Salem Knocks out Raiders 8-7
The Raiders were knocked out of the playoffs by Salem on Friday night 8-7. We held a 7-1 advantage early on but could not maintain it. Salem hits a two out two strike 3 run home run in the 7th to break all our hearts and end our season. Great job by the kids and you guys had a great seaon, giving all of us some wonderful memories for years to come. Good luck to all the seniors as they played their last game in a Raider uniform. We will miss each and every one of you.

RAIDERS SWEEP FIRST ROUND GAMES...ON TO ROUND TWO!
broom

Friday night the Raiders took two from Ridgeland behind great pitching and great hitting. Zach Wheeler shut the door on the Panthers in game 1 with a 4 inning perfect game, striking out 11 of the 12 batters he faced. The offense did the rest, piling up 15 runs on 11 hits. Andy Almonte went 3 for 3 with a home run, Matt Aultman went 3 for 4 with 2 RBI's. Eric Gaylord had 2 hits and 3 RBI's, Stuart Young a triple and an RBI, Adam Brazenas a hit and an RBI, and Zach Gonosz also had a triple and an RBI. A great effort in Game 1.

In game 2, with Adam Hall on the hill to start, we piled up 4 in the second and never looked back. Another game with lots of hits (13) too. Adam Brazenas went 3 for 3 with an RBI and 3 runs scored. Eric Gaylord continued his torrid pace with 2 more hits and 2 RBI's, Matt Aultman had a triple, Trent Glover a double and a single, Andy Almonte had a double, Stuart Young a triple and 2 RBI's, Justin Griswell a single, Zach Gonosz a single and an RBI, and Jacob Forrest had a hit too. On the hill, Adam Hall went 5 innings for the win, allowing just 4 singles and 1 earned run.

The fans were great (albeit a bit rowdy), their coach got tossed in game 2, and we had a great turnout! Pretty much a little of everything last night. Next up is Salem at home on Wednesday. They will be a much more formidable foe. Lets keep the place rockin! Show up and cheer for the good guys. Man I felt sorry for their catcher though!

Cherokee and Alexander were eliminated last night and Sequoyah is playing their rubber game today. Let's pull for that other region 5 team, eh? See you soon!

Game 3 (if necessary) will be played at 1:30PM on Saturday. Make sure you get there early to get a seat as we will have a packed house. Wheels and Adam Hall will be pitching the first 2 games and they should be real exciting games. Let's pull for the good guys to end the first round on Friday night with 2 big victories. Right now they are calling for rain on Friday, so stay tuned here and we will have all the updates on the weather and/or alternate plans! See you Friday!

THANKS LISA AND BRIDGET AND EVERYONE ELSE INVOLVED IN SENIOR NIGHT!!
thanks

We want to give a special thanks to Lisa Rednour for all she has done for the team this year, working concessions, setting up team pre game meal schedules, fixing things when they go wrong, planning a wonderful senior night celebration, and everything else she does for the program. THANKS LISA! We would also like to thank Bridget Carruth for the wonderful pictures and posters she helped create for the seniors. They are awesome and we know they took a lot of time and effort to do. THANKS BRIDGET!

And lastly to everyone else, mainly the JV parents for working so hard and long on senior night...manning the concessions, serving and preparing the food, cleanup and setup. Y'all did such a great job. We all appreciate it so much. THANKS EVERYONE!!!

#1 Ranked Raiders Take Out South Paulding on Senior Night 11-1
number one
The Raiders entered their game last night against cross town rivals South Paulding as the #1 ranked team in the state. A nice end to the regular season on senior night, the coaches poll had just been released earlier in the day and the Raiders were at the top. On a beautiful evening at East Paulding, we had a nice pre-game ceremony introducing our 11 graduating seniors and their parents. After a little introduction for each player, each one was presented (by the junior players) with a beautiful poster collage with pictures of themselves. The posters were created and framed by Ms Carruth. After the opening ceremony, we proceeded to crush SP 11-1, with the seniors leading the way. Adam Hall pitched 3 innings and got the win. Austin Meek pitched the last inning. Will Brooks had a 2 RBI single, Erick Gaylord hit a homer and had 5 RBI's. Adam Brazenas had 2 hits and two runners thrown out stealing. Rudy Rodriguez, and Matt Aultman each had a hit. Justin Griswell, Chris Wilson, Geraldo Mancilla, and Jake Field all played well. Each player also had an "embarassing" moment revealed to the masses during the game. Then after the game, the players doused coach Boyd with a bucket of ice cold water. Great to see everyone having so much fun. We had a packed house for the game, then a team steak dinner afterwards. All in all it was a great and fun night for all, capped off by a win, a region championship, and a state #1 ranking! This is the first time ever that an East Paulding baseball team has been ranked atop the heap! Congrats to everyone. Now it's on to the playoffs. Details will be forthcoming.

Raiders win Second Region Championship!
ship
Wheeler on the Hill in the 1st inning
We beat Sequoyah 7-3 to win our second consecutive region championship. With a record of 20-1, we have clinched first place! We drew first blood as we scored 2 in the first inning on just 1 hit. An RBI single by Rudy Rodriguez plated the first run and a wild pitch got the second run across.  We opened the lead to 4-0 in the 3rd inning on another hit by Rudy, driving in 2 more. In the 4th, with Wheeler cruising on the hill, we widened the lead to 5-0 on a single by Steven Nix and an RBI double by Geraldo Mancilla. They scored 2 in the bottom of the 4th or 5th (can't exactly remember..mad cow and all that) to make it 5-2, then added another in the next inning to make it 5-3. Then, with a runner at second and two out, they hit a tough ball down the first base line that looked like a double, but Rudy snared it and beat the runner to first to end the inning and the threat. Erick Gaylord hit a big insurance two run homer in the 7th to make it 7-3 and it looked good for us. But then in the bottom of the 7th, they loaded the bases with no outs. The next batter hit a grounder to third that was thrown wildly to home. Somehow, catcher Adam Brazenas dove, stretched, and picked the ball out of the dirt to get the out and preserve the momentum. Adam Hall, who had come on in relief in the 6th, then proceeded to strike out the next two batters and the threat and the game was finally over. Region champs! Rudy 2 hits 3RBI, Gaylord 1HR 2RBI, Mancilla 1 2B 1 RBI, Nix 1 hit, Young 1 hit, Almonte 1 hit. Wheeler WP 5IP 9K's 0ER, Hall 2IP, 0ER, 3K's, Save.

Showdown #2... EP V Sequoyah on Monday Night For All The Marbles
marbles
The biggest game of the year will be played at Sequoyah on Monday night. They have 2 losses and we have 1. If we win, we clinch the region championship and the #1 seed from our region for the playoffs. If we lose, we are not out of it, but that hopefully won't happen so we won't discuss the ramifications of if.... Zach Wheeler will be on the hill for us and probably Kennesaw State signee Parker Sutton for them. There will be some college coaches and some pro scouts there as well. Word is the head coaches from Truett-McConnel college and Head coach Dan Giordano from Oglethorpe University will be there along with a few others, possibly coach Sansing from Kennesaw State too. As is usually the case when Wheels pitches, a few pro scouts are bound to be there as well. It will be a packed house so get there early. I know a great back way there from Bentwater so if anyone wants to follow just give me a hollar and we can caravan at about 4:30-4:45. Man, I just can't wait!

Raiders Beat Chapel Hill 8-4
sweet
The Raiders again had to come from behind, this time against Chapel Hill. We took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first on an Erick Gaylord RBI single, but they came right back with a 2 spot in the bottom of the first. We came back and added 2 more in the 3rd, then kept adding one or two each inning til the lead was 8-3. They scored 1 in the 7th to close to 8-4 but that was it. The bats seem to be coming back as we had 11 hits. Almonte 3, Young 2, Gaylord 2, Rodriguez 2, Brazenas 1, Mancilla 1. Adam Hall, the country boy went all 7 innings for the win. He ended the week with 12 innings pitched, 2 wins and 1 save. And his arm still worked well enough to play some geetar over the weekend!

Raiders get come from behind win over Alexander 7-4

A huge win for the Raiders. Early in the game, we fell behind 4-0. In the process we kept leaving men on base as we just couldn't seem to get a hit when we needed it. In the 5th, still down 4-0, we finally pushed one across on a Zach Gonosz sac fly to make it 4-1. With coach Reed helping get the fans up and loud, we started off the 6th with a Rudy Rodriguez pinch single. Andy Almonte followed that up with an opposite field double, putting runners on 2nd and 3rd with no outs. A base hit to right center by Stuart Young brought home 2 and it was suddenly 4-3. Our fans and bench were going wild. Matt Aultman then hit a line drive to right that their fielder muffed for a 2 base error, putting the tying and lead runs at 2nd and 3rd. After an out, they intentionally walked Adam Brazenas to load the bases, hoping for the double play ball by Jacob Forrest. But Jacob nailed the 2nd pitch over the left field wall for a grand slam, giving us a 7-4 lead that we wouldn't relinquish. Zach Wheeler pitched 6 innings with 14K's and no earned runs. Adam Hall closed the game by pitching the 7th inning. A great win by the Raiders and a huge comeback showed we just might have what it takes. A big thanks to Coach Reed and our fans for being so loud and positive. It definitely helped inspire the team.

Raiders Beat Osborne to Remain in 1st Place
We beat Osborne last night 11-2 to keep our 1 game lead over AHS and SHS. With games against both teams on the horizon, this was an impotanat win. Adam Hall gets the W for us. Next up is Alexander on Weds night. They are the only team to beat us in region play this year. A huge game. Go Raiders.

Thursday, April 17
15-0 Over Douglas County
We whupped a very weak DC team 15-0. They looked (and played) like they have already given up on the season. Lots of hits and errors too. Wheeler-WP. Cole 2 IP, Wilson 1 IP.

Thursday, April 17
We Beat Lithia 17-7 Tonight, Coming from Behind!
ball
The game was alot more interesting than the score indicates. We first take a 3-0 lead in the first, leaving the bases loaded. Then, they come back with a 3 run bomb by their pitcher in the second to tie it. In the top of the third, they score 2 more to go ahead 5-3. We come back to blow the game open in the bottom of the 3rd. We had a ton of errors and they made a few as well. We had a hilarious moment when Justin Griswell almost caught up to Steven Nix from first base, both scoring on a long hit. Gris was about 10 feet behind Steven as they crossed home plate one after another...Steven huffing and puffing the whole way. Was a "Major League"/ "Little Big League" moment if you will. Bobby Rednour gets the win. Adam Brazenas hit a towering 2 run homer in the 3rd to put us up 6-5. Rudy Rodriguez had 2 hits and 4 RBI's. Also getting 2 hits were Andy Almonte and Matt Aultman (3 RBIs) as Erick Gaylord, Justin Griswell, Zach Gonosz, and Steven Nix also collected hits.

Monday, April 14
Raiders Take Woodland 7-1
We beat Woodland behind Adam Hall 7-1. Eric Gaylord remained red hot as he had 3 RBI's and at least 2 hits. Jacob Forrest had 2 hits as did Andy Almonte. Also getting hits were Stuart Young, Rudy Rodriguez, Justin Griswell and Adam Brazenas. Will Brooks pitched the final 2 (scoreless) innings.

Saturday, April 12
Raiders Squeak By Hillgrove 2-1
In a classic pitcher's duel, Zach Wheeler outlasts Hillgrove 2-1. A tough game and our only runs came on a 2 run dinger by Matt Aultman in the 4th inning. That was it! Great pitching performance again by Wheeler and by their starter, Halbohn. Adam Hall pitched the 7th inning for the save.

His parents, Jeff and Lisa are very proud of him.  Go get em Adam!  Click on the underlined caption for the Oglethorpe writeup on Adam.

Adam's commitment makes a total of 3 Raiders (so far) who will be playing at the next level in 09!

MATT AULTMAN SIGNS WITH BLUE RIDGE CC
signing
Matt Aultman, senior left fielder for the Raiders has signed on to play college baseball at Blue Ridge Community College in Flat Rock, North Carolina next season.  Matt is an all around great player who can hit, run, and field. Blue Ridge is very fortunate to get such an outstanding young man. Matt's parents, Jeff and Amanda are very proud of him as are the rest of us in Raiderland. Good luck next year Matt!

Monday, April 7
ERICK GAYLORD SIGNS WITH DARTON COLLEGE
john hancock
Second baseman Erick Gaylord has just recently signed a scholarship with Darton College in Albany Georgia. Erick has been a mainstay at 2B for the Raiders since he showed up in Dallas his sophmore season. A 3 year varsity starter, Erick will be continuing his baseball career next year at Darton. They are lucky to get him. Erick's parents Anna and Eric Gaylord are very proud of him. So are we. Go E!

Raiders Drop a Deuce in Chattanooga
deuce
We got to Chattanooga and in the soggy weather we lose 2 tough games. Against the Baylor school in game one, we had some bus trouble getting up there to start with which caused our breakfast plans to run amuck, so we have to play the game with a belly full of sliders. LITERALLY. Didn't get to eat til just before the game started and we had to have Krystals less than an hour before game time. We came out greasy sluggish and just couldn't get over the hump losing to a very good team 5-2. We jumped on the bus after the game and headed to McCallie HS, another private school. Man these schools were nice too. Like Lovie and Thurston nice! Had this one in our back pockets, up 4-0, then 4-3 going into the 7th. They then scored two unearned in the bottom of the 7th to win 5-4. I think we may have just simply run out of gas by the time that 7th inning ended. I believe 4 of their 5 runs were unearned too. Just wasn't our day. To Thurston, Lovie, and the rest of the debutante crowd..see ya again sometime. In the meantime, I hope everyone has a great spring break and we will see you on Saturday the 12th at 1PM for our game with Hillgrove...a game that actually counts! Peace y'all!

Wednesday, April 2
Raiders Take Pebblebrook in 3, 15-0
Pretty short game. Steven Nix had 2 home runs and Zach Gonosz had 1. Matt Cole gets the win.

Wednesday, April 2
Raiders Spank South 15-1
slide
We went to South Paulding on Tuesday night and gave them a good ole fashioned spanking! 15 runs and 16 hits, including a 9 spot in the top of the first! Andy Almonte went 4 for 4 and Bobby Rednour picked up his 4th win without a loss. The game was pretty much over after the 1st inning. Coach got just about everyone an at bat...including Wheels..who was more surprised than anyone when he got summoned to pinch hit. Next up is Pebblebrook on Weds.

Wednesday, April 2
JV ON A ROLL!!!
roll
Folks, our JV squad is now 10-0 on the season...and they were 18-0 last season, making their win streak an incredible 28 without a loss through last season! Coach Roberts and his squad have been fantastic and we are all very proud of them. Keep up the good work!

Monday, March 31
Warriors Came Out to Plaayaay..But Raiders Take Em 3-1
small warr
The Cherokee Warriors did come out to play, but so did we as we nip them 3-1 in a tough pitcher's duel. Seven hits total for both squads but we got 6 of em. Wheeler again was masterful, limiting the street fighters to just 1 infield single in 6 strong innings. The Wheelman also struck out 12 of those bad boys along the way. Adam "curveball" Hall pitched the 7th to pick up the save. Their guy dueled right along with Wheels, allowing us just the 6 hits while pitching a complete game. We got 2 in the third on a base hit by Adam Brazenas, and scored another in the 5th on a hit by Andy Almonte. That was it! Eric "Darton" Gaylord had 2 hits while Justin "the Griz" Grizwell copped a hit as did Trent "G" Lover. Next up are the boys from South Paulding on April Fool's day as we continue our busy week.

Wednesday, March 26
Raiders Take Sequoyah 6-1
showdown

The showdown didn't quite happen on the mound as Sequoyah held their Ace for Friday night's game against Alexander. (GO SEQUOYAH!!!) But we showed up with arm and bats and took it to them 6-1 behind a masterful performance by Zach Wheeler. He threw a complete game 3 hitter, 0ER, and had 13 K's. The offense came to life with 11 hits, Eric Gaylord leading the way with 3 and an RBI.  Stuart Young also had a big double driving in 2 runs, and Geraldo Mancilla had a key 2 run double in the second, breaking a 1-1 tie. Big win puts us back in the hunt for the region championship. Lots more games to play, but for now, this showdown goes to the good guys!

Monday, March 24
BACK ON TRACK
track
The Raiders get back to their winning ways with a hard fought 4-1 victory over Chapel Hill. The Hillsters took a 1-0 lead in the first and held it til the 4th when consecutive hits by Rodriguez and Mancilla (RBI) helped get a couple of runs across and give us the lead. Andy Almonte had 2 hits and 2 RBI's and Trent Glover also had an infield single and an RBI for the good guys. Great defensive plays by Mancilla, Gaylord, and Almonte helped to keep the Chapsters off the bases. 5 hits were enough to do it. WP was Adam Hall as he went 6 grueling innings giving up just the 1 run. Super Soph Bobby Rednour pitched the 7th for his first save to along with his 3 wins on the year. Next up is Sequoyah.

Friday, March 21
OUCH!!! Win Streak is Broken by Alexander
ouch

AHS took it to us tonight 4-1. Smith goes the route for the complete game 4 hitter. That leaves us at 7-1 in Region play with Chapel Hill, Sequoyah, and S Paulding next week. It's gettin interesting now! LP-Wheeler. Forrest 2 hits.

Thursday, March 20
Raiders Go To 9-0 with Win over Osborne
slide
The Raiders won another easy one 12-2 over Osborne on Thursday behind Bobby Rednour (3-0). Justin Grizwell had 3 hits and 4 RBI and Stuart Young had 2 hits and 3 RBI. Next up is Alexander on Friday as both teams enter the game 7-0 in region play. The game is at Alexander.

Tuesday, March 18
Holy Cow!!!! Raiders Hold on To Beat Lithia 12-10
Harry
It started out quickly and in our favor. Behind Adam Hall and some hot bats we held a 12-2 lead. But that quickly evaporated as Lithia put up 5, then hit a 3 run shot to pull to 12-10. Zack Wheeler came in to shut the door and we hang on to the 12-10 win. Holy cow!

Monday, March 17
Raiders go to 7-0 with 12-2 win over Douglas County
We beat Douglas County in 6 tonight behind 3 hits by Stuart Young. Matt Cole starts and picks up the win. Bobby Rednour gets his first varsity at bat and hits a 2 run dinger. Jordan Norment also got his first varsity hit tonight. Justin Grizwell had 2 hits as well. Lithia Springs up for tomorrow night.

Friday, March 14
Game Tonight Against Lithia Cancelled/Rescheduled
rain
The game at Lithia tonight has been cancelled. It will be made up on Tuesday of next week. We'll be busy! Have a great weekend y'all!

Thursday, March 13
Raiders Run Streak to 6 with 17-2 Win Over Woodland
In another sleeper, the Raiders trounced the error prone Woodland Wildcats 17-2 in 3 innings on Wednesday night. Scoring 14 in the first and 3 in the second, we didn't even bat a third time. Again, there were a few hits (Gonosz 2, Glover 2) but for the most part, the poor Wildcats just had a rough night fielding the ball. Bobby Rednour picked up his second W on the season and Chris Wilson pitched the third for his first work of the year. Next up is Lithia Springs on Friday.

Monday, March 10
Raiders go to 5-0 with win over Hillgrove
The Raiders beat Hillgrove tonight behind another strong pitching performance by Zack Wheeler.  Adam Hall pitched 2 innings and Austin Meek finished up, pitching the 7th. The Raiders are now 3-0 in region play.

Thursday, March 6
Raiders Win Sleeper Over Pebblebrook 13-1
In a game marred by many walks, we beat Pebblebrook in 5 by the count of 13-1. Bobby Rednour picks up his first varsity win, going 3 innings and giving up just the 1 run. A few hits along the way, but mostly it was a tough night for the P'brook pitchers as they just couldn't find the plate. The win puts us at 4-0 over all and 2-0 in region. We'll pick it back up on Monday night when we travel to Hillgrove for our 3rd region game.

Wednesday, March 5
Raiders Beat Cherokee in 8 on "Junior" night!
A tough game tonight as the youngsters really took charge. Junior Zack Wheeler threw a no hitter thru 5 and left with the game tied at 0. It stayed that way til the 8th when we loaded the bases with 2 out and junior pinch hitter Stewart Young came up with a huge single and game winning RBI, making it 1-0, and all we would need. Junior Jacob Forrest was next and he gave us 3 more insurance runs with a bases clearing double, making the final score 4-0. Senior Adam Hall pitched the final 3 innings for the win. Junior Trent Glover had 2 hits in the game.

Tuesday, March 4
Raiders Win Close One With Hiram 3-2
The Raiders beat Hiram in a close game Monday night 3-2. The Raiders held a 2-0 lead through 4, but Hiram cam back with 2 in the bottom of the 5th to tie it up. A clutch RBI single by Geraldo Mancilla in the 6th put the Raiders on top to stay. Matt Cole pitched the final 3 innings to pick up the win for the 2-0 Raiders.

Wednesday, January 30
RAIDERS WALK THE LINE WITH NEW PITCHING COACH JOHNNY CASH
Johnny
The coaching staff has been given a nice boost this year with the addition of pitching guru Johnny Cash. Coach Cash has spent the past few seasons at cross town rival Paulding County HS, but he is with us now. We are very fortunate to have him! Look for him to add knowledge and stability to our pitching staff. Back again this year are head coach Tony Boyd and assistant coach, going on 3 years now at EP,  Mike Sonnichsen.  Let's go get em!
