Congrats 12 and 14s for a great week of softball at the Summer Slam in Cordele on 17 May 2008. The 12s took 4th place and the 14s took 5th. Both teams played terrific ball all day against some tough competition. See each team's link below for details.

We are just past the halfway mark for the 2008 season with about four more tournaments to go before we all head to Savannah for the WFC World Series in July.

The 14U Ladies started the season off for the Georgia Sun organization on 1 March 2008 at the ISA Early Bird Classic. Check out some pics of the day in the slideshow below.

cake**Players!! Welcome to travel ball! This is a very competitive sport and requires more effort than just practicing for 3 hours once a week with your team. For us to improve as a team, we all have to work on our drills, fundamentals, and conditioning at home too. You should be throwing the ball, taking ground balls/pop ups, and working on your hitting at least three times a week.

May Birthdays - Ashley R (12U-1st), Morgan (12U-3rd) Alexis (12U-7th)

Original 12U Georgia Sun

Update 28 Oct 07

The 'original' 12U Georgia Sun competed in their final tournament of the season at Turner Lake on 27 Oct. Even though we made some mistakes we also made some brilliant plays and hit like champions. We missed Ivey and Taylor a bunch too!! The top defensive play was Jesse in centerfield running down the ball at the fence, throwing it to Kelsey as the cutoff, Kelsey turning and throwing a strike to Morgan at third who put the tag on the surprised runner. OOUUUUT!!!  It was textbook ball playing.

Our record for the day didn't show it but our bats were rockin' again. As a team we went 35 for 79 (.443 team average) with 22 runs scored, 5 doubles, and 2 triples.  Top hitters were Christi who went 7 for 8 (Amazing!!) with 2 triples and a double; Kelsey went 5 for 9 with 5 runs scored and a bunch of stolen bases; Alexis went 5 for 9 with 3 runs scored; Morgan went 4 for 9; and Ashley went 3 for 9 with 3 doubles.

The 'original' 12U Georgia Sun team emerged largely from the 2007 Warner Robins American Little League girls softball All-Stars. Following the All-Star season, Coach Blaine and Mark coined the name "Georgia Sun" and new unforms quickly followed. They played in five tournaments over the summer and early fall. The team split into a 12U and 14U for the 2008 season with about half the originals going to each.  Both teams held try-outs and picked up several very talented players from around the area. It was a great run for the original team and all are ready for a very competitive year. Thanks to all the players and parents for the time, energy, and sacrifice over the summer. We have a world class set of folks in the Sun organization.

THANKS A MILLION Coach Phillips and Lady Warriors!!!

We had a beautiful day on 12 Jan 08 and learned an incredible amount of Softball drills and pointers from Coach Phillips and his Lady Warriors softball team. We also were fortunate to locate a field that wasn't under water from the previous day’s rains - many thanks to Mr. Scott for that. Thanks also to Mr. Art for bringing his award winning Pig Jig Monster Cooker and taking care of the hotdogs and hamburgers for everyone. They were delicious. Thanks also to everyone that brought side dishes and helped cook, set up, and cleanup before we left.
