MARY, MOTHER OF GOD CYO PARTNERS WITH POSITIVE COACHING ALLIANCE

Hillsborough, NJ Mary, Mother of God CYO has established a partnership with Positive Coaching Alliance (PCA) to ensure a positive, character-building experience for all youth athletes in Mary, Mother of God CYO programs. PCA (www.PositiveCoach.org), a Stanford University-based non-profit organization, conducts workshops for coaches, organizational leaders, and parents involved in schools and sports organizations serving five-to-18-year-old athletes. PCA also provides workshops for high school athletes. “Working with hundreds of youth sports organizations around the United States, PCA has developed practical tools and guidelines to help youth athletes, their coaches and parents get the most out of sports,” said Billy Brazill, Director, Mary, Mother of God CYO. “We recognize the tremendous opportunity for character-building sports offers for today’s youth, so we are embracing PCA’s Double-Goal CoachTM model, where winning is one goal and teaching life lessons is the second, more-important goal.” “We are delighted to partner with Mary, Mother of God CYO ,” said PCA Executive Director Jim Thompson. “Together, we’ll strive to help their youth athletes take a positive approach to pursuing victories in athletic competition and in life.” The workshops began in June with the Executive Committee and continue in October and November for all coaches and parents.  For information about the dates and locations, please see our website at mmmogcyo.com or send us an email at mmogcyo@corneredge.com.

About Positive Coaching Alliance

Founded as a non-profit within the Stanford University Athletic Department in 1998, PCA has the mission of “transforming youth sports so sports can transform youth.”  To that end, PCA has conducted roughly 5,000 live group workshops nationwide for more than 200,000 youth sports leaders, coaches, parents and athletes.  Workshop attendees have helped create a positive, character-building youth sports environment for more than 2.2 million youth athletes. PCA trains Double-Goal Coaches®, whose first goal is winning, and whose second, more-important goal is teaching life lessons through sports. This coaching method takes its name from “The Double-Goal Coach,” a book by PCA Founder and Executive Director Jim Thompson. PCA’s partnership network includes more than 1,100 youth sports organizations, cities and schools. In 2008, PCA will conduct roughly 1,500 live, group workshops across the U.S., while assisting thousands of other individuals via online workshops at www.PositiveCoach.org. PCA has the support of elite coaches and athletes including Los Angeles Lakers Head Coach Phil Jackson as PCA National Spokesperson. Our National Advisory Board comprises luminaries from the worlds of academia, business and sports.  Some of the PCA National Advisory Board members include NBA and NCAA Champion Coach Larry Brown, former senator Bill Bradley, NFL Hall of Fame Member Ronnie Lott, Olympic Gold Medalist in Swimming Summer Sanders, University of North Carolina Men's Basketball Retired Head Coach Dean Smith, Cy Young winner Barry Zito, and Kansas City Chiefs Head Coach Herm Edwards.

MMOG CYO Partners with Positive Coaching Alliance

About PCA

Positive Coaching Alliance (PCA) is transforming youth sports so sports can transform youth. Through partnership with more than 1,100 youth sports organizations, leagues, schools and cities nationwide, PCA has conducted 6,000-plus workshops for youth sports coaches, parents, organizational leaders and athletes.

Since Executive Director Jim Thompson founded PCA as a non-profit within the Stanford University Athletic Department in 1998, we have helped create a positive, character-building youth sports environment for more than 3 million youth athletes.

In face-to-face group workshops, dynamic PCA Trainers:

  • Train youth and high school sports coaches to become Double-Goal Coaches®, whose first goal is winning, and whose second, more-important goal is teaching life lessons through sports;
  • Develop Second-Goal Parents, who focus on helping their youth athletes learn those life lessons;
  • Cultivate Triple-Impact Competitors, student athletes who strive to improve themselves, their teammates and their sport as a whole.

PCA gains support from elite coaches and athletes, including Los Angeles Lakers Head Coach Phil Jackson as PCA National Spokesperson. Our National Advisory Board comprises such leaders as NBA and NCAA Champion Coach Larry Brown, former senator Bill Bradley, NFL Hall of Fame Member Ronnie Lott, Olympic Gold Medalist swimmer Summer Sanders, Olympic Gold Medal gymnasts Bart Conner and Nadia Comaneci, University of North Carolina Men's Basketball Retired Head Coach Dean Smith, Cy Young Award winner Barry Zito, and Kansas City Chiefs Head Coach Herm Edwards.

Our partners, trainers, workshop attendees, National Advisory Board members and thousands of individuals, foundations and corporations together lead the Positive Coaching movement that is sweeping youth sports in this nation and beyond.
