2008 Opening Day Ceremony

National Major League Player Representative Throws Out First Pitch

PLAY BALL!

The 2008 East Fishkill Baseball Season has officially arrived. On a beautiful Saturday morning a throng of smiling faces proudly wearing their team colors marched through the streets of Hopewell Junction to the East Fishkill Recreation Fields to kick off the 2008 Spring Season. The long parade of players, coaches, and parents consisted of the East Fishkill Boys Baseball League, from teeball to the senior league, and the East Fishkill Girls Softball League. The baseball gods blessed us with splendid weather as the parade made its way to the Recreation Fields. Once at the field, teams lined up around the rim of the infield for the Opening Day Ceremonies. A rainbow of ball players in reds, blues, greens, golds, purples, and orange against the beautifully manicured field was a sight to see. Singing group the Evergreen Chorus of Sweet Adeline's International started the ceremony with the singing of God Bless America, followed by other notable baseball songs. A moment of silence was given for the passing of longtime sponsor Dominick Cannizzaro, owner of Hopewell Auto Parts. Players from each division were picked to throw out the first pitches, which signaled the official opening of the 2008 Season. But the fun was not over yet. Radio station K104.7 was on the field to provide music for eager baseball players willing to show off their dancing skills. Players of all sizes danced their way through the infield, some wiggling on the ground, some actually dancing, but all having fun as they vied for a chance to win K104.7 T-shirts! Soon after, a raffle was drawn for supporters of the East Fishkill Baseball Association, and the ceremonies came to a close. And just a half hour later the Senior League's MacDonald & Sons A's took on the Hopewell Auto Parts Royals on that very same field. The 2008 East Fishkill Baseball season has truly begun.
