KING HIGH SCHOOL TRACK AND FIELD LETTERING POLICY

 

The King Track and Field athlete must meet the following requirements in order to earn a varsity letter.

1)     A total of 100 points must be accumulated to earn a letter

2)     The student/athlete must be in “good standing” at season’s end.

 

There are two categories: Required points (50) and Elective points. (50). Without 50 points in the required category an athlete CANNOT letter, regardless of the amount earned in the elective category.  See “code of conduct” for definition of “good standing”

 

REQUIRED POINTS (50 pts)

Earning less than 50 points in this category will result in not lettering

Attendance

25 Points:  Less than 5 days of missed practice with NO Fridays missed (0-4 missed days)

15 Points:  Less than 8 days of missed practice with only 1 Friday missed (5-7 missed days)

2 missed Friday’s will result in not lettering

5 Points:  Working in the car wash and/or King Classic

 

Paperwork and Fundraising

2 Points:   Turn in Acknowledgment Contract to Coach Corona by February 22

3 Points:   Pay bus fee, turn in receipt to Coach Corona by February 22

30 Points: $120 fundraising request by March 7

15 Points: $120 fundraising request by March 20

10 Points: $120 fundraising request by April 4

 

ELECTIVE POINTS (50 pts)

Any combination of points totaling 50 points

Varsity Competition

1 point: Scoring at the varsity level in a dual meet (max of one point per meet x 8 meets)

2 points: Competing at the varsity level at League Finals

2 points: Competing at the varsity level in a varsity invitational

3 points: Competing at the varsity level in the Inland Empire Championships

4 points: Competing in the Arcadia Invitational

3 points: Earning or improving upon a “Top Five” event list

10 Points: Competing in CIF Prelims

15 Points: Competing in CIF Finals

20 Points: Competing in CIF Masters Meet

30 Points: Competing in CIF State Championships

3 Points: Set a new event school record (including relays) in the month of March

5 Points: Set a new event school record (including relays) in the month of April

7 Points: Set a new event school record (including relays) in the month of May

Longevity in King Track and Field

10 Points: Second year of King Track participation

20 Points: Third year of King Track participation

30 Points: Fourth year of King Track participation

 

Miscellaneous

5 Points: Parent attendance at January through May booster club meetings (1 pt per meeting-5 meetings)

3 Points: Student work volunteer at King Track Classic (Must have already worked the car wash)

3 Points: Line Assistants

5 Points: Team Captains

6 Points: Spring Break practice (2 points per day, three days of practice)

 

 

Note: The coaching staff reserves the right to award or withhold a letter from any athlete for extenuating circumstances, regardless of points earned.

 

Note: Failure to compete in CIF/Post Season (if qualified) will disqualify an athlete from “good standing”
