Welcome  to the home page of the Federal Way Girls Fastpitch Assoc. (FWGFA). 

FWGFA is governed by USSSA rules.  FWGFA is part of the Greater South King County Softball Association.  Together we support over 500 softball players.  Our games/practices are held in the Federal Way area.  Girls ages 6-14 are eligible to play.

*Teams can stay together from 8U-14U.
*Teams may enter the league as a complete team.
*Competitive & Recreational divisions at the 12U & 14U levels.
*Starting at 12U, we play by USSSA rules and have professional USSSA umpires.
*Games are held locally on Monday thru Thursday evenings.
*Teams play approximately 12 games during the season
*The season begins in mid-April and ends beginning of June with playoffs.
*Practices start in early March.

Here's a rundown what each age level is about:

8U:  For girls ages 6-8.  This is where it all starts.  The players learn the fundamentals of playing fastpitch softball.  Teams are built around friendships and schoolmates, and players are taught which how to run the bases, how to hit a ball and catching and throwing.  Emphasis is placed on having fun, sportsmanship and fundamentals.  During games, the coaches pitch the ball to their own batters and may use a tee after 5 pitches.  Games and practices are kept short and fun, and scores and standings are not kept.    

10U Rec:  For ages 8-10.   Players begin learning about the real game of girls' fast pitch softball.  Players will be the pitchers and there will be no walks.  The player will pitch until the ball is hit, the batter strikes out or there are 4 called balls.  Once the count reaches 4 balls, the batter's coach comes in to pitch.  The strike count remains and the coach is allowed a maximum of 3 pitches, unless the 3rd strike is tipped foul.   Balls and strikes are called on the coach's pitches.  On a 4-2 count, the coach may only get 1 pitch.  Scores are kept at this level.  There are youth umpires and playoffs.  Things start becoming competitive.   

12U/14U: For ages 10-14.   Players are now playing the full game of girls' fast pitch softball.   All aspects of fast pitch are taught and rules followed.   FWGFA follows the USSSA rules/regulations and professional USSSA umpires are used.
