Wednesday, May 21 HAWKS FALL IN ROUND #2 OF 2008 CIF PLAYOFFS Long Beach, CA (May 20, 2008) – There was no doubt about the intensity and buzz in the air at the finely manicured and cavernous Blair Field in Long Beach for the second round of the 2008 CIF Division III Playoffs. Coming off a first round 9-0 victory over Rancho Alamitos with a 15 hit attack, the visiting underdog Hawks looked ready for a battle with the tough Paramount Pirates before an estimated crowd of 750. However, it was Paramount which jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the bottom of the 1st inning on a 2 out-2 RBI double against ace Jeff Rauh who pitched well enough to win the game. Paramount added to their lead with a run in the bottom of the 4th on a single and an RBI double making the score 3-0. The pace of the game moved quickly with the Hawks being shut down with no hits and two base-on-balls through four innings. The Hawks finally came alive in the top of the fifth. Kyle Harrison led off with the first of his two singles in the game. Joey Bonutto then followed with a single. Intending to advance the runners, next batter Jeff West laid down a perfect bunt down the third base line and beat the throw to first for a single loading the bases. But, the Hawks could only muster a single run on Justin White’s RBI single scoring Harrison, as the Paramount pitcher was able to escape further damage with two strikeouts and a ground out to end the inning. Neither team scored again, as the Hawks season ended in the top of the 7th on two long fly balls and a ground out, with the final score 3-1. Game totals for the Hawks: 1 run, 5 hits, 5 left on base, 2 errors. For the Hawks, the 2008 PCL Championship Season was a success with a league title and an overall record of 22-8. The CIF Playoff journey was bittersweet and will always be remembered for what could have been. CONGRATUALATIONS HAWKS FOR A GREAT 2008 SEASON!! SAN FRANCISCO GIANTS - Top 50 Prospects: #28 - Brian Anderson REPRINT FROM http://sfgiants.scout.com/2/475372.html Brian Anderson is a common name in baseball, and it'd be most recognized as a pitcher for the Kansas City Royals or a top prospect for the Chicago White Sox. But the Giants have one too, and after the closing performance he put up in Salem-Keizer, you should start thinking of him first when hearing that name. Just remember: 42-3. That's his strikeout-to-walk ratio. Yes, that's 42 strikeouts versus 3 walks. In less than 28 innings, no less. Those sorts of stats will help the memory.
