The Quiet Time of the Little League Year
Now that the webmaster has ignored her duties for the past two months, it's time to update the site during our "quiet" or fall training season.
A couple of our leagues have experienced a nice increase in player numbers this fall season--almost what they were in Spring 2008! We hope this a good sign of things to come for the Spring 2009 season!
So what did the District accomplish in 2008? Here's the lowdown:
-
100% participation in the ASAP (Safety) program--that's two straight years.
-
Partnered with the Tampa Bay Rays
-
Our 1st Annual RAYS for 13 DAY with 1,500 District 13 members attending
-
Eliminated the hat collection from tournaments (District fundraiser)
-
Increased the leagues' player assessment fees by 50 cents per player to offset the no hat collections
-
Our 1st Annual All Star Home Run Derby Plus competition--it was a smashing success.
- New District 13 staff additions (always a welcome)
- Pinecrest Little League and Belmont Heights Little League celebrate 40 years!
- South Brandon Little League becomes a RAYS Foundation recipient--with the renovation of a Major field
- East Bay Senior Softball All Stars were the State Runners-up
- Bloomingdale Little League had a run on All Star softball winners: 9/10 - State Runners-up; 10/11 - State Runners-up; 11/12 - State Champs (only 1 game away from the LL World Series); Juniors - Co-State Champs and Regional Runners-up.
- South Brandon Little League 11/12 All Star Baseball were the State Runners-up.
