on the field.

Special thanks to Coach Louie Voltsinis for all his continued hard work and sacrifice for the ladies.  Congratulations Strikers!!!

Games

All games are on as per the schedules every week. If there are any changes they will be listed on the main page.

The Ref is the person that is in charge if the weather makes the games unplayable  and he/she will call the games off at the field.

As you are aware the weather can change on a whim so it is always best to make the effort to get to the field for the call to be made.

Thanks

Ladies Over 30 Tournament - this is the week-end after Labour day.

Ladies we always participate in the Targa Invite and this year we will be representing Markham Soccer Club there once again.

This Tournament raises funds for the Cancer Society.

We have had great success and lots of fun in this tournament over the last few years. Actually too many years to mention with many coaches helping out.  There will be one team and one team only entering this tournament representing Markham Soccer Club and the coach will be Paul Campbell. All players will be players registered to the Markham Soccer Club.

We do not intend taking players that are not registered within MSC.

The 2008 Coach is Paul Campbell and the Tournament will be in Vaughan on Sept 6th & 7th.

Paul will be in charge of the selection of the players for this tournament team.

If you wish to be included in the selection process, please send me your name and I will advise Paul of your interest and then you can be included on the list from whom the team will be selected.

The Markham Wildcats, The Markham Strikers and The Markham Lightning are all welcome to contact Paul Campbell. It has been cleared with your coaches and we are all in this together representing Markham.

All players will have to be registered with MSC to participate.

Thanks

Eira K
