About Our Program
I am looking for volunteers to act as Co-Ordinators for our Novice Clinic, Junior, Intermediate and Senior League programs. I am looking for a Referee Assigner.
We're looking forward to instructing the "fastest game on two feet."
This will be an instructional league with some round robin games with other townships.
We'll be focusing on the fundamentals of the game such as catching, throwing, groundball scoop, positions and game strategy. Our program is set according to US Lacrosse rules/regulations.
Season: March 15th (weather permitting) through the beginning of June.
The program is open to girls that are currently in 1st - 8th grades.
Skills Drills: Twice a week prior to the start of team practices. Skill Stations will be set up so that all girls are taught/review the basics of girls lacrosse
Equipment: Participants in all programs are required to wear a colored non-strap mouth guard and U.S. Lacrosse approved eye goggles (see updated approved equipment listing by clicking on "Site News" in the menu). Also review the State of NJ Protective Eyewear Mandate below for girls who wear glasses.
Sticks will be provided if required. Sticks are to be returned at the end of the season. Jerseys will be provided. Rubber cleats/turf shoes are acceptable.
In-Town 1st & 2nd Grades Novice - Once a week clinic (1hr) at Cherokee Girls Lacrosse field.
In-Town 3rd & 4th Grades: Junior League: Practice 1 day/week, 1 Game scheduled for Saturday mornings at Ravenscliff field. 7v7, No Checking, Modified Field
All 5th/6th Grade and 7th/8th Grade teams will participate in the 2008 South Jersey Youth Lacrosse League www.SJYouthLax.com sanctioned by US Lacrosse-NJ Chapter. These teams will travel to the following townships: Cherry Hill/Haddonfield, Medford, Voorhees, Mt.Laurel, Seneca, West Deptford, Clearview, Kingsway, Avalon and Marlton. This will provide the Marlton teams the ability to play similarly skilled organizations. The girls will also participate in a season ending Tournament with all the townships.
5th & 6th Grades - Intermediate League: Games scheduled for Saturday Mornings &/or Sunday Afternoons. Practices: Twice a week. Home Field at DeMassi & MMS fields. 12v12, Modified Checking, Regulation Field. End of Season Tournament
7th & 8th Grades: Senior League: Games scheduled for Saturday Mornings &/or Sunday afternoon. Practices: Twice a week. Home Field at Cherokee HS & MMS fields. 12v12, Modified Checking, Regulation Field. End of Season Tournament.
State of NJ-Protective Eyewear Mandate:
Effective 8/3/06, All Athletes who wear corrective eyeglasses while participating in Girl’s Lacrosse, Basketball, Field Hockey, Soccer, Baseball and Softball shall be required to wear protective eyewear that meets the Frame Standard (ASTM F803) and the Lens Standard (ANSI Z87.1). Athletes will not be allowed to practice and / or play in non protective eyewear. This policy is being enacted due to an Act C.5:18-1 which requires protective eyewear for certain children participating in sports. We created the policy to cover sports currently competing in the MRC program. For more information on the state mandate, click on this website:

The Eleven Fundamentals of Lacrosse
1.You must learn to catch, throw, and shoot left-handed and right-handed equally.
2.The more time you play with your stick perpendicular to the ground, as opposed to parallel to the ground, the better player you are.
3. Move the ball. The less time the ball spends in your stick, the better player you are.
4. Move the ball off the ground.
5. Move without the ball.
6. Move to the ball.
7. Look at a spot behind the goalie as you shoot.
8. Shoot with a quick release.
9. Everyone on the field plays both offense and defense. The ball transitions quickly in this game.
10. A Defender must be faster, quicker and have better stick skills than anyone out on the field.
11. You don't have to take the ball away to be a good defender.
