The Michigan Lady Hurrikanes organization extends a deep appreciation to our supporters and sponsors for our inaugural AAU season. Our first Lady Kanes 2007 Wild Wind Classic basketball tournament to benefit breast cancer research and patients at McLaren Cancer Research Center was a huge success and resulted in a $1,500.00 donation. This helped our young champions understand the value of giving back to community and helping others, which is a core value for the Lady Kanes Young Women Development Program.

AAU REGIONALS

The Lady Kanes were the AAU #3 seed from the North Region held in Midland Michigan during March 2007. The entire team played hard and really worked together for a common goal. Our senior players steped up and provided major leadership to ensure our success.

AAU STATES

After regionals your Lady Kanes continued their success in the State D2 playoffs. The highlight of the tournament was a 20 point come from behind win in the semi-finals over an outstanding Michigan Shock team. This victory really helped to illustrate the necessity for mental toughness and "heart" required to overcome adversity. Hopefully this a lesson for both on and off-the-court.

Although your Lady Kanes were playing great basketball, we lost our focus and were beaten by the outstanding Flint Lady Warriors by 3-points in the last 20 seconds. It was truly a classic match-up and both teams deserve congratulations for a well fought battle.

DEEP SOUTH CLASSIC

Your Michigan Lady Kanes completed their initial season with a trip to the Deep South Classic. This premiere national tournament was held in Raleigh—Durham, NC, and was the stage to showcase some of the strongest teams across the US. As a first year team, our performance at the Deep South was very good with a record of 2-2 which included a tough lost in the final game in the closing seconds. Our young champions grew both personally and professional from this experience and have the confidence to compete with teams on a national level.

ADIDAS SHOWTIME CLASSIC CHAMPIONSHIPS

The Lady 'Kanes' traveled to Atlanta, GA. to compete in the very prestigious Adidas Showtime with over 300 teams and 200 college coaches from accross the nation. This was fantastic experience and resulted in significant national exposure for our young champions. The Lady Kanes were 3-2 in their first trip to the "Big Dance" and are looking forward to returning in 2008. But of most importance was the national exposure in front of college coaches. This resulted in three (3) Kanes players receiving offers for college basketball scholarships. From this perspective this was a very successful experience.

Welcome to all lady ballers serious about the game. This is the premiere development basketball club for aspiring young lady ballers from age 12-16.

MAKING A DIFFERENCE

The mission of the AAU Michigan Lady Hurrikanes is to help prepare and guide young ladies for life and career choices through sports and competition. Our goal is to help our players approach life with confidence, integrity, honor, commitment, hard work, and with a dedication to team, self, and society.

We believe that winning is not confined to sports or to a one time event. Winning is a life attitude and is a continual state of being.

The Michigan Lady Hurrikanes is an exposure and competitive club with the older girls traveling throughout Michigan, Ohio, and Indiana. We seek to develop the team's confidence and commitment to excel through hard play and first rate competition. Our young champions focus on basketball fundamentals with a commitment to do things in the right way, at the right time, all the time.

This attitude toward the game of basketball is necessary to win, but winning a game is secondary to being prepared to win against the most important challenger of all, Life. The leadership skills we help to develop and nourish through playing the greatest game will help solidify the foundation for becoming productive and respected members of society.

HISTORY

This is the inaugural season for the Lady Hurricanes. As the photo shows above the team won the JV league for the 2006 Flint Olympian summer league playing as the Michigan Mystics, which is a fine organization also dedicated to young women's basketball. However, the founder of the Lady 'Kanes--Dr. K. Joel Berry, wanted to develop a unique identity for an organization with a slightly different focus on basketball, leadership, and service.

For example, each year the Lady Hurrikanes will host their annual Basketball Tournament and Fundraiser for Breast Cancer Research with a portion of the tournament fees donated to a local health care organization. Giving back to community and society is a core value for the Michigan Hurrikane organization. The February 2007 fundraiser will benefit McClaren Health Care Corporation.
