The Good Shepherd Academy Basketball Program "The commitment and desire to succeed is useless without the commitment and desire to practice and prepare in the Gym as well as the Classroom!" Nestled on the west side of Irvington, NJ, on the corner of Nesbit Terrace and Saint Paul's Drive, is where the building stands and dreams live. Our developmental basketball program has existed in the community for more than 18 years. Housed in the tiny confines of Callahan Hall, the Eagles have had a rich tradition in middle school basketball. Eagle’s basketball has produced many great High school and College basketball players, a winning tradition that continues even today. Formerly, Saint Paul the Apostle School, the school has been a good alternative for many Irvington and Newark families. The majority of St. Paul’s parents wanted something better than their hometown school systems. What they get in this building, is a smaller and safer learning environment. With the rash Catholic parish and school closings in North Jersey in 2005, the Archdiocese of Newark chose to merge St. Paul's with Immaculate Heart of Mary of Maplewood. Good Shepherd Academy was founded. Though the name has changed, the mission is still the same. This program is designed to develop student-athletes, for high school level basketball, with the emphasis on a hard work ethic, commitment, education, discipline and fair team play. Teams compete on the 3rd-4th, 5th-6th and 7th-8th level. A new addition to the program this year is the Biddy Development team, for kid’s grades kindergarten to second. The GSA Eagles basketball coaches believe in providing a fair place for learning and the promise an instructional environment to achieve the highest level of team and individual development. Currently, we are looking to extend the program into the summer with Project Team Upstart. The GSA Eagles play in the Grammar Independent League (G.I.L.) For info contact us at: gsaeagles@hotmail.com
