This is home of the Grand Valley Amateur Hockey Association. We are a youth hockey organization whose objective is to promote an instructional and recreational approach to the game of hockey. We offer programs for Learn To Play, Cross-Ice, "Fun"damental, House and Travel League level of play. Our home ice is the Georgetown Ice Arena. For some of us (parents) the end of the summer does not come soon enough, but for others (kids) it seems as though summer just began.  The good news is that whether your a parent or a player, we have the great game of hockey to look forward to.  Believe it or not, the 2008 - 2009 season is less than a month away.  That means it's time to pull out that equipment and check to see what fits and what suddenly is now 2 sizes to small.  It's amazing how much these players grow in just a few months.  So, plug your nose,  sort through those bags, locate that missing elbow pad, try to squeeze those feet into the skates for one more year and get ready for some hockey.

All registered players should have received a packet of information in the mail with all the details pertaining to the first week of the season.  This we are doing things a little different.  The most notable is that we will begin the first week of the season with a series of conditioning skates for all ages.  Please refer to the calendar for dates and times. Our evaluation skates will be conducted the following week (Sept 8 - 12).  The drafts will be conducted following the evals with teams identified at the Player/Parent Orientation meeting on Sunday, Sept 14th. The specific dates and times for the evaluations will be distributed during the first week of conditioning skates. Evals will consist of skill testing and full-ice and/or small games. The skill testing will follow the guidlines set by the Canada National Testing Handbook.

Finally, with the registrations that we've received so far the projected number of teams only have a limited number of spots available and in some cases are closed with waiting lists. GVAHA will be hosting another Used Equipment Sale for the 2008 - 2009 season.  Traditionally our Evaluation Skates are conducted the first week of the season, but this year they will be conducted the second week (Sept 8 - 12).  As a result our sale will also be moved to the same week.  Please see the Flyer for details about equipment drop off, sale and pick up dates and times.  If you have any question, please call Gene Altena (667-1876).

Amy Veltema (Fundraising Director) will be passing out order forms and information during the first week of practice (Sept 2 – 5).  Orders will be due during the Parent/Player Orientation Meeting, Sept 14th, 2 - 4 PM.  Players will earn $5.00 toward their account for each item sold.  Top seller will receive 4 tickets to the Red Wings pre-season game on October 5th.

Amy Veltema (Fundraising Director) will be passing out order forms and information during the first week of practice (Sept 2 – 5).  Orders will be due during the Parent/Player Orientation Meeting, Sept 14th, 2 - 4 PM.  Each book sells for $20.00.  Players will earn $10.00 toward their account for each book sold.

- selling price $1.00 each

- profit per box sold = $25

These are a great fundraiser to take to work and set out to sell or in our neighborhood. Everyone loves a worlds finest candy bar!!  Additional ideas are to give a box to a family member or friend and have them sell for you at their place of employment or at their business.

**** You must prepay for each box of candy bars that you would like to sell. Your check will be held for 3 weeks prior to cashing so that you can deposit the money from the sales to offset your check. $25.00, per box sold, will be credited to your players account and the additional $25 will be for payment of the candy. Checks should be made to GVAHA.

Candy bars will be available at the arena Sept 2nd, 3rd, and 4th during evening practice.
