2008 Champions are Crowned The 2008 ECYB Championship games featured much of the same great play and exciting finishes as seen throughout the season. In Mustang, the Orioles squeezed by the Cubs by a single run, thanks to the O's fine relief pitching; at right is the strikeout pitch by the O's closer to close out the game. In Pinto ball, the Padres (shown below with their trophies) took the championship game at Tassajara. The Pirates capped off a stunning season with an 8-1 championship victory over the Reds to take the Bronco division title. And the Red Sox took the Pony division title with a one-run victory over the Mets; the contest was followed by a division wide barbecue, capped by a joint picture of players from all Pony teams, shown below. (You can click on the picture to download a full-sized version of it.) Congratulations to all the ECYB teams!

Memorial Day Tournaments Congratulations to ECYB's Memorial Day Tournament teams, who all represented ECYB admirably. The Pinto and Mustang teams (with one ECYB Mustanger shown at left ready to take off from first base) played well at the Fremont National Youth Baseball tournament. In Pittsburg, both ECYB Bronco teams made it into the final game, where the ECYB Warriors defeated the ECYB Sox; the two successful teams came together for the picture below with their trophies. (You can click on the picture to pull up a larger version of it.) The ECYB Pony squad played well, but came up a run short in the semifinal game to just miss competing for the championship.

ECYB Golf Tournament The ECYB Annual Golf Tournament was held on May 20th at Tilden Park Golf Course. This was the first year that we played a parent/child scramble format on the front nine. We had 18 parent-child teams, and kids under 15 years old could play from the gold tees. The kids had fun and got to play with adults on a real course in a real tournament, and in some cases they managed to outplay their parents...! Please plan on coming and joining us next year.
Thanks to several generous sponsors for donating awards and auction items: Dara O'Farell (2 two-night stays at his house in Truckee); Berkeley YMCA and Hilltop YMCA (donated memberships and a week at the Hilltop YMCA day camp); Sun Microsystems (several cases of Titleist golf balls); Tilden Golf Course (twosomes green fees and $20 range ball cards).

ECYB Goes to See the As Wonderful weather and a wonderful result -- a 7 to 1 victory by the Oakland A's over the visiting Kansas City Royals -- greeted ECYB players and families at our annual visit to see the big leaguers and raise money for ECYB. At left, ECYB players are greeted on the field by A's pitcher Chad Gaudin.

2008 Registration Registration is now closed for the 2008 El Cerrito Youth Baseball League.
An important note: ECYB continues to experience a shortage of volunteers to perform necessary tasks. To ensure the success of the league we need more parents to volunteer their time. To encourage your participation and to cover the costs of paying for services that should be performed by volunteers we have taken two actions:
We have raised the parent participation fee to $150
We will be cashing your $150 parent participation fee check on January 31, 2008, unless you have volunteered and been selected by the Board to perform certain league-level jobs noted on the volunteer form.
ECYB will continue to refund parent participation fees after the season ends to all families who have met the volunteer requirement of performing 10 hours of work, at least 5 of which must be met by performing league-level jobs. There will be many opportunities pre-season, as well as during the season, to participate in activities which will meet the volunteer requirement. Information on these activities will be communicated via email and posted to the ECYB website.
|

Remember, parents are responsible for working with their team business managers to get in the requisite team volunteer hours; fulfillment of the league requirement is the responsibility of each family. Over the course of the season, there will be ample opportunity to volunteer at the league level. Check back frequently to see new job postings. If you have any questions or volunteer project suggestions, please email Volunteer Coordinator Shannon Dowling at
