The weekend rounds at the region six wrestling tournament saw 2 Matawan wrestlers alove on the final day but both fell short of making it to Atlantic City.

Johnny Short placed 4th in region six losing to Walters of Southern for 3rd place 5-3.  Johnny beat Walters Friday night 3-2 to advance to the semi-finals.  In the Semi-sinals, Zac Coulas of Ocean defeated Short to put him in the wrestlebacks.  In the consolation semi-finals he battered Chris Fraley pinning him in the last second.  Up 6-2 with 15 seconds left a cement job ended the career for Fraley.  Johnny finished with a school record 36 wins.

Ces Antista had a heartbreaking loss in the quarterfinals.  Up 6-2 with 3 more backpoints waiting to be awarded, Ces got called for a defensive pin.  In the wrestlebacks he won 9-8 against pinelands but fell to Wall's Frank Labruschiano 5-0.   That gave Ces a 5/6 place finish and a final record of 33-8.
