D3 Umpire Association

MISSION STATEMENT:

The District 3 Umpire Association (D3UA) is an administrative group of experienced umpires formed between the 2007 and 2008 seasons to serve as support to District 3 as a whole. The goal of the DUA is to help develop and uphold the quality of umpiring throughout the district by providing support, training, and leadership.

District 3 is excited to offer ALL qualified Little League Umpires the opportunity to express their interest to participate in District Level Baseball (both 60' and 90' diamond) and Softball Play... This includes both All Stars and District Special Games (Jimmy Fund and Willie Sinclair). A form has been developed so that you can submit your information and availability. Click here to access the form.

Interested in becoming an umpire? Looking to become a certified umpire but don't know how? The answer is here, attend the North Central Mass Baseball Umpires Association (NCMBUA) Certification classes for umpires. For information on the clinic, click here.

TIP OF THE MONTH

PROPER FIELD POSITIONING

Working as the field umpire it is always best to be in the best position possible to see and make the call correctly. The closer you are to play is not all the greatest. Proper distance is very important as well. In little league when working behind an infielder (such as first base) you always want to be two steps behind when the infielder makes his stance when he’s prepared for a pitched ball. However maximum distance from the bag should never exceed 15’ and no closer than 6’ .

When working behind the second baseman or short stop the same distance should also be used. When the ball is in the outfield , as the field umpire you should be in the infield . As the saying goes: “When the ball is out you’re in, and when the ball is in your out” When working inside the diamond, use the working area. The working area is approximately a 10 foot circle around the pitcher’s mound. Of course this is when you’re out there alone and your partner is behind the plate. Now if you’re working with a partner that is willing to move and come out from behind the plate, then things become a bit easier. Remember to always have that discussion during your pre-game with your partner. This will make your game more enjoyable as well.

2009 UMPIRE REGISTRY IS NOW OPEN!

"Little League Baseball’s Umpire Registry offers Little League umpires a smart way to stay on top of their game. By joining the Umpire Registry, umpires immediately become part of a unique information network charged with enhancing umpire services for Little League players everywhere.

The Umpire Registry provides an opportunity for umpires to stay updated on rules and regulations, exchange ideas, and offer suggestions that will continually improve them. Umpires can access the latest information on clinics, seminars, rule interpretations, regulations updates and more.

The cost to join the Umpire Registry $25 and includes with your membership, a copy of the Little League Baseball and Softball Rules, 2009 Electronic Edition CD. The electronic rulebooks allow users to search the rules electronically, making it easier and faster for umpires to find the information they need. The CD includes 11 videos of rules that will help you understand that particular rule better by seeing the rule played out. And, just like the printed rulebooks, the E-Rules expire at the end of the year when Little League issues updated rulebooks for the coming season." Click here to register.
