"DIAMOND LEAGUE" HIGH SCHOOL SUMMER BASEBALL
CONGRATULATIONS TO DIAMOND LEAGUE TEAMS FOR ANOTHER FINE SHOWING IN THE STATE CHAMPIONSHIPS!! 6-A STATE CHAMPS "UNION REDSKINS" and RUNNER-UP "OWASSO RAMS". 5-A RUNNER-UP "BISHOP KELLEY COMETS".
Diamond League is an organization of Tulsa area high schools who grouped together in 2003 to form a small but high quality and competitive summer program. Our league play is set up to encourage young player developement and to showcase unsigned seniors in a competitive setting. The addition of wood bats in 2004 really made the league more competitive as most games stayed close regardless of the teams spring classification. Schools that have 2 or more league teams will have the option of moving players from one team to the other as they see fit, though "seniors" can only play on the varsity teams.
While winning is usually the main priority, teams in Diamond League have the flexability and are encouraged to develope future players, against quality competition, for future spring championship play without the added pressure of chasing a summer championship. The individual team success of league teams, in various classifications and regardless of the final W-L-T record, seem to prove this is formula that works. Winning, in this summer league, really does take care of itself- for the individual player and team.
Again this year we will have two divisions of play, Varsity and Junior Varsity. Teams will play league games at 4 of the nicest high school parks in the state, Owasso, Union, Broken Arrow and Jenks. Most of the freshmen teams will play at O'Brien park. Each division will have 10 teams and play a 20 game schedule.
Two major changes to the 2004 season was the the switch to *WOOD BATS* and use league play W-L-T record to determine league championships. Diamond League will again be nationally sanctioned with American Amature Baseball Congress (AABC). Teams will be able to pursue state and national championships with this organization as well as others, N.B.C. - USSSA, etc. if they elect to do so. League play is expected to start around JUNE 1ST and wrap up by July 16th.
With the league set up we have and the quality of teams entered we again expect to see Diamond League teams do well in 2005 at the state and national levels, both in '05 summer and spring seasons. As you can see below Diamond League teams also did very well in 2003 and 2004. Diamond League is also proud to have a very large number (50 +) of its seniors sign and go on to play college ball.
