Jimmy Ryder advances to Region 5 Quarterfinal Round.
Jimmy Ryder is the lone East Brunswick wrestler still alive in the Region 5 Tournament. Jimmy recorded a fall against his preliminary round opponant to advance to Fridays quarterfinals. The other three bears still wrestling Tuesday were unable to advance despite some strong efforts against very good wrestlers. At 112 Matt Paribello lost by tech fall. The loss put and end to Matt's season, but the trip to the Region Tournament should give Matt a good idea of what he wants to work for next year. At 130 Matt Ackerman had his opponant switched to Pete Butitta of J.F. Kennedy. Matt wrestled hard and found himself down 4-2 with about thirty seconds to go. A desperate attempt to score the takedown left Matt in deep with the leg and open to a spladle....resulting in a loss by fall at 5:59. At 160 Jordan Braun also wrestled real well. Jordan fell behind 6-0 early in the match, but then came on strong to score four points. The match went back and forth for a while with Jordan being real close to scoring several times, but unable to secure any more points ending at 6-4. The losses for Matt and Jordan end their high school wrestling seasons. Jordan finnished the season with an outstanding 21-9 record, a first place finnish at the Bear Invitational and a second place finnish in the District 20 Tournament. Matt ends his career as a four time varsity letter winner, three time District 20 placewinner and a 62-36 career record which places him at number 23 on the East Brunswick 50 win club. Congratulations to Jordan and Matt on outstanding wrestling careers and good luck in the future.
On a brighter note, Jimmy dominated his match winning by fall and moving on in the tournament. The win was the 50th of Jimmy's career and places him into the East Brunswick 50 Win club. Congratulations to Jimmy on his 50th win and advancement to Friday nights quarterfinal round. We will all be pulling for you!!!

East Brunswick 59, South River 18.
For some reason it just doesn't matter, even when the South River Rams are having a down year beating them is FUN. The East Brunswick Bears did just that in a 59 - 18 stomping of the team from the other side of route 18. To make the night even better for the Bears, it was senior night and the East Brunswick seniors lead the way. The match started off at 285 with a pin followed by another pin at 103. The Rams fans were having flashbacks to the good old days when they enjoyed a few stompings of their own against the Bears. At 112Matt Paribello brought them back to reality with a fall and Brandt Shine tied the score up with a forfiet at 119. Ryan Marosy had the tough task of wrestling South Rivers best wrestler, Adam Mongelli who won the Rams last bout of the evening. The Bears swept from there with Nick Paribello, Matt Ackerman and Andrew Schittone all winning with first period falls. Jordan Braun added a tech fall. Kenney Charleston and Jimmy Ryder won decisions, and Brett Kamin, Rimoun Hanna and Matt Scrivanich each received a forfiet. Congratulations to Andrew Schittone and Matt Scrivanich who both recorded their first Varsity wins. The added bonus points helped the Barrons close the score to 25-20, but that would be as close as it would get.
