Higgs Visits HB Practice
HB Red Hall of Famer and current member ob NY Juggernaut of the National Pro Fastpitch League Ali Higgs worked out with the HB Red on September 25. After practice, Ali and the HB Red pitchers worked with the 10U HB pitchers.

Sacramento Sunbirds' catcher Jaime Wohlbach gave a catching clinic on January 24. The Sunbirds are one of 8 teams in the new Pro Fastpitch League which begins play in June.

2000 PONY Nationals
The Heartbreakers finished the season with an outstanding performance in the PONY Nationals. In pool play, the team won 2 out of 3 games including a forfeit win. Below are game summaries:
Heartbreakers 1 - Absolute 0
Amy Burdette pitched a 2-hitter and struck out 10 batters in an 8-inning victory. Lisa Abbamonte had 2 hits and Liz Hammel, Bri Kozak, and Burdette had the other hits. Alison Higgs scored the winning run a wild pitch in the first tie-breaker inning.
Heartbreakers 5 - Carolina Dynamites 8
After trailing 7-1 after 4 innings, the Heartbreakers rallied to with a 4-run 5th inning but lost a rain-soaked contest. Alison Higgs hit a bases loaded double to knock in 3 runs to lead the offense. Higgs had 2 hits while Katie Davis and Hammel had one hit apiece.
In the double elimination round, the Heartbreakers went undefeated to qualify for championship play. Below are game summaries from the double elimination play:
Heartbreakers 3 - Freehold Tornadoes (NJ) 0
Burdette pitched a 3-hitter and struck out 14 batters in tossing a shutout. Davis and Hammel had 2 hits while Burdette, Higgs, and Sarah Ramsburg added one hit apiece.
Heartbreakers Red 6 - Heartbreakers White 2
The Heartbreakers Red beat our sister team as Candy Warden pitched a 2 hitter and struck out 9 batters. Warden, Higgs, and Davis had 3 hits apiece and Megan Enders had 2 hits to lead the offense. Bethany Seyler, Kozak, Burdette, and Janet Paterson each added a single hit.
Heartbreakers Red 2 - Middletown Magic (PA) 1
Burdette tossed a 6-hitter with 3 strikeouts in another extra inning victory. Lisa Abbamonte and Hammel had 2 hits and Davis, Burdette, Higgs, Enders, and Jen Vantucci added the rest of the hits to the attack. Abbamonte had a crucial play in the top of the 8th as she gunned down the go-ahead run at the plate with a perfect throw and great tag by Paterson. Vantucci, who had knocked in the tying run in the 4 inning, scored the winning run in the bottom of the 8th on a 2-out single by Hammel. The win put the Heartbreakers in the bracket championship game.
Heartbreakers 6 - Middletown Magic 1
In a rematch of Friday night's thriller, Alison Higgs pitched a 5 hitter and struck out 11 batters to lead the Heartbreakers to the championship round. Paterson had 4 hits and Davis, Abbamonte, Hammel, and Kozak added 2 hits apiece. Burdette and Enders each added single hits to finish the offensive outburst.
Eight of the 68 teams qualified for the Championship Round of play with 1st through 8th place to be determined. The final games went as follows:
Heartbreakers 3 - Redbirds (VA) 1
Higgs pitched another gem as she held a powerful Redbirds lineup to 3 hits and struck out 3 batters. All the offense she needed was provided by the first 3 batters in the order as Davis led off with a double followed by a bunt single by Abbamonte followed by a booming 2-run double by Hammel. Enders knocked in an insurance run in the 4th inning. Davis had 2 hits and Abbamonte, Hammel, Burdette, Enders and Kozak had the other hits.
Heartbreakers 5 - Bay State Cardinals (MA) 1
In the tournament semi-finals, the team rallied from a 1-0 deficit to score 5 runs in the 6th inning to beat a strong Cardinals team. Warden fired a 6-hitter and struck out 1 batter in a phenomenal performance. Kozak had 3 hits including a bases loaded 3-run triple to pace the offense. Paterson and Davis added 2 hits and Abbamonte, Hammel, Burdette, and Ramsburg added hits also.
Heartbreakers 0 - Florida Lady Gators 1
In a hard fought championship game, the Gators scratched out a 1-0 victory and a great game. Burdette stymied the Gators on 4 hits and one unearned run as she struck out 4 batters. Davis, Paterson, Burdette, Kozak, and Higgs had the Heartbreakers hits.
