2008 Burrito Bingo - THANK YOU FOR A GREAT EVENING!!
 | | | The Williamsons At Their 1st Burrito Bingo |
| |
Golden Eagle Pony Baseball's annual fundraiser was held on March 8th at the "Goose." There were plenty of smiles and plenty of big winners. After a few kegs of beer and about 20 games of bingo, the folks were still hesitant to leave.
Special thanks to the 13U Loomis Pirates who kicked in and served delicious Mexican food as well as helping in many other ways. This allowed many of the adults to take care of more pressing duties...
Barry Larson did a great job on the microphone as well; Barry also designed the very original T-shirts GEPB board members were wearing this evening. Nancy Pomeroy gets credit for wearing the only fitted version.

GEPB 'WRAPS UP' FALL SEASON

9-12 Yr Old League Featured 6 Teams From Loomis & Lincoln.
Teams Are Designated By Color Instead of Name
"The 2007 Fall Season was wonderful; not a bad Sunday (weather wise) in the whole season. It was very relaxing to go watch the games each week. There were 5 Loomis teams and a Lincoln team, and other than Lincoln having trouble fielding a full team towards the end of the season, very few kids were missing each week. It proved a good chance for the kids to face a lot of different pitching, for the new Bronco players to pitch from the back rubber, and for the new Mustang kids to see what it's like in the bigs.
Much thanks to Brad Chambers for once again heading up the whole Fall Season - everything went very smooth. Also, thanks to Romi Glynn and her family for manning the concession stand - they didn't even have a player playing (well, until the last game when Travis covered for Eli Mower who may have broken his foot right before the game started). Thanks also to all the coaches and coach assistants; we couldn't have had the season without them." (K Murillo)
Pony Division FOOTHILL EAGLES Fall Team
14U Team Sport 'Ice-Cream Men' Uniforms
Just in time for basketball season, the Foothill Eagles GEPB-14U team has just "wrapped up" it's 2007 Fall/Winter Season. The Eagles just finished a night league at Westwood Park in Citrus Heights as well as having played multiple games in Davis and Lincoln. Though the 'Eagles' fall team changed pitchers virtually every inning or two, and players rotated into different defensive positions regularly, and all players were in the batting order, the Foothill Eagles record currently stands at 6-3. The Eagles lost a close one last Saturday morning in Davis giving up a 'walk off piece' in the last half of the last inning. A throw that got away rolled directly into the visitor's dugout giving each runner two bases (Davis rules) and turning a 'reached on error' into a base clearing "triple" to lose the game..... fall season can get exciting.
The Foothill Eagles tried something new by going with an all white theme for it's off-season (Fall/ Winter) uniforms. The kids looked sharp out there while intimidating many opposing teams.
Overall, the Foothill Eagles have outscored their opponents 61-36 and out hit their opponents 58-41. The Eagles have also stolen 70 bases with only 4 caught stealing. However the strength of the team is clearly it's pitching staff. Lead by Tucker Feyder and James Spears (0.68 and 0.78 E.R.A. respectively), 6 pitchers have pitched virtually the same amount of innings compiling a very impressive 2.36 team E.R.A.
What a great group of dedicated players.
Nice job GEPB!

G.E. MUSTANG ALL-STARS UPSET ELK GROVE FOR SECTION TITLE!
 | | | 2007 Section Champs - Mustang Division |

Golden Eagle's Mustang All-Star Team Comes Back To Beat Elk Grove 7-6 With Last Inning Heroics.
Bryce Beauchamp and Brett Mack picked up the Golden Eagle Mustang all-star team and carried them to a section championship victory Tuesday evening at Arcade school. Beauchamp hit a 3 run double to erase a 2 run deficit in the 6th inning. Bryce then took the mound to hold down Elk Grove's power hitting attack for three more outs. Brett Mack made the first out with a diving, rolling catch along the 3rd base line that even had Elk Grove fans applauding. Elk Grove managed to get the tying run in scoring position with only one out in the bottom of the 6th, but Bryce Beauchamp once again saved the day snagging a liner up the middle, wheeling around and firing to second base for the double play to end the championship game: Golden Eagle 7, Elk Grove 6. That was an unbelievable finish from a very well rounded Golden Eagle all-star team. Brett Mack had started the game on the mound for Golden Eagle pitching the first four innings and holding a VERY powerful Elk Grove team down. Every game there seems to be someone else that steps up. What a team!
Special recognition goes out to the coaching staff of this all-star team who not only effectively prepared these boys for battle, but also managed the boys through the many obstacles that can distract 9 & 10 yr old ball players during a very nervous, trying set of games & circumstances. The Golden Eagle team players seemed "all-there" throughout the championship game & tournament. On more than one occasion coach Beauchamp could be seen with his arm around the players coaching baseball while many controversies swirled throughout the championship game. It was obvious Coach Gee, coach Blanton & coach Beauchamp prepared these boys to play championship baseball at a very high level. It was also obvious this is a focused group of baseball players.
Well Done Golden Eagle Mustang - On To The Next Round (Friday, 7:30PM in San Jose)!
Monday, July 16: HOT NEWS ITEM: Eli Mower threw a no-hit shutout against Orangevale in the semi-final championship game on Monday evening at the Mustang all-star tournament in Arcade. Golden Eagle beat up on O'vale 11-0 in the four inning mercy rule victory. GE will face Elk Grove who also won on a mercy rule victory over Natomas.
Saturday, July 14: HOT NEWS ITEM: The Mustang all-star team completed a rare triple play. Natomas put runners on 1st and 2nd with no outs Saturday. The next batter ripped a line shot to Brett Mack who catches it, touches first base and immediately fires to second base to beat the sliding runner for a clean triple play. Wow.
GOOD LUCK AT THE AREA ALL-STAR TOURNAMENT - GO GOLDEN EAGLE!!

2007 GEPB Mustang All-Star Team Makes Top Four In Regional Tournament

Golden Eagle Mustang Make Major Strides Completing Their 2007 Season (Click Title Above For Bracket)
The 2007 Mustang All-star team began the area championship in San Jose, CA playing a close, nail biter against one of the eventual finalists: Los Altos/ Mountain View #1. It was a defensive and pitching battle with Los Altos finally winning 3-1:
"GEPB Mustang's first Regional game was Friday, 7/20 at 7:30pm. They played a strong Los Altos / Mt View #1 team and lost 3-1. Each team had 3 hits (Philip & Bryce doubles & Brett a single) with Ian Mitterholzer walking and scoring our only run. Both teams had strong pitching (Eli Mower for 2 and Brett Mack for 3 innings). The difference probably was the number of times the ball was put into play, many more times for the home LA/MV team. We play again at 2:30pm today against LA/MV #2 (who also lost their first game but by 12-13 to the Pony state champions from Utah)."
Golden Eagle would now need to make its way through a tough loser's bracket. Golden Eagle then rallied for two straight wins making it all the way back to the final four teams before losing again to Monterey Green. Tara Hills was undefeated in the winner's bracket.
No Golden Eagle team has reached this far in an area Mustang all-star tournament. Previously, only one GE team had even made an area championship tournament, and it was most of these same kids two years ago for the Pinto all-stars in Rodeo.
One proud GE Mustang parent:
"We were so proud of them for their heart, determination, and working through tiredness (they played 6 straight hours of baseball through 2 games on Sunday in pretty warm weather). The second game was a 10-7 win over the #2 Los Altos / Mountain View team. Everyone got to play and contributed. The third game was a win over Brentwood again where everyone got to play. And the fourth game was an 8-6 loss against Monterey. This was one more game than they played 2 years ago in Rodeo and got them into the top 4 teams left in Regionals. The kids learned so much and improved so much over the past month. Kudos to the coachesÂ’ commitment and attention to the kids."
Well-said Karen.
Congratulations to all players, parents & coaches.
On to the 2008 Season!
