HEAT MATCH 3-NIL FORFEIT VS TAFC UNITED

The HEAT were declared the winner over the TAFC VA United by forfeit on a rainy Sunday afternoon.  The match was scheduled to begin at 4:30, and TAFC did not have the required 7 players in uniform.  The referee began the 15 minute grace period, however at 4:45 TAFC still did not have 7 players on the pitch.  The referee blew his whistle, and called the game a 3-nil forfeit in favor of The HEAT.

Next week The HEAT take on the DCST Red Devils at Long Park.  The match begins at 2:30 on turf field 2A.

SYC RED TIGERS TAKE DOWN HEAT

The HEAT were defeated today by the SYC Red Tigers 6-2.  The HEAT were competitive throughout the first half, but SYC dominated the second half of the match.

The teams traded goals in the first half, the offense's dominating.  The half ended with the Red Tigers on top, 3-2.

The second half was all SYC, scoring three goals.  The HEAT offense was stymied by the Tiger defenders, and they could not find the net.  The match ended with SYC on top, 6-2.

The HEAT congratulate SYC on their victory.

Next week The HEAT will take on TAFC United at Long Park.  Come out and see your HEAT!!!!!!!!!!!

Saturday, May 3
HEAT STAGE SECOND HALF COMEBACK TO DEFEAT RESTON CELTIC

Finding themselves down 1-nil at the half, The HEAT rallied to score two goals in the second half and defeated The Reston Celtic 2-1.  The match featured strong defensive play by both clubs.

The Celtic scored at the ten minute mark of the first half, breaking thru the middle of The HEAT defense and finding the corner of the net.  The HEAT were unable to get their offense untracked, and the half ended with the Celtic on top 1-nil.

The HEAT scored early in the second half, a forward putting his head on a perfectly placed corner kick, knotting the score at 1-1.  The teams continued to play strong defense, until the thirty-two minute mark, when a well placed pass put a HEAT wing in perfect position to breakaway to the goal and score.  The HEAT defenders took care of the rest, and the match ended with The HEAT on top, 2-1.

The HEAT congratulate Reston for their top notch effort during the match.

Next week The HEAT take on the SYC Red Tigers.  Come out and cheer on YOUR HEAT!!!

TIME AND LOCATION FOR WEDNESDAY PRACTICE'S WILL CHANGE

Effective this Wednesday (04/30), The HEAT practice time and field location for Wednesday's will change. The team will practice at Long Park, on Turf Field #1, from 5:00pm to 6:30pm. This change will remain effective through the remainder of the Spring Season.

The field conditions at Mountain View are less than desirable and pose more of a risk of injury to players, especially if they are wet. Because of this, the coaches have asked VSA if they could accommodate our team and find another practice option for the team.

If you have questions, please contact Coach Jeff.

HEAT DEFEAT PWSI FOR THIRD STRAIGHT NCSL WIN

The HEAT's successful NCSL inaugural season continued today with a 3-1 victory over PWSI Courage White.

Both clubs played excellent defense throughout the first half, the only goal coming when a Courage defender sent the ball back to his keeper, however with typical HEAT hustle, a HEAT forward got to the ball first just outside the eighteen and tapped it in for a 1-nil lead at the 27:30 minute mark.

When the second half began, The HEAT offense began to find itself.  At the 5:38 mark a HEAT forward sent a cross in front of the net from the right side, which another HEAT forward put past the keeper for a 2-nil lead.  Ten minutes later, the HEAT moved the ball quickly down the pitch, sending a laser past the Courage keeper to increase the margin to 3-nil.

PWSI struck back at the 18:38 mark.  The center mid broke free, carried the ball to the front of the goal, and beat the HEAT keeper on the breakaway.  The HEAT defense took over after that, stifling the Courage offense.  The match ended with The HEAT on top, 3-1.

The HEAT would like to acknowledge the Courage's competitive spirit.

Next weekend, The HEAT have two matches scheduled.  On Saturday, 5/3 there will be a make up match against the Reston Celtic .  It is at Lake Fairfax Park, field 7B, at 6:00.  On Sunday, 5/4, The HEAT will take on the SYC Red Tigers at Hooes Road Park, field 2 at 3:00.

Come out and cheer for THE HEAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

HEAT FALL TO TEAM AMERICA IN STATE CUP

The HEAT were defeated by Team America Stripes 8-3 in State Cup tournament play today.  The match was hard fought, with physical play on each side.

The HEAT scored first, scooting the ball past the Stripes keeper.  However, Team America struck back less than a minute later with a shot to the left of the HEAT keeper.  Each team found the net again, and the first half came to a close with the score knotted at 2-2.

The teams traded goals early in the second half, and the game remained 3-3 until Team America struck for another goal 24 minutes into the half.  The momentum took a sudden turn for the Stripes, and they scored an additional 4 goals over the last five minutes of the match.

The final score was not indicative of how tense the match was, as The HEAT gave the NCSL Division 1 club all it could handle.

The HEAT congratulate Team America on their victory, and wish them luck on their journey thru the State Cup.

HEAT GET SECOND NCSL VICTORY

The HEAT defeated ASA Arsenal 6-nil at Long Park today, as the offense continued to assert itself, creating scoring chances and taking advantage of them.

Two first half goals were the result of crisp passing and ball movement.  The HEAT offense controlled the ball, keeping the Arsenal on the defensive most of the first half.  The Arsenal keeper made some fine saves, however The HEAT's persistence finally got the better of him.

The second half saw The HEAT continue their offensive surge.  The scoring was spread out, as 4 different HEAT players found the net.  Opportunities for Arsenal were sparse, as The HEAT forwards kept the ball on the Arsenal side of the field throughout the match.  When Arsenal did mount an offensive attack, The HEAT defense turned them back with aggressive, attacking play.

The HEAT would like to thank ASA and recognize their sportsmanship during the match.

Next week, The HEAT travel to Reston to take on the Reston Celtic.  The match is Sunday, April 20th, 12:00, at Quartermaster field.  See the field location page for directions.

HEAT OPEN NCSL SEASON WITH A VICTORY

The HEAT defeated the NVSC Revolution 3-nil today in their first NCSL match of the spring season.  The game featured spectacular play by The HEAT keeper, and a hustling, opportunistic offense taking advantage of their opportunities to score.

The Revolution had several chances to score in the first half, however The HEAT keeper made several diving saves, keeping NVSC at bay.  At the 28:48 minute mark of the first half, The HEAT drew first blood, a HEAT forward blasting a shot that ripped thru the Revolution keepers gloved hands to score the first goal of the match.  The half ended with The HEAT clinging to a 1-nil lead.

The second half featured more outstanding HEAT keeper play, and NVSC was unable to take advantage of scoring opportunities.  Early in the half, the Revolution keeper was out of the goal trying to recover a rebound, but The HEAT hustled to the ball first and put it into the twine for their second goal of the match.  At the 16:50 mark, the Revolution keeper was out of the goal again attempting to recover a loose ball, but HEAT hustle got to the ball first again and a HEAT forward tapped the ball into the goal to move the lead to 3-nil.

When the match ended, the final score was 3-nil, and the entire HEAT squad rushed the field, mobbing and piling on their keeper to celebrate his tremendous effort.

The HEAT express their appreciation for the fine sportsmanship shown by the Revolution.

The HEAT will take to the pitch again next Sunday, April 13th at 12:00 against the ASA Arsenal '95 Premier.  The match is at Long Park, field 9.  The HEAT will wear their blue uniforms.  Come out and support The HEAT!!!

HEAT TAKE 2 OF 3 AT JEFFERSON CUP

Shaking off a disappointing first game loss, The HEAT had a collective gut check and won their next two games at the Jefferson Cup.

In the first match against Charlotte SC Liverpool, The HEAT were down 2-nil in the first two minutes, but found a way to stay competitive.  The half found the boys trailing 4-2.  The teams traded goals early in the second half, and The HEAT kept the game close, creating several opportunites to score, but they did not cash in.  The game remained close until the momentum turned Charlotte's way, and the Liverpool scored a barrage of goals in the last 5 minutes to secure the final 9-3 margin.

Despite the shock of a loss such as this, The HEAT came out against Chesterfield United SC in match two with fire in their eyes.  Scoring two goals in the first half, including a header off a soaring corner kick, The HEAT found their game.  The second half was also all HEAT, as the defense continued to assert itself and continuously won the ball and kept the forwards off The HEAT keeper.  As the match ended, The HEAT won 3-1.

The third match against The Richmond Strikers Elite was a bruising affair.  The Strikers were a big, physical squad, and bodies were flying about the pitch throuoghout the game.  The HEAT never backed down, the offense continuing to attack and the defense standing up to the Strikers onslaught.  The teams traded goals, and the match was tied going into the last minute of play.  It all came down to a HEAT forward, fighting his way thru three defenders, scoring the winning goal just as the clock ran out.  Jubilant HEAT players hugged each other and jumped for joy as their fans ran onto the pitch to congratulate them on the 2-1 victory.

HEAT FIGHT WIND, RAIN, COLD, AND OPPONENTS IN CMSSL TOURNAMENT

Battling the weather as well as their opponents, The HEAT came up just short at the CMSSL tournament.

Conditions were extreme, as heavy rain, 30 to 40 mph winds, and temperatures in the low 40's battered the lads during the matches.  The HEAT defeated the MSC United Classic 8-nil, and squeaked by the Ashburn ASC Fire, 1-nil.  However, a goal scored as the clock ticked down to zero put The HEAT on the losing end of a 3-2 score to eventual tournament champion Olney BGC Celtic.  The HEAT fought to a 2-2 draw with Waldorf SC Azzuri in the last match of the tournament, but it was not enough.

The team showed determination and grit in playing through such extreme conditions against quality opponents.

HUNT COUNTRY IS HEAT COUNTRY AS THE HEAT TAKE THE TITLE

The HEAT successfully defended their 2006 Hunt Country Classic title, sweeping thru four games to win the championship trophy.  Playing up in age against U13 clubs, and going 11v11 for the first time, the lads from VSA were fearless and remarkably poised.

Saturday Game 1

HEAT 6    Alexandria Storm 2

The HEAT drew first blood, scoring early when a shot from the right wing ricocheted off a Storm defender into the net.  One minute later, the Storm evened the score as a forward popped a shot  high over The HEAT keeper's head.  The Storm had a golden opportunity to take the lead and the momentum at the six minute mark, having been awarded a penalty kick.  But The HEAT keeper stopped the kick, and it was all HEAT after that.  The HEAT scored three more goals in the first half, and added two more in the second to cement a 6-2 victory.

Saturday Game 2

HEAT 10   Reston Eagles 2

It was all HEAT in this match.  The HEAT scored eight times in the first half, and the defense bottled up the Eagles attack.

Sunday Semifinal Game

HEAT 2    Loudoun 94 Silver 1

Moving on to the semifinals on Sunday, The HEAT were matched up against the Silver.  This time, it was The HEAT defense stepping up their game to thwart an opponent.  Neither team could find their offense in the first half.  However, as they do so well, HEAT hustle won the ball in a scramble in front of the Loudoun net,  putting it past the keeper at the seventeen minute mark to take a 1-nil lead.  The defensive struggle continued, and the half ended with The HEAT clinging to the lead.

Both teams continued their excellent defensive play in the second half.  The Silver finally broke thru at the seventeen minute mark, putting the ball past The HEAT keeper in the upper left corner of the net.  With the match knotted at 1-1, The HEAT offense found their rhythm, and a HEAT wing put the ball high over the Loudoun keeper to regain the lead, 2-1.  The HEAT defense took over, and held Loudoun scoreless for the remainder of the match.

Sunday

CHAMPIONSHIP MATCH

HEAT 1    Northern Steel 0

Despite excellent ball movement and crossing by Northern Steel, The HEAT defense kept them at bay, always finding a way to disrupt a shot or a cross in front of the net.  Never intimidated by their older and bigger opponents, The HEAT defense stayed with their marks, and helped their keeper pitch a marvelous shutout.

The only goal was scored in the first half, as a HEAT wing outran the Steel defense, found an opening just inside the 18, and lofted the ball over the keeper for what turned out to be the game and tournament winning goal.

The HEAT would like to acknowledge how well FCSC conducted the tournament, and thank them for their hospitality.  The HEAT also tip their caps to all their opponents for their enthusiastic effort.

Congratulations to The 2007 U13 Boys 11v11 Hunt Country Classic Tournament Champions, GO HEAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

HEAT ARE MEAD CUP TOURNAMENT CHAMPIONS!!!!

Over Labor Day weekend, The HEAT travelled to the largest soccer tournament in the Midwest and brought the championship trophy home to Virginia.  Winning five matches and losing none against the best U12 Boys teams the Midwest had to offer, The HEAT swept thru the tournament with an explosive offense and an unyielding defense.  The lads poise and intensity during the tournament was remarkable, showing improvement in each successive match.

Game One Summary

HEAT 3    FC Pride '96 White 1

The HEAT took the lead in the first half with a goal at the nine minute mark.  A HEAT forward broke free in front of the goal, and nailed a shot to the left of the keeper.  The HEAT defense kept the Pride offense at bay, and the half ended with The HEAT on top, 1-nil.

The teams traded goals early in the second half, as The HEAT converted on a penalty kick, and The Pride answered with a shot from the right of the goal that trickled past the keeper.  The HEAT defense smothered the Pride offense for the rest of the match, and The HEAT found the net again with a shot from the left side that bounced over the Pride keeper.  The match ended with The HEAT on top, 3-1.

Game Two Summary

HEAT 3    SCSA Storm 0

The HEAT defense was the story of this game, denying The Storm offense scoring opportunities time and again.  The Storm defense kept up as they shut The HEAT offense down in the first half.  The score was tied at nil as the teams trudged off at the midpoint.

The HEAT offense began to click in the second half, scoring two goals, and in a scramble around the net, a Storm defender headed the ball into his own net.  The HEAT came out on top, 3-nil.

Game Three Summary

HEAT 5    Ann Arbor Arsenal Premier 0

The HEAT offense was clicking as they scored twice in the first half, and added three more goals in the second half.  Continuously on the attack, HEAT forwards found the middle wide open time after time for shots on goal.  The HEAT defense continued their strong play, shutting out The Arsenal.

Game Four Summary

HEAT 7    Jessamine Storm 1

Continuing the offensive blitz, The HEAT scored six times in the first half to overwhelm The Storm.  The defense was stellar again,  smothering The Storm forwards whenever they crossed midfield.

Championship Game

HEAT 4    Hoosier Futbol Club 95/96 White 1

Showing offensive precision and defensive prowess, The HEAT brought their A+ game to the championship match.  Three goals in the first half created a HEAT momentum that could not be contained.  Down 3-nil as the second half began, The White continued to press for opportunities, and at the eighteen minute mark, they found the net, cutting the margin to 3-1.  However, less than a minute later, The HEAT scored again on a laser from midfield that stretched their lead to 4-1.  The HEAT defense took over after the score, and the championship trophies were secured as the lads triumphed 4-1.

The HEAT salute the effort and determination of all of their opponents in the tournament.  The teams are to be commended for their spirit and sportsmanship.  The HEAT also thank the Mead Cup for putting on an excellent tournament.  The HEAT look forward to competing next year to defend their title.

CONGRATULATIONS HEAT!!!!!!!!
