2008 Eastern Eagles

 2008 Eastern Eagles (33-6)

28th District Champions

Eastern Eagles Baseball Information

Indoor Facility Information

Parents can get with booster club president Tim Cornett at 550-0253 for more information on the indoor facility proposal.  We are still trying to see if we have enough interest to move forward and will decide what to do by next Friday, September 12.  Get with Tim for questions or for commitments.

Pitching Camp

Larry Owens, Jeffersonville native and current Chicago White Sox Minor League Pitching Coach will conduct a pitching camp on Saturday, September 6 in Jeffersonville.  Cost is $60 per player for ages 13 and up and it's from 12:00-3:00 at the Jeff/GRC Parks (Big field).  Call Larry at 502-558-9703 or e-mail at sdlefty20@yahoo.com to register or for information.

Middletown Festival

The baseball team will walk in the Middletown Festival Saturday morning, September 13 as players will meet at Eastern.  Time TBA.  Both varsity teams will be able to walk as one is off that day and the other doesn't play until 2:00.  The younger JV fall team won't be able to since they have a game that conflicts with the time.

Fall Weights/Conditioning

Eastern will start their fall weights/conditioning program the end of October.  All participants must have a current physical on file in order to participate.  8th graders wanting to participate must live in Eastern's district to participate.  Players should get their physical prior to starting and have all forms filled out thoroughly and notarized and turned in to Coach Morris before mid-October.

KHSAA physical forms along with the Jefferson County permission form can be found in the handouts section on the website.  Players should turn in all five pages

Varsity

Eastern will participate in the prestigious 2009 Panama City National Invitational Tournament in Panama City, Florida over spring break from March 30-April 3.  We will play 5-6 varsity games over spring break in addition to about 3 JV games.

All seniors plus selected underclassmen will make the trip and we will take around 20 players.  We will have a player/parent meeting later in the fall for those going to discuss all information and plans.

We will stay at the Edgewater in Panama City and information will be posted and handed out when the tournament director works out the details with the Edgewater sometime in September.  The trip will be in about the same price range as previous Florida trips and we will take up players money in increments starting in October.

We will leave around midnight on Friday night, March 27 and return Saturday morning, April 4.   All players will ride the chartered bus down and back and players will stay in rooms with each other.

 JV/Freshmen

Those players staying back during spring break will play in the PRP JV and Freshman spring break tournament, which each team will play four games.  It starts on Monday, March 30 and goes through Saturday, April 4.

*Congratulations to David Slovak for signing a free agent contract with the Washington Nationals.  David graduated from Eastern in 2004 and just finished his college career at the University of Delaware.  He still holds the all time state record for lowest ERA in a career.  Here's a link to the article:  http://www.udel.edu/sportsinfo/baseball/base08-slovakpro.html

Eastern Baseball Records & History

**The records and history for Eastern baseball have now been updated through the 2008 season and are posted under the handouts section.**

2008 Eastern Eagles (33 wins -6 losses)

The 2008 Eastern Eagles baseball team had another stellar season and finished with 33 wins, which marked their fourth consecutive 30 win season.  Eastern finished the year with a #5 state ranking and were ranked in the top 10 all season long in one of the toughest regions in the state and again played a very tough schedule.  The Eagles twice had a 10 game winning streak during the season and won the 28th District Championship for the third time in the past four years.

The Eagles are now averaging 30 wins per season over the past seven years under Head Coach John Morris and have won 210 games during that span.  Coach Morris now has a .781 winning pct. with a career record of 210-59 in seven years.

Eastern beat five top 10 teams during the season, including #1 ranked PRP on their home field 7-4 during the last week of the season.  The Eagles also beat #4 Lexington Catholic 8-1, #5 Henry Clay 8-2, #7 Dunbar 13-1 and #7 Male 8-3.  In the 28th District Championship game, Eastern beat Christian Academy 6-2 to claim the title.

To start the 2008 season, Eastern won their first 10 games against some quality competition including Bullitt East, Woodford County, Ryle, Seneca, Reynoldsburg, OH and Crestview, FL (Top 10 – 5A in Florida) before dropping a 4-3 extra inning heartbreaker to #7 pre-season nationally ranked and 6A Georgia state champion Walton 4-3.

After winning the 28th District Championship over Christian Academy (eventual regional champions), the Eagles lost a 1-0 last inning heartbreaker to #3 ranked St. X in the regional semi-finals.
