Lake Zurich added four new coaches to the program for the 2008 season. Park Owens and Dave Ostmann and Andy Saam joined the boys' staff, while Julie Bryniczka will be working with the girls' program.
Andy Saam
Please welcome back Coach Andy Saam! Andy helped coach our program's first JV team in 2003. After being battle tested with our fine Lake Zurich High School students, he joined the Marines to proudly serve our country for the last four years and he valiantly served four heroic tours of duty in Iraq. He also had the opportunity to introduce the great sport of lacrosse to Iraq and his fellow Marines.
Andy will join our coaching staff as a technical goalie and defensive assistant primarily helping the Frosh/Soph team.
Welcome back Andy! And thanks for your heroic support of the USA!
Park Owens
Park is a first year lacrosse coach. He is volunteering his time to give back to a great high school and great lacrosse club program. Park grew up in New York and Connecticut and played seven years of organized lacrosse. He was a three year varsity lacrosse player in high school and member of a state championship team his junior year. Park is father to Chris Owens, freshman lacrosse player and Sarah Owens, LZHS 2007 graduate and lacrosse player. He will be serving as the head coach for the boys' frosh/soph team.
Dave Ostmann
Dave played four years as a defensive midfielder at the University of Iowa. (Fun fact: Josh Cole was Dave's coach!) Dave also spent two years coaching 8th graders for the Chantilly Park District in Virginia, and played a year for the D.C. Patriots Men's Lacrosse Club. He lives in Antioch, IL and is currently an active member of the Lake County Gladiators rugby team. Dave will be serving as an assistant coach for the boys' varsity program.
Julie Bryniczka
Julie is in her first year teaching at Lake Zurich High School. She recently graduated from University of Illinois, Champaign-Urbana. Although she didn't play lacrosse in high school, she is excited to learn the sport and glad to be working with such a great group of girls. Julie will be the frosh/soph girls' lacrosse coach.
