Takedown Principles

 

ÒGood ideasÓ for takedowns (spec. leg attacks)

Leg drive is the most important factor for takedown success (You take guys down with your legsÉ.not your arms!.....You can ALWAYS out pursue opponentÕs sprawl!Ó

Commit to the finishÉ.not just to the leg.

Always stay in great position (stay ÒloadedÓ).

If you are open you must have great motion

Move forwardÉ.close the gapÉ.back him up.

     Eliminates opponentÕs sprawl

     Creates openings (ÒsetupsÓ)

     Takes opponent out of Òcomfort zoneÓ

     More difficult for opponent to attack

     Makes you look ÒgoodÓ & him look ÒbadÓ

Keep active hands and feet

You must get past your opponentÕs hands to score

Beat his head down every chance you get (never hold it) but donÕt sacrifice position

Attack at or below his knees (never above)

Pressure DOWN on his legs

ItÕs not ALWAYS about scoring

 

Counter Attacks Principles

 

Do not use the term Òdefense.Ó

Mindset (think): ÒIf he shootsÉÉI score!ÓÉ.ORÉÉ

ÒI score EVERYTIME he shoots!Ó

If you donÕt let him score, youÕre always in the match

Always stay in great position

Move forwardÉÉclose the gapÉÉback him up.

DonÕt let him past your hands

Let no one touch your legs (practice or match).

Sprawl is the last line of defense.

Beat his head down constantly (donÕt hold it)É.put his hands on matÉ..donÕt sacrifice position.

Keep your feet moving when he attacks (donÕt plant your feet

Keep short arms (no undercooks)
