HAWKS TO PLAY ONE ON SATURDAY, TWO ON SUNDAY
A wet field at Grapevine High has set the annual Alliance Umpires Fall Tournament back a bit. Hebron was supposed to play two games on Saturday, but will now play just one game at 1 p.m.
The Hawks will play two on Sunday, with the first game set for a 1 p.m. start.
These changes were determined by the tournament directors late Friday night.

| Ball Chasers Dream: The 40-foot netting at Hawk Field is new.
|
NEW LOOK FOR A NEW SEASON
With the 2008 season set to kick off Thursday (if the rain stays away), Hawk Field has been going through some last-minute cosmetic changes.
The extreme "H" behind home plate was added Tuesday afternoon, following the addition of the 40-foot-high netting that extends from dugout to dugout and installed by the district.
The "H" on the field will require touch-up paint every three weeks, but sure adds dimension to the area between home plate and the backstop net. Thanks to Frankie Bravenec, Terry Reed, Rand Simkins, Gary McCarver and Mike Payne for painting the "H" - and thanks to Hebron football for the use of the stencil.
More additions to Hawk Field this month: The new sound system is in place for the start of the season as well. Now it's just time to play ball.

Hawks Lend a Hand in Miracle League

| Brandon Harris runs to first with his "buddy."

Several Hebron players spent a few hours October 27 working with kids in the Miracle League of Frisco baseball - a league for special needs children. The Hawks worked as "buddies" helping the kids hit at the plate, run the bases or just listen to what they had to say.
According to the Miracle League of Frisco website (www.friscomiracleleague.org), the league is "designed to provide an avenue for children to enjoy youth sports in a fun, safe and rewarding environment."
Thanks to all the players, coaches and parents who participated and attended the event. What a great experience for all.
(Thanks to Jason January who provided pictures of the event, some of which can be viewed in the PHOTO gallery)
2007 Hebron Baseball: The Year of the Home Run
While there have been some home runs hit during the summer league - Blake Denton and Ben Neyen are among the latest - last season, the Hebron Baseball teams set a new school single-season home run record, slugging 24 round-trippers. The list of home runs can be found in the menu to the left. A few notes about that record-breaking season:
* There were seven players to hit multiple home runs during the season: Varsity - Jon Bartlotti (3); Ryan Kelley (2); Jesse Payne (2); Ryan Payne (2); Jon Velez (2) JV - Landon Hill (2); Dustin Tarpley (4)
* Dustin Tarpley did not hit his first until the final three weeks of the regular season, but then went on a tear, slugging four in four games!
* In the course of 24 hours, the varsity slugged four in four different games in the Rawlings Lake Cities Classic Feb. 23 (Kegan Stephens, Jon Velez) and Feb. 24 (Jon Bartlotti, Jesse Payne)
* There were two Grand-Slams hit, both by varsity: Jon Velez vs. Arlington Lamar and Patrick Kocher vs. Newman Smith. Both were slugged at Hebron.
* There were six 3-run home runs hit
* Twice Hebron batters slugged home runs in the same game: Jon Bartlotti and Jesse Payne vs. Coppell, March 27; Ryan Payne and Jon Velez (back-to-back) vs. Plano, April 21
* Jon McManemin came as close as possible to making the HR list with a blast at Flower Mound HS that just curved foul. Plenty of distance, but just to the right of the pole.
What will the 2008 season bring? _____________________________________________________________________
