  Welcome

Welcome to the official website of the Hot Springs Wild Things!

The Wild Things are an Under-14 Girls Soccer Team associated with the Hot Springs Soccer Association, which is located in Hot Springs, Arkansas. We belong to the Arkansas State Soccer Association and schedule our games through the Central Arkansas Soccer Association .

The Wild Things were the U-11 State Champions, the U-12 Runner up, the U-13 State Champions and were the U-14 Runner up this year. The Wild Things have played in the championship game at the State Cup each of the last 4 years, which is a feat that few other teams can match.

The Wild Things are a wonderful group of extremely talented young ladies, and work hard at what they do. With many diverse interests, they all have 1 common bond, which is the love of soccer. Several of our former teammates have gone on to the next level of soccer, but the team remains extremely successful year after year.

This site is always under development and modification, and we would appreciate your comments and suggestions. The Wild Things cordially invite you to follow our progress through our website as we learn the "beautiful game"!

Please sign our guestbook. We would like to hear from everyone who surfs through our homepage.

Thanks for visiting our site!

Wild Things - Lakeside High School Players
Spring 2005-3
Coach Back and her Freshmen!
Sorry that the site hasn't been updated in a while, but the Wild Things are still alive and well. The girls are growing up way too fast, and are beginning their junior year. There are now 17 current or former Wild Things (10 of them start) on the Varsity roster.

State Cup Report
Sometimes you have to watch what you wish for. At the State Cup this year, the girls were excited to see that the forecast included rain on Saturday, and rain it did. Our first game Saturday was against Harrison, and a back and forth game ended in a 0-0 tie. Saturday evening, against Searcy, the Wild Things walked away with a 2-0 win on one of the coldest, wettest, windiest days we have ever played soccer in. We've played in snow and with ice on the field, but I've never been colder after a game.

Sunday morning, our game against Greenbriar was a chance for revenge after they best us at the Winrock tournament. We played well, and controlled most of the game, but couldn't put one in the net, and the game ended 0-0. However, this time we had the tiebreaker advantage over Greenbriar, and we advanced to the finals against Harrison.

The final game was a spirited affair, and after a scoreless first half, Harrison had a ball roll off the outstretched hands of Elizabeth and into the goal. It looked like slow motion, but we were donw 1-0 with 20 minutes left in the game. The Wild Things put on an impressive performance, and we hit the post once and the crossbar 3 different times in a 10 minute span. The game ended with the Wild Things on the short end of the 1-0 score. It just wasn't our day.

Each of you should hold your head high, you did exactly what we asked you to do, leave everything you had out on the field. As I thought back over the game, there isn't 1 thing I would change--we gave it our absolute best shot. I know how badly you wanted to win, but consider that Harrison wanted to win just as badly as you did. They earned their championship and we should congratulate them.

We had a great season, and continued to grow as players and as people. I am proud of each and every one of you, and consider it a great honor to coach you.

Have a great summer, and we will go back at it in the fall.

Winrock 2
Wild Things Tournament Report
Winrock 1
Despite shutting out all 4 opponents we faced, the Wild Things had to swallow real, real hard and accept the 2nd place trophy at the Winrock Tournament this past weekend. The team defeated Riverdale 2-0, Jacksonville 3-0, Conway 2-0 and tied Greenbriar 0-0. These 4 games left us tied with Greenbriar with 10 tournament points, and Greenbriar, who outscored Riverdale by 3 goals, got the nod as tournament champs. This was the only tie breaker that Greenbriar won, as the Wild Things had 3 shutouts to their 2 and allowed 0 goals to their 1. Unfortunately for us, the goal differential was the 2nd (and deciding) tie breaker.

Although we knew going into the game Sunday afternoon that we had to win, it was disappointing that Greenbriar chose to play for a tie in our game in order to "win" the tournament.

Nevertheless, the Wild Things played better in each game of the tournament, and their effort Sunday afternoon was magnificent. Although we started slowly on Saturday, we shook it off and finished that game strongly. I couldn't be more proud of the way the whole team played the entire weekend. We controlled most of the Greenbriar game, had several good scoring chances, and outshot our opponent by a large margin.

Lifetime Tournament Update
Since the Fall of 1998, the Wild Things have played in a total of 23 different tournaments. Their hard work, skill and determination have resulted in a pretty impressive record. Excluding the 3 classic tournaments they entered (you get better by playing better teams), they have 8 championships, 6 second place and 3 third place finishes, and did not advance in 3 of those tournaments.

Their record since the Fall of 2000 is even more impressive: First or second in 12 out of 13 tournaments (7 first place and 5 second).

Congratulations Wild Things, you have set the bar pretty high for girls’ recreational soccer in Arkansas. The makeup of the team changes from year to year, but you have kept up a tradition of success that will hopefully follow you throughout your lives. It’s a pleasure to watch you learn to play this beautiful game. Keep up the hard work as you make the transition to High School soccer next year.
