Click on the headline and register for Paddle for the Bay. MAPA will be hosting this annual event for the first time at Ocean View Pier. We are looking forward to a great race at a fantastic venue. The usual small boat race and fund raising paddle will take place at 10 AM. All recreational paddlers and racers are welcome.

As an added bonus, this year's event will also include an East Coast Outrigger Association sanctioned Six Man outrigger race. There will be three separate OC-6 races starting with the women's race at 7 AM followed by the Men's race at 9 AM and a mixed team race at 11:00.

Registration is $40/participant and includes a day of racing, race souvenirs and lunch. Additional lunch tickets are available. Whitewater News from Jim

Just wanted you to know that Phil and I finished the Rappahannock Canoe races June 8.
Phil, won his class, in the long race and the Sprint, great job for a 1st timer, I won the C1 long race, and the C2 long race with Kirk as my race partner, we also won the C2 sprint, but Kirk beat me by 3 sec. in the C1 sprint to take 1st. A side note, they pulled Phil's name out of the hat for the boat, and I tried to pass as Phil but it didn't work, I think it was the hair. He needs to stay for awards next time.  Was a fun time, but very hot and the water was low, great combo.

Results from the White Water Nationals on the French Broad River at Hot Springs NC:
For the C-2 Down River race, Kirk and I won the Masters Race; I ran this blind (No practice run)
For the C-2 Sprint race, Kirk and I placed second and I won the C-1 sprint race.
National champion with no time to run the river before the C-2 race, I don't recommend this method.
Thanks,
Jim

Monumental News
Howdy Paddlers,
MAPA did an AWESOME job at the Monumental OC-6 race this past weekend.  After getting a grand tour of most of the seedier sides of DC (my fault we got lost completely) we made it to the race site.  The boat was moved to the dock and rigged in in record time (~15 mins) with help from Kent Island's Jim and Chip and SOCC Bill Gassett.  The NCAWPA masters womens team jumped in and used the boat, they held the womens race start till our boat was rigged.
The mens team (Kyle, Brendon, Jim, Tim, Chris and Rusty) jumped in and took a quick warm up lap before the race start.   The mens team finished fourth of eight teams overall, less than two minutes behind the WCC team.  Phila finished first, Kent Island / SOCC finished second.    Then the MAPA mixed team (Leza, Margo, Jim, Mike, Adrienne, and Kyle) jumped in the boat after a couple of quick sandwiches and drinks for Kyle and Jim who pulled double duty.   The hardy souls in the MAPA mixed boat finished a very respectable third place behind Phila and WCC a good distance in front of the forth and fifth place boats (NCAWPA and Kent Island) that were in a neck and neck battle to the line.   The race was the great.  The food and music was fantastic, the facility and boat docks were great.   Risa (the race organizer) was everywhere and coordinating everything, and it all went off without a hitch.  Adrienne and Kyle had cameras and pictures will be uploaded to the website shortly.

Only a month till the next race that will be held in our own back yard.   We will talk more Wednesday night.

Buckroe 2008 Report
charlieBuckroe

Windy conditions gave racers a great opportunity to practice some real open water paddling. After battling a mean headwind to the channel marker racers turned the mark and enjoyed a well deserved long downwind paddle. Smiles were the order of the day and everyone agreed the downwind surf was the highlight of the race. MAPA thanks everyone who traveled the highways to come play in our backyard. Our most heated contest of the race was the OC-2 battle between Matt & Liz and Rusty & Leza for a photo finish. Matt & Liz just inched out the McLains by a second.
