It's Not All About Winning....
Merriam Webster defines "win" as "gain in or as if in battle or contest." This definition is the one we often think of most, especially in the game of softball. However, there is another definition of "win" - "to make friendly or favorable to oneself or to one's cause." This particular definition implies that there is no contest, no battle, no game. It implies an idea, a cause, or an act. In softball we teach our daughters that it's not all about winning, but more about how they play the game. We tell them to give it their all, to do their best, and yes, they may win, but they may also lose. We tell them as long as they give their best, then that's when they really do "win."
In Portland, Oregon, Central Washington University proved that winning isn't just winning a game, it's being "friendly or favorable to one's cause." Click here to read an amazing story of sportsmanship --> CWU/WOU
