Windy conditions gave racers a great opportunity to practice some real open water paddling. After battling a mean headwind to the channel marker racers turned the mark and enjoyed a well deserved long downwind paddle. Smiles were the order of the day and everyone agreed the downwind surf was the highlight of the race. MAPA thanks everyone who traveled the highways to come play in our backyard. Our most heated contest of the race was the OC-2 battle between Matt & Liz and Rusty & Leza for a photo finish. Matt & Liz just inched out the McLains by a second.

What a outstanding day for a race. As usual Susie did a great job planning and organizing the race and she even order extra special weather. MAPA is proud to support the Lynnhaven Now organization and we hope to continue to grow the race and provide a larger donation each year. Big thanks to Bill Gassett for bringing extra toys for everyone to try out. The standup paddle boards were a big hit and we are all looking forward to a short downwind run at Buckroe.

*** We had a beautiful day at First Landing State Park paddling on the Lynnhaven River! I want to thank all the paddlers who came out to support this event. MAPA paddlers once again prove their reputation as the hardiest paddlers on the East Coast as they came out to race in rainy windy conditions once again. A small but tough group of paddlers had a good race and great eats.
