Anderson Bat National Classic
Anderson Bat Logo
The Anderson Bat National Classic tournament, hosted by Esperanza and El Dorado High Schools, begins on Monday, March 24. The tournament has one of the strongest fields in its history with six teams currently ranked in Baseball America's top 26 national rankings. Esperanza and El Dorado begin play Monday at Cal State Fullerton, with Esperanza taking on James River, VA, ranked sixth nationally, while El Dorado plays the #1 team in the nation Calvert Hall, MD.

The tournament festivities begin on Saturday, March 22 at El Dorado, with the Home Run Derby and BBQ.

A fun time was had by all who participated in the 2007 Esperanza Alumni Game. Coach Curran had a great turnout of former players who dusted off their gear to scrimmage this year's Aztecs. Some photos from the game, courtesy of Mr. Spinazze, are in the Photo Albums section.

Golf Classic Highlights

The 12th annual Golf Classic was held on January 29 and a great time was had by all who participated! A sold-out field of golfers enjoyed a wonderful day at Yorba Linda Country Club and the dinner/auction was a huge success thanks to the many sponsors and donors who helped support the event. Tom and Stephanie Lu and the Booster Board would like to thank everyone, especially the Esperanza families, who helped put together this tournament.

Parent Meeting This Week
Thanks to everyone for your attendance at the Parent Meeting this week. As you continue to read through all the information, please feel free to contact any of the Booster Board members with any questions you may have. And remember to mark your calendars for Field Day next Saturday, January 20.

Baseball Tryouts

Baseball tryouts at Esperanza High School will be held on the following dates:

1st Tryouts
   Wednesday, November 15th
   Thursday, November 16th
   Monday, November 20th
   Tuesday, November 21st
1st Selection
   Wednesday, November 22nd

2nd Tryouts
   Monday, November 27th
   Tuesday, November 28th
   Wednesday, November 29th
2nd Selection
   Thursday, November 30th

All players must be "cleared" athletically to tryout.
Tryout times will be approximately 3:00pm - 5:00pm.
Players will need bat, glove, cleats, and be dressed to play.



Thursday, November 2
Baseball Tryout Meeting
There will be a meeting on Tuesday, November 7 in the Teachers Lounge with all parents of boys trying out for the baseball team at Esperanza High School. The meeting will start at 7:00pm and will give you the information for tryout dates and procedures for picking the teams.

At least one parent from each family should attend this meeting.

Welcome Back Aztecs
The start of a new school year will bring high expectations as the Aztecs try to defend their 2006 Sunset League title. The much anticipated field work project is underway thanks to the efforts of last year's Aztec families and Booster Board. Click on the Photo Albums tab on the left for more pictures.

The Varsity's Season
The Varsity's Season came to a close on Friday as they lost to Lakewood 3-0. It was the first time all season the Aztecs were shut out. The players and coaches should be commended for an outstanding season.

The Aztecs will have their banquet on Tuesday, June 6th at 6:45 at Alta Vista country Club.

Aztecs Win Round Round Two!
The Varsity blew Tuesdays playoff game against Corona wide open in the first inning scoring seven runs. Matt Wolfrom scattered five hits and gave up two sun aided runs and Derek Hernandez pitched a scoreless seventh as the Aztecs won by a final of 10-2. P.J. Spinazze had two doubles and two RBI's while Francis Larson capped the scoring with a solo home run in the sixth. The Varsity will play Lakewood on Friday at Esperanza on Friday May 26th, 3:00p.m.

AZTECS WIN PLAYOFF GAME ONE BY SCORE OF 2-1
The Varsity started the playoffs in thrilling fashion as they defeated Arlington of Riverside.Michael Nesbitt led off the second with a hit, worked his way to third and came home on Jason Charron's long fly ball to right. In the top of the seventh Arlington scored with two outs to tie the game. The Aztecs came up in the bottom of the seventh and with two outs and no one on Jason Charron lined a hit to left field. Brett Mahoney was hit by a pitch and Austin Hunter walked. Niko Gallego then hit a 1-2 pitch up the middle bringing home pinch runner James Merglemeyer with the winning run. Ryan Ackland pitched all seven innings for his eleventh win. The Varsity will play Tuesday at home against Corona, a 2-1 winner over Damien (click on the headline above for brackets).

Phil Nevin's National Classic Tournament
The Varsity lost the championship game of the Phil Nevin National Classic 7-3 to De La Salle from Concord, California. The offense was led by Jordan Taylor, John Elko and Niko Gallego who each had two hits. Taylor scored twice and had one RBI. The other 2 RBI's belonged to Brandon Hines. Matt Wolfrom, Nick Bergman and Derek Hernandez pitched with Wolfrom picking up his first loss of the season. The Aztecs will return to league play next week at Edison on Wednesday as they begin the three most important weeks of the season.
